National Campaign Daily Intention
May the King of the Universe, who entered this world as a helpless infant, give us the humility to be healed.
My power is made perfect in weakness.—2 Corinthians 12:9
The great mystery of the Humility of God is very near and dear to the mission of those serving in pro life and in a special way, post abortion ministries across this nation.
For those wounded by their participation in abortion, the door to healing of‐ten feels like crossing an abyss of great fear: fear of judgment, fear of being torn apart by the pain, by self hatred and rage at those who hurt and abandoned you, and manipulated you in your time of temptation. For men in particular, entering the unknown waters of emotional vulnerability, so necessary to healing calls for a different kind of courage that feels deceptively like weakness.
The door to healing is humility. It is born in the inability to no longer control the pain, to live with the consequences of that tragic decision to reject life. The hearts cries out, “I have committed a grave offense against my Creator and I am consumed by regret, grief and sorrow!”
During these forty days let us pray for all who have participated in abortion and with love call them to healing and reconciliation. With healing these women and men can become as John Paul II proclaimed in the Gospel of Life, “the most eloquent defenders of everyone's right to life.”
Jesus proclaimed, “I am the Vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5). To bear the greatest fruit, the branches must be pruned. Each level of pruning of the vine requires a deeper level of humility so that we can abandon ourselves to His will. This is not a lofty theological concept as much as it is an earthy experience of pulling weeds, tilling rocky soil, pruning and healing the vines. “If a man wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross, and be‐gin to follow in my footsteps” (Matthew 16:24).

Praying in the Rain
It wouldn't be 40 Days for Life without reports of wet weather. But a bit of rain hasn't discouraged people from coming out to pray. In fact, not even a LOT of rain has dampened the desire to go to the sidewalks outside abortion centers to ask for God's grace and mercy. It was before 6 in the morning -- well before sunrise -- when people gathered to pray at a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil outside a Nashville abortion center. And it was pouring.
"Advocates braved torrential rains and a dark night sky to speak for the helpless and vulnerable," said Jane. "Of special encouragement was the enormous courage of a pregnant mom who refused to be forced into an abortion she did not want."
Clearly the sight of people praying in the rain helped inspire her courage. To see what the people approaching that clinic saw on a stormy day in Nashville, and to read the rest of the National Campaign Update, go here: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=312

Full Day of Pro-Life Activities in Reno
Pro-Life Catholics in Reno began their day with the Respect Life Mass at the St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral on Sunday, followed by a Rosary Procession led by Bishop Randolph Calvo. Those present represented nearly a dozen different churches in the area as they walked to proclaim their commitment to protecting life from the moment of conception until natural death.
Later in the day, Pro-Life Christians, both Catholic and non-Catholic, joined to further promote the message of life, standing for a Life Chain from 2 – 3:30 on the corner of S. Virginia and McCarran. To see pictures from the Life Chain, go to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/LifeChain.
Silent No More Members Proclaim “I Regret My Abortion”
Several Post-Abortive women joined the Life Chain and there were those present who expressed an interest in also holding a sign allowing them to be Silent No More. If you are post abortive and would like to participate in an activity that would allow you to publicly acknowledge that you regret your abortion, please contact Carol Marie at 530-412-1573 or email renotahoe@40DaysofLife.com We would like to reach the men and women of the UNR campus and possibly groups of High School students with our message of caution. If you are post-abortive and have not yet received healing, you may want to consider participating in a healing retreat weekend through Rachel’s Vineyard (offered in Auburn) or a bible study, like the one offered through the Reno Crisis Pregnancy Center.

40 Days through Scripture
- Day 12: Luke 14 – 19 (including: Luke 18:1-8)
- Then he told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.’ ” The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Again, scripture assures us that the persistence of our prayers will lead to them being answered. Join us, be persistent. Committee Rejects Abortion Funding & Conscience Rights Amendments
[NevadaLIFE, Don Nelson, Reno NV] – Today’s rejection of an amendment to prohibit federal funds from “being used for elective abortions and plans that cover such abortions" shows that health care bills under consideration fund abortion.
The amendment, brought by Senator Orin Hatch, would have allowed insurers to sell abortion coverage through separate supplemental policies not subsidized by federal funds. Federal subsidies for coverage of elective abortions are not currently allowed under Medicaid, the Federal Employees Health Benefits program, or other federal health programs. Failure to prevent funding “for elective abortions and plans that cover them” would be a drastic departure with longstanding federal policy.
The rejection of this amendment further validates various media reports that government funding of abortion is in the bill. The AP says "health overhaul would create a stream of federal funding not covered by the [Hyde] restrictions. FactCheck.org says, "Despite what Obama said, the House bill would allow abortions to be covered by a federal plan and by federally subsidized private plans." Read the entire article on-line.
