National Campaign Daily Intention
Let us keep our eyes fixed on the New Jerusalem, where death will be no more.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” —Revelation 21:4-5 Every activity we undertake in defense of the sanctity of life is prophetic, in as‐much as it points to the day when “death will be no more.” Every victory we have when an act of abortion is prevented is prophetic of that day when death itself will be definitively conquered. Every triumph of grace in this world, whereby someone is brought to see the value of life and given the strength to welcome it, is a breaking into our history of that definitive future in which the old order of things will have passed, and all things will be made new. As pro‐life warriors, we must keep our eyes fixed on heaven, and our hearts secure in the hope that the day is coming when all evil will be conquered. It is the future that shapes the present; it is victory that informs the battle; it is the destination that determines the journey. Daily, we are called to reflect on heaven. When we weep, we are to think of the day when every tear will be wiped away. When we face the destructive power of death, we are to think of the day when death is swallowed up in victory. When we labor against abortion, we are to think of the day when we will have the rest and peace of the final triumph of life. Heaven is as real as earth, and its joys will be as real as our present sorrows.

National Campaign News
The Beginning of the End
The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.
It's Day 40 -- the final day of this fall's 40 Days for Life effort. Together we have witnessed God accomplishing amazing miracles through His faithful people, and I really believe that we are witnessing the beginning of the end of abortion in our land. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for being a part of the most profoundly touching 40 Days for Life campaign yet. As we wrap up the fifth coordinated 40 Days for Life effort, the seeds you have planted are beginning to bear incredible fruit.
One sign of that is the level of opposition that has been seen in many communities. The abortion industry is starting to squirm. Ann Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League sent photos of people praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil in Chicago -- and a picture of people actually demonstrating against 40 Days for Life. On the day the demonstrators were there, she said, "they managed to create enough of an obstruction along the street that no one came in for an abortion." Now that's what I call utterly amazing -- and it's clearly the hand of God at work. "Little do they realize," Ann said, "they are saving babies by their presence."
To see the pictures from Chicago, read the entire national update located at: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=493. Please join us as we give witness to the truth at our sidewalk. Utilize this Right before someone puts in place an ordinance that removes our right to free speech.
Local Campaign News
Closing Celebration Marks the Beginning of Our Continued Prayer EffortTonight’s Closing Celebration was a wonderful opportunity for many of those who have participated during the past 40 Days to come together and share some time together in the fellowship of believers, believers in Christ and believers that we are called to protect the most innocent among us, innocent children made in the image and likeness of God. We were blessed to have joining us Trevor and Tanya from the River Rock Christian Fellowship who brought their Shofars and cried through these ram’s horns to bring down the Blood of the Lamb upon the abortion site, that the killings would stop.
After prayer, and scripture we drove in procession to River Rock’s new building which they were kind enough to allow us to use for our Pot Blessing (a blessing is far better, much richer than mere luck), and the showing of the movie “I Was Wrong” with Norma McCorvey. Again we were blessed, as with us were 2 of the babies that have been saved at the sidewalk, one was Julianna, who was saved by Richard five months before his arrest. The second child present was saved at the sidewalk on day 31 (March 27) of the Spring 2009 campaign. Diego’s parents came with him in his car seat and were both proud parents of their young son. The father was quite open about the fact that Diego was saved as a direct result of your prayers. Thank you for all who have been lifting up this campaign in prayer. Your prayers have made these saves possible.
An additional blessing on the evening was that we had at least 10 different churches represented by those present, although we’d like to see this continue to grow in the future, as it is only by bringing the entire body of Christ together that we will see abortion brought to an end, in Reno, in our Region, in the United States and in the World. Please help us unite the body of Christ for this effort. Come in join in the fellowship of our various events, where you too can better know the others who are joining you as we Pray to End Abortion.
Reno Police Non-Emergency Number – 775 334-2099
The Reno non-emergency Police number we have been asked to use at this time is 775-334-2099. If you’d like to report being sprayed by the watering system or having music blasted while you’re at the sidewalk, please use this Reno Police non-emergency line. If you feel that you are in threat of imminent harm, call 911 immediately.
Before you come out to pray, please sign a Statement of Peace which can be found on-line at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace. If you do get to the sidewalk, don’t forget to send your impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.
Our website has been undergoing major renovations, due to the assistance of our webmaster, Suzie. Take at look by going to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe and don’t miss the Resources section!
Remember, if you plan to participate as a member of 40 Days for Life, you are asked to follow the law, including those that apply to private property. Do not enter the property of the abortion site and do not leave “Litter” behind when you depart. This includes large crosses on the public land directly across from the abortion site. If you have not yet signed a Statement of Peace, please do so now on-line. Also remember, that as witnesses to Christ, we come to bring the Love of Christ to the sidewalk. While this refers to everyone with whom we interact, it applies especially to Dr. Stutes and his staff. It is through his conversion of heart that we have the most to gain, especially if he repents of the abortions he has participated in and accepts Christ and His forgiveness.
Coming Events
- “Sarah’s Choice” Movie – Carson City Community Pregnancy Center
- The details are coming, but the Community Pregnancy Center has obtained the rights to broadcast this movie at churches in the area. They already have at least one church lined up and more are being sought. Continue to watch here for details on the locations of where the film will be shown in our area. If you would like to bring it to your church reply here, or contact Kimberly at the Carson City Community Pregnancy Center.
- Walk for Life West Coast – San Francisco – January 23, 2010
- Join the over 32,000 other Pro-Life supporters who make the trek to San Francisco each January to walk from the end of Market Street (Justin Herman Plaza) to the Marina Green. The day starts with rousing talks given to thousands, followed by the peaceful, prayerful walk through Fisherman’s Wharf, concluding with a number of pro-life organizations offering information to assist you in better serving the efforts of the Pro-Life Movement. In the past, we have assisted by offering information on the 40 Days for Life National campaign, from which many new locations have joined in the effort. Last year, at the end of the walk, a number of women from Silent No More Awareness gave their testimonies as to how abortion hurt them, in the hope that others would realize that Abortion is not a loving, livable option. There are a number of busses that will be leaving from the Reno area, offering a reasonably priced option for getting to San Francisco to join this life affirming event. Watch for additional details. For more information on the walk, go to their website, http://www.walkforlifewc.com/.

40 Days through Scripture
- Day 40 – Revelations 15 - 22 (including: Revelations 18:4-8)
- Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Depart from her, my people, so as not to take part in her sins and receive a share in her plagues, for her sins are piled up to the sky, and God remembers her crimes. Pay her back as she has paid others. Pay her back double for her deeds. Into her cup pour double for her deeds. Into her cup pour double what she poured. To the measure of her boasting and wantonness repay her in torment and grief; for she said to herself, ‘I sit enthroned as queen; I am no widow, and I will never know grief’ Therefore, her plagues will come in one day, pestilence, grief and famine; she will be consumed by fire. For mighty is the Lord God who judges her.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightening, rumblings and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.

Casa de Vida Serves Local Pregnant Women
[Catholic News Agency report, per Melissa Clement, of Nevada Right to Life] - Before moving into Casa de Vida, a residential program for young, pregnant women, 22-year-old Dominique Sawyer had two options: the street or a homeless shelter. “It was the shelter, the streets or here,” said Sawyer, who is expecting a baby girl in December. “I thank God every day that I was sent here. Everything turned around for me. It opened a lot of doors.” Casa de Vida in Reno provides support and services for young, pregnant woman who have nowhere to turn. They may be homeless. They may be drug addicts. They may be rejected by their family and friends for being pregnant out of wedlock and refusing to have an abortion. Some girls are as young as 12. “A lot of the girls would not be in a very good situation,” said Valerie Luevano, executive director. “This is a ray of hope for them.”
Casa de Vida, a nonprofit program, gives them a roof over their heads, nutritious meals that support maternal health and access to medical care. For many of the women, it’s the first time there’s been enough to eat. “Sometimes there’s some hoarding and stockpiling of food,” Luevano said. “So we really have to teach them that it’s safe to be here. You never have to worry about being hungry.” Casa de Vida was founded in 1982 by three Catholic women: Pat Glenn, Terry Ricciardi and Sister Peter Damian. The women were answering phones at a crisis pregnancy hotline and realized the community lacked a residential resource for the women they were counseling.
The program, which is privately funded through grants and donations, has the capacity to house six women. Some women stay after the babies’ births in order to get on their feet. A social worker provides case management services to the clients, as well as any other pregnant or parenting women in the community. The women receive individual and group counseling by a behavioral health care professional, and classes on parenting, budgeting and child development. Continue Reading …
Is Abortion Genocide?
[Plumb Bob Blog] - Research published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) a few weeks ago notes that abortions killed more African-Americans than the 7 next highest causes of death combined. (You can read the actual report here; the link points directly to Table 9, which shows the relevant statistics.)
Abortion kills more black Americans than the seven leading causes of death combined, according to data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 2005, the latest year for which the abortion numbers are available.
Abortion killed at least 203,991 blacks in the 36 states and two cities (New York City and the District of Columbia) that reported abortions by race in 2005, according to the CDC. During that same year, according to the CDC, a total of 198,385 blacks nationwide died from heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases combined. These were the seven leading causes of death for black Americans that year.
States are not required to report abortion statistics by race (not required to report them at all, in fact.) Abortion statistics by race were only available for 36 states; among those missing were California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, and New York outside of New York City. Also, abortions performed by private physicians were not reported to the CDC. Consequently, the 203,991 abortions reported among blacks by the CDC was far lower than the actual number. And still, it was enough to swamp all other causes of death among African-Americans.
Abortion is arguably the most favored “right” among social liberals in America, for reasons about which one can only guess because they’re never candid about it. When Al Gore attempted a rousing speech at the 2000 Democratic convention, the only sound bite that earned him more than meager applause was his full-throated defense of legal abortions. And President Obama, whose measures to nationalize and over-regulate American industry have come at a breath-taking pace, and who has several times directed federal favors in the direction of his union buddies and contributors, took some of his earliest Presidential steps to expand the number of legal abortions — a direction that those of us who actually did our homework about Obama fully expected. Democrats claim that they really don’t like abortions, that nobody really wants them, that steps should be taken to keep abortions rare, but that they must be kept legal to protect women. None of these statements are believable, particularly the last, since recent surveys reveal that women feel pressured to have an abortion in almost 2/3 of actual abortions, and that violence by spouses, boyfriends, and significant others against women rises dramatically when the women are pregnant. But most Democrats scrabble frantically for reasons to reject facts that make abortion seem like a bad bet for women; they’ve been unwilling even to consider the now-voluminous evidence demonstrating serious health effects from abortions. Something other than the safety of women motivates them. They won’t say what it is. To continue reading …

Pictures of the Day
Blowing of the Shofar, a Pot Blessing Gathering and Babies Saved
Today’s Closing Celebration was worth a thousand words, but in an effort to spare you the agony, instead, here are several photos from the event.
Blowing of the Shofar – Trevor and Tanya, members of River Rock Christian Fellowship, blew the shofar to bring down the blood of the Lamb upon the abortion site. Let us pray that the Lord hear our cry and that the abortions at this location and elsewhere in our nation and our world be brought to an end.
Pot Blessing – This well attended celebration included participants for at least 10 churches, and a nice spread of food. We even had a beautiful sheet cake donated by Millie Foo.
- Julianna – The beautiful 10 month old baby/toddler was saved by the constant presence of Richard, after our Spring 2008 campaign had come to an end. Because of his continued faithfulness to LIFE, this child’s life was spared. Are you willing to give an hour a week so that another child might live?
- Diego – This young boy is able to sleep in peace while being raised by two loving parents now because the Our Lady of Snows Church came to the sidewalk. Donna, one of our most faithful volunteers, has, along with Marty, worked tirelessly to bring members of her church to the sidewalk on an ongoing basis, over the past 4 campaigns. And here is the fruit from that effort. Would you be willing to coordinate an adopt-a-day if you knew that a life so precious would be spared?
Back Alley Abortions
It has been argued that if abortions were illegal we would “return” to a time when abortions were unsafe and women would be seeking out disreputable abortionists who would needlessly put their lives at risk. Are today’s legal abortions safe, even from just the perspective of the immediate health risks? Do today’s abortionists apply the highest standards of medical care to the procedures they provide? What do the facts tell us? Here is a look a the tip of the iceberg.
Women killed by legal abortions (and these are just those that are known).
Clinics being investigated (not a complete list)
Clinics operating without a license (17 of 21 abortionists in the State of Ohio)

U.S. House Speaker Pelosi wants to ram the pro-abortion health care bill through the House - Telephone your representative in the U.S. House today!
[NRLC] - This is an urgent congressional alert from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) in Washington, D.C. Please act on this alert immediately. …
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Ca.) is planning to try to ram the massive health care bill (H.R. 3200) through the House on short notice, without allowing consideration of a critical pro-life amendment. National Right to Life is urging every pro-life citizen to immediately TELEPHONE the office of his or her representative in the U.S. House of Representatives with a clear and firm message urging a NO vote on the so-called "rule," which is the procedural vote that would allow passage of H.R. 3200 with no amendments allowed, and also to vote against the pro-abortion bill itself.
Even if you have already called and written your representatives in Congress about the health care bills, it is critical that you call again now. This will just take a few minutes. For guidance on how to make your call, click here, or go to the NRLC Legislative Action Center at http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/ and click on the "Urgent Congressional Alert."
