National Campaign Daily Intention

Pray that volunteers will replace exhaustion or discouragement with rejoicing over the miracles we have seen thus far, and enthusiastic service as God takes us on to victory!

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.—1 Peter 1:6-7

We have reason to rejoice when we consider the many babies whose lives have been saved during the 40 Days for Life campaign. Add to those lives, the women and men who have been spared from a devastating decision and now have opportunity to make a plan for their baby that is both life affirming and God honoring.

Whether directly, or indirectly, you have contributed to these testimonies of praise with your sacrificial service. Perhaps you have been grieved by various trials during your commitment to 40 days. The attacks of the enemy come in many forms ‐‐ difficulties in relationships, finances, health. Or maybe you are physically and mentally exhausted and have been marking off the days on your calendar, eagerly waiting for Day 40. Consider these trials in light of God’s plan for you. The Apostle Paul understood the big picture when he said in Romans 8:18, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” This is our Hope and our victory. Let us rejoice in the opportunity to give that Hope to others in our path.

Meet an Abortion Survivor

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

Jennifer in Cherry Hill, New Jersey has been thankful that the 40 Days for Life campaign in her community has the support of the local Catholic bishop in the Diocese of Camden. Just recently, Bishop Joseph Galante participated in the prayer vigil outside the abortion facility -- and more than 100 other people were there to join him.

To see a photo of Bishop Galante at the vigil, go to: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=480

But there's someone else in that picture that I'd like to call to your attention -- the young woman in the wheelchair next to Bishop Galante. Her name is Maricruz, and I would ask that you pray for her, her birth family in Central America, and her adopted family in New Jersey. Maricruz is an abortion survivor.

Twenty-one years ago, her mother tried to abort her. This was an attempted chemical abortion; her mother took a pill, which was assumed to be RU-486. It is believed that the drug was being used experimentally in Central America at the time. To make a long story short, the abortion pill didn't work. Maricruz was born three months premature. She survived, but was left severely handicapped and must use the wheelchair. Maricruz has three siblings in Central America -- and four others who were aborted.

The woman next to Maricruz is her adopted grandmother, an active pro-lifer who's been honored for her efforts on behalf of the unborn. She is also the mother of 13 -- including Jennifer. Yes, the woman who helped bring 40 Days for Life to Cherry Hill, New Jersey (it's just outside of Philadelphia, in case you were wondering) is also Maricruz's adopted mom.

Please share this story with the next person who complains that pro-lifers care nothing about "unwanted" children after they're born! Said Jennifer, "God provides for us in our lives when we accept His plan for our lives."

To read the entire national update go to: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=480. Please join us as we give witness to the truth at our sidewalk. Utilize this Right before someone puts in place an ordinance that removes our right to free speech.

Local Campaign News

Carson City Sidewalk Participation Continues to Grow

In addition to the growing number of prayer volunteers who have been attending the sidewalk in Reno, the presence on the sidewalk in Carson City has been steadily growing, with those standing in prayer becoming a regular occurrence at the sidewalk near the entrance to Tahoe Women’s Care, located on Mica Dr at the South end of town. If you live in the area, consider joining those already going to pray for the innocent children losing their lives at this Ob/Gyn practice.

Police Non-Emergency Number – 775 334-2099

The non-emergency Police number we have been asked to use for the Fall campaign, is 775-334-2099. If you’d like to report being sprayed by the watering system or having music blasted while you’re at the sidewalk, please use this Reno Police non-emergency line. If you feel that you are in threat of imminent harm, call 911 immediately.

Before you come out to pray, please sign a Statement of Peace which can be found on-line at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace. If you can get to the sidewalk in Reno, to register for the hours when you’ll be at the sidewalk, go to: http://www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe. For those who live close to Carson City, please consider going to the sidewalk in front of the Tahoe Women’s Care, located on Mica Drive. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this effort. To register for your time there, go to: http://www.vigilcalendar.com/carsoncity. Don’t forget to send your impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

Our website has been undergoing major renovations, due to the assistance of our webmaster, Suzie. Take at look by going to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe and don’t miss the Resources section!

Remember, if you have plan to participate as a member of 40 Days for Life, you are asked to follow the law, including those that apply to private property. Do not enter the property of the abortion site and do not leave “Litter” behind when you depart. This includes large crosses on the public land directly across from the abortion site. If you have not yet signed a Statement of Peace, please do so now on-line. Also remember, that as witnesses to Christ, we come to bring the Love of Christ to the sidewalk. While this refers to everyone with whom we interact, it applies especially to Dr. Stutes and his staff. It is through his conversion of heart that we have the most to gain, especially if he repents of the abortions he has participated in and accepts Christ and His forgiveness.

Coming Events

Carson City Church Fair –Oct 30-Nov 1, noon – 5 pm
The St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City is holding a fair on Oct 30-Nov 1, with vendor booths from noon – 5 pm Fri & Sat, during which we have been invited to promote 40 Days for Life, and rides until 11 pm Fri & Sat and until 4 pm on Sunday. Thank you to the three volunteers, Laura who has stepped up to help on Friday, Joe who will be assisting on both Friday and Saturday and Dick who has offered to join the effort on Saturday. With a team of volunteers like this, who can go wrong! It turns out that this will be no simple Church Fair that St. Teresa’s is holding as they have contracted with a carnival ride firm to bring the good old-fashioned Fair fun to this Carson City Church. If you’d like to enjoy some wholesome family fun, pack-up the kids and head to St. Teresa’s this weekend, and don’t forget to stop by our booth and say “Hi”. While the vendor booths (as we’re called) will only be there on Friday and Saturday, the Fair will be continuing on Sunday as well.
Wrap-up Rally – Sunday, Nov 1 – 5:00 Shofar, 6:00 Pot Luck Dinner, 7:00 Movie
Mark your calendars for a true celebration, as we honor God for all the graces He has showered upon our campaign, this Fall and since we began this effort in the Fall of 2007. November 1st is the Catholic All Saints Day feast, the perfect time to join in celebration of all the Saints who have given their lives in service to Our Lord and to Thank Christ for the many graces He has showered on our campaign for the past 40 Days as we have sought to do His will. We have planned an event you will not want to miss. River Rock Christian Fellowship, having been recently blessed with a new Church home less than 2 miles from the West End Abortion Site, has graciously offered to allow us to use their facility for a Pot-Luck Dinner and Pro-Life Movie Night. We will end the 40 Day campaign with the blowing of the shofar at the sidewalk at 5 pm, along with a brief rally of prayer, scripture and sharing, and then we will proceed by car to their church for a pot-luck dinner of Celebration, as we fellowship and share our experiences of the past 40 Days. Our evening will conclude with a Pro-Life movie. Please, print a copy of our FLYER and with your Pastor’s permission, post it at your church for this weekend. Then, don’t forget to contact Millie at 775-348-9088 to confirm your attendance at this special evening. this weekend. If you are willing to help, contact us at renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com. 40 Days through Scripture

Day 38 – Revelations 1-7 (including: Revelations 4:8-11)
The four living creatures, each of them with six wings, were covered with eyes inside and out. Day and night they do not stop exclaiming: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was, and who is and who is to come.”

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne and worship him, who lives forever and ever. They throw down their crowns before the throne, exclaiming:

Worthy are you, Lord our God, to receive Glory and honor and power, for you created all things; because “of your will they came to be and were created.”

Student President Faces Removal after Allowing Pro-Life Display

[LifeSiteNews.com] - A Christian student government president in California is facing a recall amidst anger from some administration and students after the student government permitted a pro-life demonstration during the college's annual Constitution Day celebrations.

Constitution Day at Sacramento City College, which took place this year on September 16-17, is an annual celebration of the Constitution and free speech, which features external speakers and organizations who request an invitation from the Associated Student Government (ASG).

ASG president Steve Macias, 19, and student affairs commissioner Monica Guzman now risk losing their positions in a recall vote after the ASG welcomed the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP). Run by the Sanctity of Human Life Network, GAP draws a comparison between abortion and past genocidal atrocities through graphic images.

While the ASG voted unanimously in favor of the GAP display on September 2nd, in response to a request from the pro-life group, some ASG officials have since denounced the event, admitting they were not aware of the nature of the group when they voted.

"The way the voting works is you get a proposal to read it the week before and you have a week to read it over before you vote on it at the board meeting," Macias told WorldNetDaily. "I guess some of them hadn't read it over and voted on it without knowing what it was. I guess they probably saw Genocide Awareness Project and thought, 'That sounds fine.' They didn't really do their research or ask any questions."

Critics say that hosting GAP without inviting an alternate viewpoint manifested a biased position from the ASG, but, in a September 17th statement, Macias insisted that "the ASG has not endorsed any one side of the debate on the constitutionality of abortion."

Rather, they merely accepted the group's request, he said. "The ASG does not take into consideration the specific viewpoint of those who request to be a part of ASG events," he explained. "The determining factor in our Constitution Day events was based on whether or not they addressed constitutional issues that were relevant to students and stressed the importance of our nation's founding documents."

On the second day of the event, several pro-abortion groups came out in response to the GAP display. Planned Parenthood, the Queer-Straight Alliance club, the Sac City Freethinkers club, and SCC Health Services put up their own booths and passed out flyers.

"They set up tables across from their exhibit and harassed them the entire time they were there, throwing condoms at them, yelling at them, putting signs up and saying, 'A woman's choice is a woman's choice,'" Macias told WND.

Macias says that on the day of the event the administration took him out of class to demand that he shut down the GAP display, despite the fact that the campus is open to the public. To continue reading

On October 20th, Students for Life of America held its first national webcast about the state of the campus pro-life movement. We were honored to have pro-life heavy hitters: Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, David Bereit of 40 Days for Life, and. U.S. Congressman Trent Franks (AZ) on the call giving a national update and talking about the importance of the campus pro-life movement. In addition, we were blessed to have 3 pro-life students on the webcast talking about the unique challenges each of them face as pro-lifers on their college campuses.

This is a webcast that no one should miss. It is educational and inspiring!

Abortion 101

The Adoption Option

Offering one’s child for Adoption takes courage and selflessness on the part of the birth mother, but this choice, as opposed to abortion, leaves her with the knowledge that she gave her child a chance at life, something that would not have been possible if she ended this new life before it barely got started. For those who are unable to provide a stable home, this is an option that may be right. The internet has a host of resources to help unexpected mom’s explore this option, including: http://www.childwelfare.gov/nfcad, http://www.itkteens.org, and http://www.ccsnn.org/AdoptionProgram.asp

U.S. House Speaker Pelosi wants to ram the pro-abortion health care bill through the House - Telephone your representative in the U.S. House today!

[NRLC] - This is an urgent congressional alert from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) in Washington, D.C. Please act on this alert immediately. …

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Ca.) is planning to try to ram the massive health care bill (H.R. 3200) through the House on short notice, without allowing consideration of a critical pro-life amendment. National Right to Life is urging every pro-life citizen to immediately TELEPHONE the office of his or her representative in the U.S. House of Representatives with a clear and firm message urging a NO vote on the so-called "rule," which is the procedural vote that would allow passage of H.R. 3200 with no amendments allowed, and also to vote against the pro-abortion bill itself.

Even if you have already called and written your representatives in Congress about the health care bills, it is critical that you call again now. This will just take a few minutes. For guidance on how to make your call, click here, or go to the NRLC Legislative Action Center at http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/ and click on the "Urgent Congressional Alert."

Spread the Message of Life on October 31st by making Pro-Life Jack-o-Lanterns!

National Campaign Daily Intention

Pray that we will each submit our‐selves this day as a living sacrifice to God, giving all that we have in us for those being sacrificed on the altar of convenience.

I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reason‐able service.—Romans 12:1

Since all things are for His glory, we are to offer ourselves for that purpose. This of course is in sharp contrast to those who are being swayed by the enemy to sacrifice their babies on the altar of convenience, rather than choosing to surrender their all, including their unborn child, to the Lord for His purposes. A career, education goals, or even a boyfriend can unknowingly become an idol for some young women. In their minds, abortion is a convenient way to “rid themselves” of an obstacle in the way of their “worship.” In light of the sacrifice Christ made on our behalf, and the fruit of God’s mercies on our lives, we owe God our highest form of praise and worship. Presenting our bodies as living sacrifices is therefore reasonable service. We were made to worship God and to worship God alone. The enemy who seeks worship for himself distorts God’s truth regarding worship, sacrifice, idols, and children. As you have given of yourself to rescue those who are perishing—the young woman as well as her child—you are worshiping God in the truest sense of the word.

May your prayerful example lead an abortion minded client to turn away from her idols to worship the one true God, sparing her child from the altar of convenience, and sparing herself from a lifetime of regret.

Major Milestone – 2000 Saved!

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

Here's where you can see the latest short video report from the front lines of the 40 Days for Life in Charlotte, North Carolina:

During the brief video, you'll hear from Protestants, Catholics, a maternity home director, and you'll get to meet Andrea -- a wonderful post-abortive woman who, two years ago, helped us recognize that 40 Days for Life was supposed to be a national effort.

(If you have trouble watching the videos or posting comments on our blog page, you can see all the video reports and post your thoughts directly on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/user/dbereit )

Now for the BIG NEWS!

In the last few hours, 40 Days for Life reached a major milestone, and I had to share it with you! Through the grace and mercy of God -- and the faithful prayers and fasting of well over 200,000 people standing vigil outside abortion facilities -- an incredible miracle has taken place. Starting with the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign in Bryan/College Station, Texas in 2004, and continuing through the international 40 Days for Life effort that is under way this fall, we now have received cumulative reports of ...

OVER 2,000 BABIES whose lives have been saved from the tragedy of abortion!

Who knows what wonders each of these children will bring to the world! …

To read the entire national update go to: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=475. Please join us as we give witness to the truth at our sidewalk. Utilize this Right before someone puts in place an ordinance that removes our right to free speech.

Local Campaign News

Closing Celebration – Join us on Sunday

Just around the corner is our Wrap-up Celebration, at which we will blow a Shofar at the sidewalk to mark the end of the campaign. After a brief Rally at the sidewalk, we will proceed by car, slightly less than 2 miles to the River Rock Christian Fellowship, located at 4690 Longley Lane, Reno. At 6 pm there will be a Pot Luck Dinner, followed by a ½ hr movie “I was Wrong” at 7 pm. Please download a copy of our Flyer and ask your church to post it this weekend. www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/flyer

Volunteer Meets Her Personal Goal for the Campaign

In conversation with one volunteer today, it was mentioned that she had reached her personal goal for the campaign, 40 hours at the sidewalk in prayer, one hour for each day of the campaign, and she’s not finished yet, nor does she expect to stop when the campaign ends. She realizes that while she’s tired and her spirits are hard press to continue what she’s doing, she knows that we’re making a difference. She has seen that lives are saved.

Another prayer volunteer reported that she has seen that business appears to be significantly down in the abortion site, as Dr. Stutes is arriving quite a bit later each morning, not showing up until 11 am, when he previously pulled in at around 9 am. This is a continuation of the trend previously noted during the campaign. It is estimated that there are an average of 5 women who enter the abortion site daily, as compared to our estimates of 15 per day when we began 40 Days for Life 2 years ago. At that time, the abortion site was open 5 days per week, compared to the 3 days each week that the facility is currently open. The staff also appear to be working fewer hours and fewer days, with their schedules broken with days, and sometimes a week between shifts.

Let’s pray that those who have been working in the abortion industry, both here, and elsewhere, leave their jobs that focus on killing and instead find work that is life affirming, and satisfying for themselves and that will support themselves and their families.

Correction – Police Non-Emergency Number – 775 334-2099

I’ve been told that the non-emergency Police number we have been asked to use for the current campaign, is 775-334-2099. If you’d like to report being sprayed by the watering system or having music blasted while you’re at the sidewalk, please use this Reno Police non-emergency line.

Before you come out to pray, please sign a Statement of Peace which can be found on-line at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace. Gallup: Decline in Abortion Support Increases Number Now Conservative

[LifeNews.com] - A decline in the number of Americans who say they are supportive of legalized abortion has made it so the number of people who self-identify as conservatives is on the rise. Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This marks a shift from 2005 through 2008, when moderates were tied with conservatives as the most prevalent group. The 2009 data are based on 16 separate Gallup surveys conducted from January through September, encompassing more than 5,000 national adults per quarter. Conservatives have been the dominant ideological group each quarter, with between 39% and 41% of Americans identifying themselves as either "very conservative" or "conservative." Between 35% and 37% of Americans call themselves "moderate," while the percentage calling themselves "very liberal" or "liberal" has consistently registered between 20% and 21% -- making liberals the smallest of the three groups. Changes among political independents appear to be the main reason the percentage of conservatives has increased nationally over the past year: the 35% of independents describing their views as conservative in 2009 is up from 29% in 2008. By contrast, among Republicans and Democrats, the percentage who are "conservative" has increased by one point each. As is typical in recent years, Republicans are far more unified in their political outlook than are either independents or Democrats. While 72% of Republicans in 2009 call their views conservative, independents are closely split between the moderate and conservative labels (43% and 35%, respectively). Democrats are about evenly divided between moderates (39%) and liberals (37%). Gallup noted abortion's impact on the results: In addition to the increase in conservatism on this general ideology measure, Gallup finds higher percentages of Americans expressing conservative views on abortion in 2009 than in 2008.

Abortion 101

Post-Abortive Healing

After years of prayer asking for this result, the Pro-Life movement is seeing an influx of new workers come to the effort, men and women who have previously had or encouraged an abortion. Before they can be fully effective in their new calling to save those who are currently at risk of following in their footsteps, before they can fully put the pieces of their own lives back in order, before they can leave their old “choices” behind, it is important that they have the opportunity to participate in a healing program. There are three basic ways of attaining healing available in the Reno/Tahoe area:

  • the PACE program, coordinated through the Reno CPC, a 10-12 week group bible study
  • Rachel’s Vineyard retreats, a weekend long healing retreat
  • individual counseling, preferably through a Christian counselor who has experience with post-abortion trauma

National Campaign Daily Intention

We are the defenders of true freedom. May our witness unveil the deception of the “pro‐choice” slogan.

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.—2 Corinthians 3:17

Norma McCorvey (the former Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade) used to work at an abortion mill named “A Choice for Women.” She now realizes what a cruel irony that title was. She saw first hand, just as pregnancy resource center counselors see, that women don’t get abortions because of freedom of choice, but rather because they feel they have no freedom and no choice. They feel trapped, abandoned, desperate and afraid, and have been led to believe that abortion is their only option. As Frederica Mathewes‐Green has written, no woman wants an abortion like she wants a Porsche or an ice cream; rather, she wants it like an animal caught in a trap wants to gnaw off its own leg.

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” That doesn’t mean that the Spirit allows us to do whatever we want or to decide for ourselves what’s right and wrong. Rather, it means that the Spirit gives us the freedom to do what is right, the power to choose what is good, when we see it before us and yet feel pulled in the opposite direction. Liberty means that we no longer have to feel doomed to do what we know is wrong. We are the people of the Spirit of the Lord, and when we take action on be‐half of life, especially by being present at abortion mills, we are acting on be‐half of true freedom, and imparting to those who are in bondage the power to do what is right.

National Campaign News

On the Streets of New York

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

A few days ago, I mentioned that Shawn Carney, our 40 Days for Life campaign director, was headed to New York City. Shawn made a short video account of his visit to the 40 Days for Life campaign in the city labeled "the abortion capital of America."

If you only watch one video during this 40 Days for Life, it HAS to be this amazing clip:

During the brief video -- which was filmed right on the street in Queens -- you will:

  • Hear from a volunteer who puts in 6-10 hours EVERY DAY outside of two of the largest abortion centers in the United States
  • See hundreds of passers-by receiving a pro-life education on the street
  • Discover the challenges of holding a campaign in a crime and drug infested area -- on the spot where a murder took place right before 40 Days for Life
  • Meet a sidewalk counselor who shares how they are saving lives in the midst of the hustle and bustle
  • Learn JUST HOW MANY lives have been saved in the Big Apple due to 40 Days for Life campaigns over the last two years -- prepare to be amazed in the last 20 seconds of the video!

The video is loud. Everything's in motion. It's got attitude. But hey -- it's New York City! :-) …

To read the entire national update go to: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=468. Please join us as we give witness to the truth at our sidewalk. Utilize this Right before someone puts in place an ordinance that removes our right to free speech.

Local Campaign News

A World Trade Center Event, Each and Every Day in America

Last weekend, Mnsgr Reilly, founder of “Helpers of God’s Precious Infants”, headquartered in New York, spoke at a Pro-Life retreat in Sacramento. He told of being in New York, at the sidewalk, counseling women when the planes flew into the World Trade Center. Sadly, the abortions were not interrupted that day for the all the surrounding chaos. But what struck most of his reflections on the day was his reflection while in prayer at ground zero, as the day came to a close.

He closed his eyes and reflected on what had happened, while the dust was still settling, and the emergency personnel continued digging in the hopes of locating survivors. With the entire incident raw and unprocessed, the image that came to his mind while in prayer was first of workers standing at the water cooler, or coffee pot, just beginning their day, greeting their co-workers, feeling totally secure in their safe office environment, until into this safe scene exploded a airplane, and a ball of fire. His immediate next impression was of a child in the mother’s womb, equally safe and secure until the tools off abortion rip through the safety and the child’s world explodes. Abortion is the terrorism that we have ignored for 36 years, silently decimating our nation at the tune of nearly 4000 American’s killed each and every day. A World Trade Center event occurs each and every day in our nation. Where is the outrage? Lord have mercy!

Remember to Pray When you Come to the Sidewalk

One of our prayer volunteers commented that we need to remember (and she included herself in this admonition) to pray while standing at the sidewalk, rather than lapsing into conversation with the others who come to the sidewalk. It is our prayers, more than anything else, that will make the difference, therefore, remember to utilize our most powerful weapon against abortion, the power of prayer. She recommends that if you’d like to visit with others who have also come to the sidewalk that you take your conversation to Denny’s afterwards (or other similar location).

Correction – Police Non-Emergency Number – 775 334-2099

I’ve been told that the number we have been asked to use for the current campaign, is 775-334-2099.

Wrap-up Rally & Celebration, Nov 1st, 5 pm

Just around the corner is our Wrap-up Celebration, at which we will blow a Shofar at the sidewalk to mark the end of the campaign. After a brief Rally at the sidewalk, we will proceed by car, slightly less than 2 miles to the River Rock Christian Fellowship, located at 4690 Longley Lane, Reno. At 6 pm there will be a Pot Luck Dinner, followed by a movie at 7 pm. Please download a copy of our Flyer and ask your church to post it this weekend. www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/flyer

Do you know how to drive a trailer? If so, please contact Carol Marie for help with a task this Sunday, 530-412-1573 or renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

Coming Events

Carson City Church Fair – Volunteers Found – Fri / Sat Oct 30-31, noon – 5 pm
The St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City will be having a fair on Oct 30-31, from noon – 5 pm each day, during which we have been invited to promote 40 Days for Life.
If you are willing to help, contact us at renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com. Your assistance and participation are greatly appreciated. We are looking for help in putting on this event, so please do not be shy, step forward and get involved!

40 Days through Scripture

Day 36 - I Peter 1 – I John 1 (including: I Peter 4:12-19)
Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer. But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name. For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, how will it end for those who fail to obey the gospel of God?

“And if the righteous one is barely saved, where will the godless and the sinner appear?”

As a result, those who suffer in accord with God’s will hand their souls over to a faithful creator as they do good.

Loyola University Researchers: Contraceptives Nearly Double Chance of Stroke

[LifeSiteNews.com] - A new study by Loyola University Health System neurologists indicates that oral contraceptives increase the risk of stroke about 1.9 times. The study involved the analysis of numerous previous studies conducted on the issue. Nevertheless, despite this finding the Loyola University's press release stated that the "benefits [of contraception] still outweigh risks for most users."

The research covers ischemic strokes, which are caused by the loss of blood supply to the brain. Overall, there are about 4.4 ischemic strokes for every 100,000 women of childbearing age. According to the study, published in MedLink Neurology, the use of birth control nearly doubles this risk, increasing it to roughly 8.5 strokes per 100,000 women.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, in 2002 roughly 11 million women in the US used oral contraceptives. Assuming that Loyola University's definition and Guttmacher's definition of contraceptive use are the same, this would mean that oral contraceptives may have contributed to over four hundred strokes in the US in 2002. About 100 million women use such contraception worldwide, which, under similar assumptions, would mean that contraception may contribute to over three thousand strokes each year. Political News

Pelosi Perturbed by Pro-Life Dem

[Heritage Foundation] - It looks like Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) isn’t happy with Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak’s efforts to make sure that taxpayer dollars do not pay for abortions in any new health care plan and, according to The Hill, “he may work with Republicans to torpedo healthcare reform unless he gets a vote to strip abortion-related provisions out of the House bill.”

From The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room: During an interview on C-SPAN’s ‘Washington Journal’ show, Stupak (D-Mich.) said he is undeterred in trying to ensure that taxpayer dollars do not pay for abortions. Stupak, who opposes abortion rights, acknowledged that some in his party are upset with his public campaign to change the bill. ‘The Speaker is not happy with me,’ Stupak said.

Stupak has pulled together 40 like-minded Democrats who plan to block healthcare reform legislation from coming to a vote on the House floor if the bill includes federal subsidies for abortions. As The Hill reports, “Stupak wants a vote on the House floor to strike the language, and predicts he would have the votes to pass such an amendment.”

The northern Michigan democrat’s threat to work with Republicans to halt healthcare reform appear tailored to forcing a vote to strip abortion-related provisions from the House bill. From The Hill: Stupak said one way or the other, there will be a vote on the abortion language, either “though a rule, or on the floor, or on a motion to recommit.”

Why is this an issue?

Even though President Barack Obama pledged, “Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions,” The Foundry previously reported that Obamacare will force the American people to pay for abortions because there is no law to prevent it from happening. What’s more, a provision known as the Hyde amendment, which blocks federal dollars from being spent on Health and Human Services programs, doesn’t apply to the health care reform.

But don’t take our word for it. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent a letter to Congress on October 8th writing: “No one should be required to pay for or participate in abortion. … No current bill meets this test.”

Bart Stupek – Would Vote for Abortion Funding Health Care

[Heritage Foundation] - Earlier today, The Foundry wrote about Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D-Mich) claim that he and like-minded, pro-life Democrats will work with Republicans to “torpedo healthcare reform unless he gets a vote to strip abortion-related provisions out of the House bill,” as reported by The Hill.

That sounded like good news, but in an exclusive Foundry video of a town hall held in Cheboygan, Mich., on Saturday, it appears that Stupak intends to vote for the Democrats’ healthcare reform, even if it includes public funding for abortion. Watch the video from the Town Hall meeting.

- So, what tangled webs are the pro-aborts weaving? Is this a case of look over here, while we pass things behind your back with our other hand? This merits close watching.

Abortion 101

Abortion – The Life of the Mother

The case of what happens when the life of the mother is threatened, is a scenario frequently raised as the necessary exception for allowing legal abortions? What do medical experts and others say about this situation, both medically and ethically? See http://www.all.org/article.php?id=10681 and http://www.all.org/article.php?id=10682.

In instances such as an ectopic (“tubal pregnancy”), the mother’s life is threatened by the growth of the child in her fallopian tube, which is not intended to support a growing fetus. The inevitable growth will result in a rupture, causing the mother to hemorrhage and risk bleeding to death. How is this situation addressed ethically? The answer can be ascertained through the application of the Principle of Double Effect (see http://www.all.org/article.php?id=10049&search=Principle%20of%20Double%20Effect)

National Campaign Daily Intention

Pray for post‐abortive women who cannot forgive themselves; may they understand that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sin is covered. Blessed is the one to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.—Romans 4:7-8

In the passage above, the Apostle Paul making a point about justification by faith, refers back to David’s words in Psalm 32:1‐2. In spite of the enormity of David’s sin—adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband—and the utter absence of any personal merit, David in his brokenness, understood the imputed righteousness of God. David’s response was not continued guilt over his sins, but praise for his freedom from guilt, and God’s power to live life differently. Once your relationship with God has been restored, your guilt has served its purpose and should no longer be given place in your life. This is true regardless of the particular sin, including the sin of abortion.

As a post‐abortive woman, I too struggled with this issue until I realized that punishing and hating myself after receiving God’s forgiveness was an insult to God. It was as though I were minimizing Christ’s work on the cross as insufficient to cover my sin. I was denying Him the opportunity to bring glory to His name for the healing and restoration He wanted to do in my life. I was giving victory to the enemy who having lost the battle for my soul, was bent on destroying my testimony as I accepted the continual guilt he heaped on my mind.

It is my joy to continually sing of God’s grace rather than give the devil a foot‐hold in my life. Don’t waste God’s mercy! Accept His forgiveness and for‐give yourself as testimony of His amazing grace.

Sometimes it Takes a While

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

As we enter the final days of this 40 Days for Life campaign, please keep in mind that God does not always grant the blessing of seeing immediate results from our efforts.

Such is the case in one 40 Days for Life community where the campaign has been conducted several times. Participants knew that because of their peaceful, prayerful witness outside the abortion clinic, lives had been saved from abortion. But what was really going on inside that building?

One person found out in a most surprising way. This person was not scheduled to pray at this particular day and time, but stopped by the vigil following a meeting. The clinic manager stepped outside to clean windows, so the vigil participant saw an opportunity.

"I spoke kindly and introduced myself."

About half an hour later, the manager came out and asked to talk -- "and invited me into the clinic!"

To say the least, what followed was an interesting conversation.

The manager wanted to explain and justify what goes on at the clinic, but it seemed like this clinic staffer was offering excuses for being involved in the abortion business. Furthermore, the manager professed to be a Christian who was certain "in my heart" that this was God's calling, and that what goes on in the clinic is not wrong.

"I asked if the manager's heart had ever been wrong," said the vigil participant, "and did my best to lovingly communicate my disagreement and the reasons I am passionate about defending both the unborn and their mothers. I said that Jesus cared for children, and that it does not matter what anyone thinks about when a fetus is a person or whether abortion is wrong. What matters is what God thinks; what Jesus thinks."…

The Doctors Didn’t Even Encourage Her

At this evening’s Youth event, held at Little Flower Catholic Church, Kat, a Polish mother of a two year old daughter shared with us this report:

When Kat was only 21 weeks pregnant, she began to suffer challenges in her pregnancy that threatened to result in her child being delivered prematurely. Because at 21 weeks the child is not considered to be viable outside the mother’s womb, she was told that if her child were delivered this early in the pregnancy, there could be any number of complications, from death, to blindness, to mental retardation. She was neither encouraged to fight for the life of her child nor given much hope that such a commitment would likely yield successful results, but she knew that if God wanted her daughter to survive, that she wanted to leave it to God, and He would provide.

She accepted that the only way to give her daughter a fighting chance was for her to remain on bed-rest for at least 3 weeks, and possibly longer, in the hopes of delaying the early delivery of her child, giving her every possible chance of maturing to the point that she could survive outside the womb. Her doctor commented that in his 17 years of practice, she was the first mother facing such a choice that had been willing to sacrifice her own comfort for 3 weeks to fight for the life of her child. I makes me wonder was it his manner of encouragement (or lack thereof) that failed to strengthen women to handle the challenge of a few weeks that would result in saving her child’s life? Or have we really sunk as a culture to such depths that when a woman’s own child is struggling for life, that she can’t be bothered with the discomfort of spending a few weeks laying down when it can save the life of her own child. Have we bought into the lie that only a healthy life is worthy of being lived, so that parents are led to believe that a child that might have a disability are better off dead?

Whatever the cause, this beautiful child, who is now two years old and with no discernable disabilities, was abandoned by her doctors, who didn’t feel the need or responsibility to encourage her mother when decisions needed to be made. Kat says that the pain of staying completely immobilized for 3 weeks was nothing compared to the sense that she was in this all alone, that her doctors had no appreciation for the worth-while nature of her desire to strive to save her child, that was the hardest part of her ordeal.

What will happen to children like Kat’s daughter if health care rationing is put in place, with doctors being penalized for cost over-runs? Will doctors who see each life as precious suffer the loss of their practices due to government incentives and disincentives that penalize them for even allowing a parent to make the decision that Kat made to give her daughter a chance at life?

Thank you to the two volunteers, Laura who has stepped up to help on Friday, to Joe who will be assisting on both Friday and Saturday and to Dick who has offered to join the effort on Saturday. With a team of volunteers like this, who can go wrong! It turns out that this will be no simple Church Fair that St. Teresa’s is holding, they have contracted with a carnival ride firm to bring the good old-fashioned Fair fun to this Carson City Church.
If you are willing to help, contact us at renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com. Your assistance and participation are greatly appreciated. We are looking for help in putting on this event, so please do not be shy, step forward and get involved!

40 Days through Scripture

Day 35 - Hebrews 11 – James 5 (including: Hebrews 12:1-13)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood. You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.”

Endure your trials as “discipline”; God treats you as sons. For what “son” is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, are you not sons but bastards. Besides this, we have had our earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not [then] submit all the more to the Father of spirits and live? They disciplined us for a short time as seemed right to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we may share his holiness. At the time, all discipline seems cause not for join but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it.

So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees. Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed.

Aborted Fetal Material Used in Anti-Wrinkle Creams

[LifeSiteNews.com] - Children of God for Life announced today that Neocutis, a bio-pharmaceutical company focused on dermatology and skin care, is using aborted fetal cell lines to produce several of their anti-aging skin creams.

For years Children of God for Life has been a watchdog on pharmaceutical companies using aborted fetal cell lines in medical products and they have received thousands of inquiries from the public on the use of aborted fetal material in cosmetics.

However, the group says that this is the first time they have encountered any company bold enough to put the information right on their own website and product literature.

"It is absolutely deplorable that Neocutis would resort to exploiting the remains of a deliberately slaughtered baby for nothing other than pure vanity and financial gain," stated Executive Director Debi Vinnedge. "There is simply no moral justification for this."

Neocutis' key ingredient, known as "Processed Skin Proteins," was developed at the University of Luasanne from the skin tissue of a 14-week gestation electively-aborted male baby donated by the University Hospital in Switzerland. Subsequently, a working cell bank was established, containing several billion cultured skin cells to produce the human growth factor needed to restore aging skin. The list of products using the cell line include: Bio-Gel, Journee, Bio-Serum, Prevedem, Bio Restorative Skin Cream and Lumiere.

Vinnedge is calling for a full boycott of all Neocutis products, regardless of their source.

"There is absolutely no reason to use aborted babies for such selfish motives," Vinnedge said. "It is anti-life, anti-woman and counter-productive as Neocutis is about to find out!" Full story at LifeSiteNews
