NationalCampaign Daily Intention
We ask God that we may understand the concept of justice, as agift he gives and as a responsibility that shapes our work.
Letjustice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never‐failing stream!
—Amos 5:24 —
Justice, a key theme of the Scriptures, is something God doesand that we too must do. When God intervenes to save his people when they are helplessand in slavery in Egypt, he “does justice.” He manifested his justice in the plagues that were sent uponEgypt, whereby Pharaoh was convinced that he must let the people go. Justice is manifested as, in awe and wonder, God’s people seethe Red Sea open before them, allow them to pass without even getting theirfeet wet, and then close again to drown their powerful enemies. God is a God of Justice; he rescues us when we cannot saveourselves.
His justice, above all, is seen in Jesus Christ, who, when wecould not save ourselves, rescued us from the kingdom of sin, Satan, death, andhell. The mighty work of Christ on the cross and in the resurrectionis the perfect manifestation of God as the God of justice. We, then, are to bethe people of justice; we are to “do justice” by intervening to save thehelpless in the name and by the power of the God who saves us who are helplessourselves.
That’s why we have a pro‐life movement; that’s why we have a 40Days for Life Campaign; that’s why saving the unborn is our business.

UnexpectedBlessings!
One of theunexpected blessings of this 40 Days for Life campaign thus far is theunprecedented number of media stories about local campaigns -- and it's notjust the number of stories but the tone of those reports. Many of them havebeen highly positive!
An extremelyfavorable article about the 40 Days for Life kickoff appeared in the JournalStar, the daily newspaper in Peoria, Illinois. Here's the first part of thatstory:
Cathy Trowbridge had an abortion andlived to tell about it. Not overnight, mind you. But after 34 soul-searchingyears, the Princeton resident is silent no more.
"Not everybody can do this,"Trowbridge said Tuesday night at a rally at Riverfront Park to launch the 40Days for Life campaign. "Not everyone that has had an abortion can standhere and be able to face a crowd. But that courage comes from Him who selectsthose that can do it." …

What apowerful account -- and in a secular newspaper! It's a valuable insight intothe mind of the woman who seeks abortion, and something to keep in mind as youpray. Abortionclearly leaves a lasting negative impact.
You even maymeet someone at the 40 Days for Life vigil in your own community who has astory similar to Cathy's. The 40 Days for Life team in Bakersfield, Californiaknows it is more common than you might think. Here's a posting from their blog:
During Saturday's kickoff rally, avolunteer noticed a forlorn woman standing near the vigil signup sheets."I sensed that God wanted me to talk to her," the volunteer said.
"Can I help you sign up for atime to pray at the vigil?" the volunteer asked. The woman seemedreluctant at first. As the volunteer continued to talk to her, eventually sheopened up to share the internal struggle she was experiencing.
"Twenty-five years ago," shebegan, "I aborted my baby. Maybe if people like you had been there, mybaby's life could have been saved.

News on TwoMore Reno Saves!
All our savesdon’t occur at the sidewalk and those that do occur there often go unnoticed, sometimes forever, sometimes to be revealed months or years later. Today, we learn of two saves that have come from our campaign efforts.
Pat calledfrom the sidewalk. She’d been there since the early morning hoursthrough the day, and returned for the evening when she got the news that gaveher the boost needed to get her through the night. “I’m so excited;I’m ready to stay here all night, No Problem!” So, what had Pat soexcited?
While prayingwith several of the regulars who have been coming to the sidewalk since ourfirst campaign (or for some, since even before that) a pick-up truck drove pastslowly, turned around and made another pass. One of the newvolunteers expressed concern for their safety, not knowing why this vehicleseemed to be checking them out. It was late enough that theabortion site was already closed so it wasn’t a client looking for thelocation. When this couple finally stopped they said they werelooking for the gray haired gentleman who is so frequently at thesidewalk. They wanted to introduce Richard to their 8 ½ month olddaughter.
Apparently, this young father’s own dad is a doctor and a personal friend of Dr. DamonStutes, the abortionist who runs the West End Abortion Site. Whenhe learned that his son was going to become a young father, he referred him andthe mother of his child to Stutes to have an abortion. “You’re tooyoung to be parents,” they were told. While they were at the abortionsite, Richard started a conversation with them, and through his loving witness, they ended up choosing to give their daughter life.
For much ofthe pregnancy, they were prepared to give their child up for adoption, but whenthe learned that the adoptive family was a lesbian couple, they realized thatthey really weren’t ready to have someone else raise their babygirl. Now, this young father wanted to tell everyone at thesidewalk that his daughter is absolutely the best thing that has ever happenedto him. As a result of making the choice to be a parent and all thechanges that have come from having to take responsibility for his life, he hascome to know Jesus Christ, and he is currently in the RCIA program, and expectsto enter the Catholic Church at Easter next year. Not only was alife saved, but a soul as well! Praise be to God!
But thiswasn’t the only story of life that came to me today!
A friend, whomI met over the course of working on 40 Days for Life, attends the Valley ViewChristian Fellowship. During the last campaign she offered whatlooks like an excellent course on Abortion to the members of her church, overthe course of approximately 8 weeks. On the last week of theprogram, she invited me to present our Vigil Volunteer Workshop to the participants. Among the participants in her course were several teens. I turnsout that one of these girls has just found that she’s unexpectedlypregnant. Certainly it would have been better if she had maintaineda chaste relationship, but that decision is already behind her, now she hadanother choice to make, what to do about the reality she is nowfacing. Because of the exposure she got to the reality of abortion,as reviewed during this course (based on the Bethlehem Institute’s “Abortion isAbout God: Reframing a Moral Issue) she had no hesitation as to what she wasgoing to do.
Sadly, she hashad difficulties at home in the past, such that a social worker has beenassigned to her case. While her supportive parents were there forher, offering their assistance with her pregnancy and supporting her decisionto give life to her child, the social worker told her she would personally helpher get to an appointment at Planned Parenthood, even if she wanted to do sobehind her parent’s backs. Is this what happens if you allow asocial worker to help your child learn to make responsibledecisions? Thank God this girl was already well aware of whatabortion is really all about and she knew for herself that it was not a choiceshe wanted to make.

40Days through Scripture
- Day4: Matthew 19 – 24 (including: Matt21:18-22)
- When hewas going back to the city in the morning, he was hungry. Seeing afig tree by the road, he went over to it, but found nothing on it exceptleaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from youagain.” And immediately the fig tree withered. When thedisciples saw this, they were amazed and said, “How was it that the fig treewithered immediately?” Jesus said to them in reply, “Amen, I say toyou, if you have faith and do not waver, not only will you do what has beendone to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up andthrown into the sea.’ It will be done. Whatever you askfor in prayer with faith, you will receive.”

North DakotaBishop Asks All Priests to Spend "At Least One Hour" Outside AbortionFacility
Bishophimself commits to prayer hours with 40 Days for Life. [LifeSiteNews.com FARGO, ND, September 25, 2009] - Bishop Samuel J. Aquila, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Fargo, joined pro-life advocates for anhour of prayer this morning at 11:00, in front of a local abortion facility. His time of prayer coincides with the 40 Days for Life campaign, which beganSept. 23 in more than 200 communities nationwide. This is the third annual 40 Days for Life campaign to be held inNorth Dakota.
In addition to his own participation in the pro-life campaign,Bishop Aquila also recently sent a letter to allpriests of his diocese, asking them to participate in the 40 Days for Lifecampaign. In a Sept. 23 letter to priests, he wrote:
"I will pray on the sidewalk in front of the abortionfacility on Friday, September 25, at 11 a.m. and again on Respect Life Sundaywhen I lead a Eucharistic procession to the abortion facility, carrying ourLord in the Blessed Sacrament to the site of death for so many of his children.
"I ask that each of you schedule at least one hour ofprayer outside the abortion facility during these 40 days. I realize this willrequire great sacrifice for some of you in terms of miles traveled and timeaway from other pastoral duties. Yet I am confident that much fruit will comefrom your time spent in conversation with God at the site of this modern day, legally protected holocaust. Please also encourage your parishioners to take upthe cross of Christ for the most vulnerable among us."
His letter to priests continues, "Most especially in the'Year for Priests' we too are called to sacrifice - to carry the cross ofChrist. With Christ we stand in prayerful witness, in the cold, the rain, thesnow, enduring the glances of hatred and the words of disgust from those who donot understand. In faithful hope we pray that some will come to understand, that hearts will be transformed, unborn babies will be saved from death andparents will escape the agony of later realizing that their choice ended thelife of their child."
The 40 Days for Life campaign is a national ecumenical effort ofprayer, fasting and peaceful prayer and presence outside abortion facilities. The North Dakota campaign includes 40 days of non-stop prayer on the sidewalkoutside the Red River Women’s Clinic at 512 1st Ave. N., Fargo.
