National Campaign Daily Intention

Let us keep our eyes fixed on the New Jerusalem, where death will be no more.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” —Revelation 21:4-5

Every activity we undertake in defense of the sanctity of life is prophetic, in as‐much as it points to the day when “death will be no more.” Every victory we have when an act of abortion is prevented is prophetic of that day when death itself will be definitively conquered. Every triumph of grace in this world, whereby someone is brought to see the value of life and given the strength to welcome it, is a breaking into our history of that definitive future in which the old order of things will have passed, and all things will be made new. As pro‐life warriors, we must keep our eyes fixed on heaven, and our hearts secure in the hope that the day is coming when all evil will be conquered. It is the future that shapes the present; it is victory that informs the battle; it is the destination that determines the journey. Daily, we are called to reflect on heaven. When we weep, we are to think of the day when every tear will be wiped away. When we face the destructive power of death, we are to think of the day when death is swallowed up in victory. When we labor against abortion, we are to think of the day when we will have the rest and peace of the final triumph of life. Heaven is as real as earth, and its joys will be as real as our present sorrows.

National Campaign News

The Beginning of the End

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

It's Day 40 -- the final day of this fall's 40 Days for Life effort. Together we have witnessed God accomplishing amazing miracles through His faithful people, and I really believe that we are witnessing the beginning of the end of abortion in our land. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for being a part of the most profoundly touching 40 Days for Life campaign yet. As we wrap up the fifth coordinated 40 Days for Life effort, the seeds you have planted are beginning to bear incredible fruit.

One sign of that is the level of opposition that has been seen in many communities. The abortion industry is starting to squirm. Ann Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League sent photos of people praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil in Chicago -- and a picture of people actually demonstrating against 40 Days for Life. On the day the demonstrators were there, she said, "they managed to create enough of an obstruction along the street that no one came in for an abortion." Now that's what I call utterly amazing -- and it's clearly the hand of God at work. "Little do they realize," Ann said, "they are saving babies by their presence."

To see the pictures from Chicago, read the entire national update located at: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=493. Please join us as we give witness to the truth at our sidewalk. Utilize this Right before someone puts in place an ordinance that removes our right to free speech.

Closing Celebration Marks the Beginning of Our Continued Prayer Effort

Tonight’s Closing Celebration was a wonderful opportunity for many of those who have participated during the past 40 Days to come together and share some time together in the fellowship of believers, believers in Christ and believers that we are called to protect the most innocent among us, innocent children made in the image and likeness of God. We were blessed to have joining us Trevor and Tanya from the River Rock Christian Fellowship who brought their Shofars and cried through these ram’s horns to bring down the Blood of the Lamb upon the abortion site, that the killings would stop.
After prayer, and scripture we drove in procession to River Rock’s new building which they were kind enough to allow us to use for our Pot Blessing (a blessing is far better, much richer than mere luck), and the showing of the movie “I Was Wrong” with Norma McCorvey. Again we were blessed, as with us were 2 of the babies that have been saved at the sidewalk, one was Julianna, who was saved by Richard five months before his arrest. The second child present was saved at the sidewalk on day 31 (March 27) of the Spring 2009 campaign. Diego’s parents came with him in his car seat and were both proud parents of their young son. The father was quite open about the fact that Diego was saved as a direct result of your prayers. Thank you for all who have been lifting up this campaign in prayer. Your prayers have made these saves possible.

An additional blessing on the evening was that we had at least 10 different churches represented by those present, although we’d like to see this continue to grow in the future, as it is only by bringing the entire body of Christ together that we will see abortion brought to an end, in Reno, in our Region, in the United States and in the World. Please help us unite the body of Christ for this effort. Come in join in the fellowship of our various events, where you too can better know the others who are joining you as we Pray to End Abortion.
Reno Police Non-Emergency Number – 775 334-2099
The Reno non-emergency Police number we have been asked to use at this time is 775-334-2099. If you’d like to report being sprayed by the watering system or having music blasted while you’re at the sidewalk, please use this Reno Police non-emergency line. If you feel that you are in threat of imminent harm, call 911 immediately.

Before you come out to pray, please sign a Statement of Peace which can be found on-line at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace. If you do get to the sidewalk, don’t forget to send your impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

Our website has been undergoing major renovations, due to the assistance of our webmaster, Suzie. Take at look by going to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe and don’t miss the Resources section!
Remember, if you plan to participate as a member of 40 Days for Life, you are asked to follow the law, including those that apply to private property. Do not enter the property of the abortion site and do not leave “Litter” behind when you depart. This includes large crosses on the public land directly across from the abortion site. If you have not yet signed a Statement of Peace, please do so now on-line. Also remember, that as witnesses to Christ, we come to bring the Love of Christ to the sidewalk. While this refers to everyone with whom we interact, it applies especially to Dr. Stutes and his staff. It is through his conversion of heart that we have the most to gain, especially if he repents of the abortions he has participated in and accepts Christ and His forgiveness.

Coming Events

“Sarah’s Choice” Movie – Carson City Community Pregnancy Center
The details are coming, but the Community Pregnancy Center has obtained the rights to broadcast this movie at churches in the area. They already have at least one church lined up and more are being sought. Continue to watch here for details on the locations of where the film will be shown in our area. If you would like to bring it to your church reply here, or contact Kimberly at the Carson City Community Pregnancy Center.

Walk for Life West Coast – San Francisco – January 23, 2010

Join the over 32,000 other Pro-Life supporters who make the trek to San Francisco each January to walk from the end of Market Street (Justin Herman Plaza) to the Marina Green. The day starts with rousing talks given to thousands, followed by the peaceful, prayerful walk through Fisherman’s Wharf, concluding with a number of pro-life organizations offering information to assist you in better serving the efforts of the Pro-Life Movement. In the past, we have assisted by offering information on the 40 Days for Life National campaign, from which many new locations have joined in the effort. Last year, at the end of the walk, a number of women from Silent No More Awareness gave their testimonies as to how abortion hurt them, in the hope that others would realize that Abortion is not a loving, livable option. There are a number of busses that will be leaving from the Reno area, offering a reasonably priced option for getting to San Francisco to join this life affirming event. Watch for additional details. For more information on the walk, go to their website, http://www.walkforlifewc.com/.

40 Days through Scripture

Day 40 – Revelations 15 - 22 (including: Revelations 18:4-8)
Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Depart from her, my people, so as not to take part in her sins and receive a share in her plagues, for her sins are piled up to the sky, and God remembers her crimes. Pay her back as she has paid others. Pay her back double for her deeds. Into her cup pour double for her deeds. Into her cup pour double what she poured. To the measure of her boasting and wantonness repay her in torment and grief; for she said to herself, ‘I sit enthroned as queen; I am no widow, and I will never know grief’ Therefore, her plagues will come in one day, pestilence, grief and famine; she will be consumed by fire. For mighty is the Lord God who judges her.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightening, rumblings and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.

Casa de Vida Serves Local Pregnant Women

[Catholic News Agency report, per Melissa Clement, of Nevada Right to Life] - Before moving into Casa de Vida, a residential program for young, pregnant women, 22-year-old Dominique Sawyer had two options: the street or a homeless shelter. “It was the shelter, the streets or here,” said Sawyer, who is expecting a baby girl in December. “I thank God every day that I was sent here. Everything turned around for me. It opened a lot of doors.” Casa de Vida in Reno provides support and services for young, pregnant woman who have nowhere to turn. They may be homeless. They may be drug addicts. They may be rejected by their family and friends for being pregnant out of wedlock and refusing to have an abortion. Some girls are as young as 12. “A lot of the girls would not be in a very good situation,” said Valerie Luevano, executive director. “This is a ray of hope for them.”

Casa de Vida, a nonprofit program, gives them a roof over their heads, nutritious meals that support maternal health and access to medical care. For many of the women, it’s the first time there’s been enough to eat. “Sometimes there’s some hoarding and stockpiling of food,” Luevano said. “So we really have to teach them that it’s safe to be here. You never have to worry about being hungry.” Casa de Vida was founded in 1982 by three Catholic women: Pat Glenn, Terry Ricciardi and Sister Peter Damian. The women were answering phones at a crisis pregnancy hotline and realized the community lacked a residential resource for the women they were counseling.

The program, which is privately funded through grants and donations, has the capacity to house six women. Some women stay after the babies’ births in order to get on their feet. A social worker provides case management services to the clients, as well as any other pregnant or parenting women in the community. The women receive individual and group counseling by a behavioral health care professional, and classes on parenting, budgeting and child development. Continue Reading …

National News

Is Abortion Genocide?
[Plumb Bob Blog] - Research published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) a few weeks ago notes that abortions killed more African-Americans than the 7 next highest causes of death combined. (You can read the actual report here; the link points directly to Table 9, which shows the relevant statistics.)

Abortion kills more black Americans than the seven leading causes of death combined, according to data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 2005, the latest year for which the abortion numbers are available.
Abortion killed at least 203,991 blacks in the 36 states and two cities (New York City and the District of Columbia) that reported abortions by race in 2005, according to the CDC. During that same year, according to the CDC, a total of 198,385 blacks nationwide died from heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases combined. These were the seven leading causes of death for black Americans that year.
States are not required to report abortion statistics by race (not required to report them at all, in fact.) Abortion statistics by race were only available for 36 states; among those missing were California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, and New York outside of New York City. Also, abortions performed by private physicians were not reported to the CDC. Consequently, the 203,991 abortions reported among blacks by the CDC was far lower than the actual number. And still, it was enough to swamp all other causes of death among African-Americans.
Abortion is arguably the most favored “right” among social liberals in America, for reasons about which one can only guess because they’re never candid about it. When Al Gore attempted a rousing speech at the 2000 Democratic convention, the only sound bite that earned him more than meager applause was his full-throated defense of legal abortions. And President Obama, whose measures to nationalize and over-regulate American industry have come at a breath-taking pace, and who has several times directed federal favors in the direction of his union buddies and contributors, took some of his earliest Presidential steps to expand the number of legal abortions — a direction that those of us who actually did our homework about Obama fully expected. Democrats claim that they really don’t like abortions, that nobody really wants them, that steps should be taken to keep abortions rare, but that they must be kept legal to protect women. None of these statements are believable, particularly the last, since recent surveys reveal that women feel pressured to have an abortion in almost 2/3 of actual abortions, and that violence by spouses, boyfriends, and significant others against women rises dramatically when the women are pregnant. But most Democrats scrabble frantically for reasons to reject facts that make abortion seem like a bad bet for women; they’ve been unwilling even to consider the now-voluminous evidence demonstrating serious health effects from abortions. Something other than the safety of women motivates them. They won’t say what it is. To continue reading

Pictures of the Day

Blowing of the Shofar, a Pot Blessing Gathering and Babies Saved

Today’s Closing Celebration was worth a thousand words, but in an effort to spare you the agony, instead, here are several photos from the event.

Blowing of the Shofar – Trevor and Tanya, members of River Rock Christian Fellowship, blew the shofar to bring down the blood of the Lamb upon the abortion site. Let us pray that the Lord hear our cry and that the abortions at this location and elsewhere in our nation and our world be brought to an end.

Pot Blessing – This well attended celebration included participants for at least 10 churches, and a nice spread of food. We even had a beautiful sheet cake donated by Millie Foo.

              1. Julianna – The beautiful 10 month old baby/toddler was saved by the constant presence of Richard, after our Spring 2008 campaign had come to an end. Because of his continued faithfulness to LIFE, this child’s life was spared. Are you willing to give an hour a week so that another child might live?

              2. Diego – This young boy is able to sleep in peace while being raised by two loving parents now because the Our Lady of Snows Church came to the sidewalk. Donna, one of our most faithful volunteers, has, along with Marty, worked tirelessly to bring members of her church to the sidewalk on an ongoing basis, over the past 4 campaigns. And here is the fruit from that effort. Would you be willing to coordinate an adopt-a-day if you knew that a life so precious would be spared?
              Abortion 101

              Back Alley Abortions

It has been argued that if abortions were illegal we would “return” to a time when abortions were unsafe and women would be seeking out disreputable abortionists who would needlessly put their lives at risk. Are today’s legal abortions safe, even from just the perspective of the immediate health risks? Do today’s abortionists apply the highest standards of medical care to the procedures they provide? What do the facts tell us? Here is a look a the tip of the iceberg.

Women killed by legal abortions (and these are just those that are known).

Clinics being investigated (not a complete list)

Clinics operating without a license (17 of 21 abortionists in the State of Ohio)

[NRLC] - This is an urgent congressional alert from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) in Washington, D.C. Please act on this alert immediately. …

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Ca.) is planning to try to ram the massive health care bill (H.R. 3200) through the House on short notice, without allowing consideration of a critical pro-life amendment. National Right to Life is urging every pro-life citizen to immediately TELEPHONE the office of his or her representative in the U.S. House of Representatives with a clear and firm message urging a NO vote on the so-called "rule," which is the procedural vote that would allow passage of H.R. 3200 with no amendments allowed, and also to vote against the pro-abortion bill itself.

Even if you have already called and written your representatives in Congress about the health care bills, it is critical that you call again now. This will just take a few minutes. For guidance on how to make your call, click here, or go to the NRLC Legislative Action Center at http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/ and click on the "Urgent Congressional Alert."

Pray that we become vessels of hope to all around us, especially to those who minister in the pro‐life movement.

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”— Luke 24:15

[This reflection was supposed to have been posted yesterday for Friday, but Saturday’s reflection was mistakenly posted, hence the references here to “Friday”. Sorry about that ~CM.]

This meditation, based on a sermon I once heard, is adapted for pro‐life concerns. It’s Friday. Jesus is on the cross. He has been killed by his enemies; he is off the scene. But that’s because it’s Friday.

Sunday’s comin’! It’s Friday. Abortionists continue their work 3,300 times a day, tearing off the arms and legs of little babies and crushing their heads. But that’s because it’s Friday. Sunday’s comin’! It’s Friday. Pro‐abortion groups receive blood money from billionaires who are as deceived as they are. But that’s because it’s Friday. Sunday’s comin’!

It’s Friday. Liars attempt to speak for all women and hide the pain of abortion, and ignore the evidence of how it harms women, and call abortion a blessing. But that’s because it’s Friday.

Sunday’s comin’! It’s Friday. People of hardened hearts guard the clinics and usher desperate women in to have their abortions, while keeping them from the pro‐life people who want to give them hope. But that’s because it’s Friday. Sunday’s comin’! Hope does not mean that we ignore or minimize the evils around us. It means, rather, that we see the whole picture, which is that evil is conquered because of what happened one Sunday morning. We are called to proclaim, celebrate, and serve that victory, waiting in joyful hope for Christ’s return and the full flowering of the Culture of Life! Indeed, Sunday’s comin’!

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

Today is Day 39, and we're in the home stretch of this fall's 40 Days for Life effort. As we rapidly approach tomorrow's finish line for this campaign, I just posted another short on-location video that I think you will love: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=487 This hope-filled 4-minute clip comes from Peoria, Illinois -- in the middle of the American heartland.

You'll hear from several volunteers and the new president of the statewide right to life group about the blessings they have experienced as part of 40 Days for Life -- and how they went from a previous campaign that really struggled to this fall's effort that has involved hundreds of new people.

If you've missed any of the other short video reports (which have been getting THOUSANDS of views!) they're all posted online at: http://www.youtube.com/user/dbereit.

Amazing things continue to happen during 40 Days for Life! The 40 Days for Life team in Providence, Rhode Island report the story about a woman who had an abortion appointment at Planned Parenthood -- and abortion facility escorts who tried to prevent her from hearing the truth. …

Carson City Sidewalk Participation Perturbs Pro-abortion Neighbor

One of our wonderful supporters in Carson City, Tom of Carson City Florist (yes, this is one of the rare shameless plugs I am making, asking you to support this local business!) was at the sidewalk again, as he is frequently, when one of the neighbors came out of his home and started shining a flashlight into Tom’s car. Tom asked him to please leave his car alone, which precipitated a flurry of expletives and suggestions that “you’re all just a bunch of %*@ wackjobs …”.

Thank you Tom, for not responding in kind to the uncharitable diatribe of this upset neighbor. It is when we continue to respond with charity that we can make in roads in the course of helping others to appreciate that Life deserves to be protected. When we respond to anger with anger, the point that we hope to make gets lost in the heat of the exchange. When someone goes out of their way to express their anger against someone who is quietly praying on the sidewalk, we have obviously touched a nerve.

Please pray for this neighbor to the abortion site on Mica Drive in Carson City, so that he might reflect on his own behavior and be embarrassed with the way he behaved. Pray that in realizing that he reacted poorly that he consider his position and take the time to ponder on what pain he is hiding, masked behind the anger he displayed. Pray that he come to appreciate that Christ can forgive even the sin of abortion, and Lord we ask that you move him to repent of his sin, so that he can come to fully appreciate you as His Lord and Savior.

Members from Truckee Calvary Chapel Hold Prayer Event for 40 Days

Lilly & Bernie Brenes, of the Truckee Calvary Chapel, held a Prayer and Pot Blessing Celebration in honor of the close of 40 Days for Life. During their event they had several people share their own testimonies, including the story of a local High School student who has found herself the lone voice in her school speaking out in defense of innocent human life. Students who step out and publicly declare their appreciation for Life, starting at conception, are especially to be commended, as this is a time in life when the pull to win the approval of one’s peers is especially strong. Thank you to all the youth out there who have taken a stand for Life. You are helping us to change the culture of the next generation! May God Bless you abundantly for your efforts!

Quality Attendees Visit Booth at Church Fair

The size of the crowds at this weekend’s church fair, held at St. Teresa’s in Carson City was small and yet the caliber of the conversations was excellent, with nearly every person taking a pro-life stance. Many had not yet heard of 40 Days for Life, and they were interested to see the fetal models that we have of infants from 7 – 10 weeks. We also gave out a large number of the 12 week Precious One fetal models, rubberized wrist bands, precious feet pins and our literature. Let’s pray that these new members of our distribution list will feel called to step forward and participate in future pro-life activities!

              Reno Police Non-Emergency Number – 775 334-2099

The Reno non-emergency Police number we have been asked to use for the Fall campaign, is 775-334-2099.

If you can get to the sidewalk in Reno, to register for the hours when you’ll be at the sidewalk, go to: http://www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe. For those who live close to Carson City, please consider going to the sidewalk in front of the Tahoe Women’s Care, located on Mica Drive. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this effort. To register for your time there, go to: http://www.vigilcalendar.com/carsoncity. Don’t forget to send your impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

              Wrap-up Rally – Sunday, Nov 1 – 5:00 Shofar, 6:00 Pot Luck Dinner, 7:00 Movie
Mark your calendars for a true celebration, as we honor God for all the graces He has showered upon our campaign, this Fall and since we began this effort in the Fall of 2007. November 1st is the Catholic All Saints Day feast, the perfect time to join in celebration of all the Saints who have given their lives in service to Our Lord and to Thank Christ for the many graces He has showered on our campaign for the past 40 Days as we have sought to do His will. We have planned an event you will not want to miss. River Rock Christian Fellowship, having been recently blessed with a new Church home less than 2 miles from the West End Abortion Site, has graciously offered to allow us to use their facility for a Pot-Luck Dinner and Pro-Life Movie Night. We will end the 40 Day campaign with the blowing of the shofar at the sidewalk at 5 pm, along with a brief rally of prayer, scripture and sharing, and then we will proceed by car to their church for a pot-luck dinner of Celebration, as we fellowship and share our experiences of the past 40 Days. Our evening will conclude with a Pro-Life movie. Please, print a copy of our FLYER and with your Pastor’s permission, post it at your church for this weekend. Then, don’t forget to contact Millie at 775-348-9088 to confirm your attendance at this special evening. this weekend. If you are willing to help, contact us at renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

              Day 39 – Revelations 8-15 (including: Revelations 11:16-19)
The twenty-four elders who sat on their thrones before God prostrated themselves and worshipped God and said: “We give thanks to you, Lord God almighty, who are and who were. For you have assumed your great power and have established your reign. The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for the dead to be judged, and to recompense your servants, the prophets, and the holy ones and those who fear your name, the small and the great alike, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightening, rumblings and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.

              National News

              Remain Calm about Stupak

[Jill Stanek] MI pro-life Democrat Congressman (and co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus) Bart Stupak has been a real hero on trying to nix public funding of abortion in healthcare. I can't imagine how we'd stand a chance of stopping it without him.

That's why I didn't jump on Stupak when the following video was released from an October 24 Cheboygan town hall meeting....

              Specifically, Stupak said,

"I offered an amendment that says no public funding for abortion that's been the law of the land for many many decades and we lose that vote. Let's say we lose that vote.... Would I vote against health care? If I had a chance to vote my conscience I probably would not. I probably would still vote for the health care bill at the end of the day."

Despite that, this is a very, very tenuous time, not the prudent moment for pro-lifers to start attacking Stupak, IMO. He has enough enemies as it is. He is taking on his House leader Nancy Pelosi. He is taking on Obama. Stupak is under immense pressure.

I've listened to Stupak's rationale over and over, and it doesn't make sense. Pro-aborts find the comment newsworthy, as did even Fox's Brett Baier last night. I won't link to all the angry pro-life posts, but they're out there.

But I'm calling for calm. Here are some feasible explanations. First, Kristen Day, president of Democrats for Life, wrote in an email yesterday:

If Stupak gets a vote, his Amendment would most likely pass, which is why the leadership is not going to allow it. This is not the time to start attacking Stupak. He held a briefing today with the USCCB about abortion funding in health care. He has now 43 Democrats who said they would oppose the rule.

(Stupak needs 39 Dems to stop the healthcare bill.)

              Another friend inside Congress wrote:

I don't think it is helpful to focus efforts on attacking Mr. Stupak - the one Democrat who is actively working to advance our cause. He seems to be indicating that if his amendment were to fail, he will vote for the bill... It is possible he believes he has the votes to pass the amendment, so the scenario in which his amendment fails is unlikely. Whatever the case may be, pro-life groups need to be putting their efforts into growing support for the Stupak amendment.... Attacks on the one guy who has a shot at building a pro-life coalition of the necessary 40 Democrats won't accomplish anything.

Pro-Choice Republican Candidate Quits the Race in NY

[Watertown Daily Times, as Tweeted by Susan B. Anthony List] Dede Scozzafava, the Republican and Independence parties candidate, announced Saturday that she is suspending her campaign for the 23rd Congressional District and releasing all her supporters.

The state Assemblywoman has not thrown her support to either Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate, or Bill Owens, the Democratic candidate.

"Today, I again seek to act for the good of our community," Ms. Scozzafava wrote in a letter to friends and supporters. "It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my party will emerge stronger and our district and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations."

Ms. Scozzafava told the Watertown Daily Times that Siena Research Institute poll numbers show her too far behind to catch up - and she lacks enough money to spend on advertising in the last three days to make a difference. Mr. Owens has support from 36 percent of likely voters in the poll, with Mr. Hoffman garnering 35 percent support. Ms. Scozzafava has support from 20 percent of those polled. Switzerland Cracks Down on Suicide Tourism

[Times OnLine report, via Patrick Madrid Blog] he Times Online reports:

Switzerland announced plans yesterday to crack down on “suicide tourism”, signaling that it might close the Dignitas clinic that has helped hundreds of terminally ill people to take their lives.

The plans — in the form of two draft Bills that will be offered for public debate — are likely to set off a rush of patients from Britain and elsewhere in Europe since Switzerland has become the main destination for those seeking assisted suicide.

Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, the Justice Minister, said that two options would be presented to parliament. Either clinics such as Dignitas and Exit, which deals chiefly with Swiss patients, will have to accept much stricter regulation or they will be closed down.

The tightening of the rules would require patients to present two medical opinions declaring their disease incurable, that death is expected within months and that they have made their decision of sound mind and fully aware of their options. Continue Reading …

The Humanity of the Unborn – Are you Smarter than a 2nd Grader?

[Live Action] Josh Brahm of Life Report has released a new educational video titled, “Pro-Choicers IGNORE 2nd Grade Science Lesson!” that shows that it is a scientific fact that preborn humans are…you guessed it…Homo sapiens a.k.a. human beings.

Check out the video and use it as a resource whenever science-adverse abortion advocates try to make the case that preborn humans are not human beings.

              Abortion 101

              Men and Abortion

Women are not the only ones who suffer after an abortion. When it comes to an aborted child, men find themselves in one of three scenarios, each of which has different repercussions for him when dealing with the abortion. These scenarios are:

              • He pressured the mother of his child into having an abortion – he may end up suffering post-abortion grief coupled with guilt and shame for the role he played
              • He tried without success to talk the mother into sparing the life of their child – He may end up suffering from feelings of helplessness and anger at his inability to protect his child.
              • He didn’t even know that he was a father until after the fact, at which point he may feel distrust of the mother and these feelings may be extended to other women as well.

Post abortive men are also beginning to participate in Post-Abortive healing programs, in some cases along-side post-abortive women, through such programs as Rachel’s Vineyard or the resources offered by www.MenAndAbortion.net where the following excerpt was found:

I don't remember how I finally changed her mind - it took about a week, but I did it. I remember being with her at the clinic, with one of her friends, smoking outside. I was worried there would be protesters, but there weren't. I remember driving her home thinking "Thank God it's over!"

His story, reflecting on his self centered concerns while encouraging his then fiance’ to abort their first child shows that the presence of those standing in prayer at the abortion site affects even the male who has worked hard to bring his girlfriend to a place where she is willing to kill her child for him. Prayer and Fasting matters, doing so at the sidewalk also helps.

U.S. House Speaker Pelosi wants to ram the pro-abortion health care bill through the House - Telephone your representative in the U.S. House today!
