National Campaign Daily Intention

We pray for humility in our work for God’s Kingdom

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond‐servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and be‐came obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.— Philippians 2:5-8

There is no limit to what we can accomplish when we don’t care who gets the credit.

Jesus Christ’s life on earth exemplifies a total submission to the will of the Father. His humility, compassion, gentle‐ness and thoughtfulness are reflected over and over again in the New Testament. He was God incarnate, yet He chose to be born to a humble, working class home.

How absurd it must have seemed to the rich and powerful that the Son of God, the Messiah, the one foretold by the prophets, the ‘King of the Jews’ was born and raised as a simple peasant. During His thirty‐three years on earth, He sought no riches, claimed no secular power and gathered no possessions. His short time on earth changed more lives, softened more hearts, and gave hope to more people, than all the rich and powerful human ‘kings’ combined. And, at the end of His life on earth, by dying on the cross, He opened the door to eternal life for those who heed his words and follow in his footsteps.

299 Alive, Thanks to You!

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country. Here is an excerpt from today’s update.

The day before this fall's 40 Days for Life campaign began, the local team in Orange County, California received some great news. Nathan had just been born—at a very healthy nine pounds!

At once point, however, Nathan's life had definitely been at risk. Thankfully, he was one of the babies whose mom chose life during the spring 40 Days for Life campaign.

"Please tell all those people thank you," said Nathan's mother. "Thank you for being there praying for people that you do not know. You made a huge difference in my life and in my baby's life. I cannot thank you enough for what you did."

The Orange County team also got to meet a different baby named Jack. He had been scheduled to be aborted ... TWICE! But his mother chose life. Jack's adoptive mom brought him with her when she went to pray at the 40 Days for Life vigil.

We rejoice for all the lives saved ...299!

A Child’s Prayer and Perhaps A Child Spared

Two stories came forth from the sidewalk today, one about a child’s prayer and the other about a child who may have been spared. First, the story sent in by two children who come to the sidewalk to pray each morning. If you’ve been reading the daily updates, you’ll have already learned about the many crosses that Paul and others have been constructing across the street from the abortion site, crosses that have apparently touched the soul of Dr. Stutes. Our prayers have been with all who have been making the crosses, as we desire that Dr. Stutes come to know the power of Christ to love every sinner and of Jesus’ deep desire to call us all to His infinite Love and Mercy through repentance.

Here is what 9 year old Samantha wrote about her visit to the sidewalk today.

Today was different from the other days that we go and pray at the abortion clinic. Our friend Paul was making beautiful wooden crosses. Suddenly, four cop cars drove up and started to explain to Paul that he was trespassing. I thought they were going to take Paul to jail! It was such a dreadful thought that I started to cry. I didn’t know what to do so I just prayed really hard, my prayer for Paul was, ’’Jesus and Mary please protect, Paul.’’ When we left our prayers were answered because Paul was safe.

Her 8 year old sister, Shannah, had her own impressions she wished to share.

Today we went to pray at the abortion clinic. As soon as we started praying, three police men and one police woman came to stop Paul making small crosses and hammering them into the ground. Paul also made a big, beautiful cross with branches decorated at the bottom. The police woman gave mommy a card and told us why they were stopping Paul. We were happy that they didn’t take Paul to jail. Before we left, one police man was starring at us and I didn’t understand why. What a scary experience!

Upon reading their messages, it was too late to contact Paul for further information regarding the details of his interactions with Reno’s finest. As an interesting aside note, on Day 27 of our Fall 2008 campaign, Richard was arrested at the sidewalk, on charges of Trespass. His trespass charge was against the abortion site for having touched the fence. It is because of this that we ask that no-one touch the fence in front of the abortion site. It doesn’t sound like Paul was anywhere near the abortion site property, so we are interested to ask on what private property he is supposed to have been trespassing? Watch for further details on this story tomorrow.

But the day continued to be a noteworthy one, as we’ve come to anticipate when there is persecution at the sidewalk. Later in the day, Rachel reports that as she and Laura were standing in prayer before the closed abortion site, a young couple drove past slowly. He was at the wheel while she held a piece of paper and scanned the buildings, apparently looking for an address. After passing the abortion site, they made a U-turn and slowly drove back towards the two women standing at the sidewalk. “Can we help you?” Rachel asked the young couple. “We’re trying to find something” the young woman told them. “Are you looking for the West End Women’s Medical Clinic?” Rachel kindly asked? “Yes” was the tentative reply. “Are you pregnant?” they asked. “I’m not certain, but I might be, that’s what we want to find out.” the frightened young woman who introduced herself as Marie, answered.

At this, Rachel gave Marie one of our “Before You Choose” brochures, along with the insert listing all the local resources which Laura was able to provide (you can print copies from our website at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/Resources) By the time their conversation was finished, Marie seemed interested in exploring her options more openly, but Rachel and Laura were uncertain that the boyfriend was appreciating the assistance they had been offered.

Please pray for this young couple that if Marie is pregnant that they will quickly appreciate the beauty of the gift of life that they have been given and will come together to protect their child, through birth and beyond. Pray that if Marie is not pregnant that they will see this as a wake-up call to examine the way they are living their lives so that they can treat one another and the physical aspects of their relationship with the dignity each deserves, saving their embrace for marriage, where children are the welcome outcome of their love.

Even prayers on the day the site is closed provide for opportunities to directly reach the young and desperate couples who seek a solution in an abortionist’s den. Are you ready to bring Christ’s light to those who come to the abortion site?

Will you join us as we Pray to End Abortion? Please, spend an hour or more at the sidewalk tomorrow and send an email telling about your experiences! To register for the hours when you’ll be at the sidewalk, go to: http://www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this effort. Send your impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

The St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City will be having a fair on Oct 30-31, from noon – 5 pm each day, during which we have been invited to promote 40 Days for Life. We are looking for 2 or more volunteers to assist with the booth on Friday and at least one volunteer to assist on Saturday. Wrap-up Rally – Sunday, Nov 1 – 5:00 Shofar, 6:00 Pot Luck Dinner, 7:00 Movie
Mark your calendars for a true celebration, as we honor God for all the graces He has showered upon our campaign, this Fall and since we began this effort in the Fall of 2007. November 1st is the Catholic All Saints Day feast, the perfect time to join in celebration of all the Saints who have given their lives in service to Our Lord and to Thank Christ for the many graces He has showered on our campaign for the past 40 Days as we have sought to do His will.

Ideas being explored as we plan an event you will not want to miss. River Rock Christian Fellowship, having been recently blessed with a new Church home less than 2 miles from the West End Abortion Site, has graciously offered to allow us to use their facility for a Pot-Luck Dinner and Pro-Life Movie Night. We will end the 40 Day campaign with the blowing of the shofar at the sidewalk at 5 pm, along with a brief rally of prayer, scripture and sharing, and then we will proceed by car to their church for a pot-luck dinner of Celebration, as we fellowship and share our experiences of the past 40 Days. Our evening will conclude with a Pro-Life movie.

If you are willing to help, contact us at renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com. Your assistance and participation are greatly appreciated. We are looking for help in putting on this event, so please do not be shy, step forward and get involved!

40 Days through Scripture

Day 27 1 Corinthians 10 - 15 (including: 1 Corinthians 12: 1-11)
Now in regard to spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. You know how, when you were pagans, you were constantly attracted and led away to mute idols. Therefore I tell you that nobody speaking by the spirit of God says, “Jesus be accursed.” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. To one is given through the Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another the expression of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit; to another mighty deeds; to another prophesy; to another discernment of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them individually to each person as he wishes.

What gifts of the Holy Spirit belong to you? How are you using them to give Glory and Honor to God? In what are they meant to be used to support Life from the moment of conception through natural death? Take the time, use your gifts wisely.

Adult Stem Cells Help Patients With Spinal Cord Injury

[From FRCblog by David Prentice (Oct. 18, 2009) as reported by National Right to Life] — A new report by researchers in Portugal and at Wayne State University shows adult stem cells increased mobility and quality of life for spinal cord injury patients. Dr. Jean Peduzzi-Nelson collaborated with Dr. Carlos Lima and colleagues for the study, published in the journal Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair. [http://nnr.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/1545968309347685v1]

The study follows 20 patients with severe chronic spinal cord injuries. All of the patients had total paralysis below the level of their spinal cord injury before the treatment, with treatment 18 months to 15 years after the injury. Patients received a combination of partial scar removal, transplantation of nasal tissue containing adult stem cells to the site of the spinal cord injury, and rehabilitation. All patients had no use of their legs before the treatment, while after treatment 13 patients improved in the standard measures used to assess functional independence and walking capabilities. Judge Rules that Obstetricians Have a Duty of Care to the Unborn

[LifeSiteNews.com, By Patrick B. Craine] - The Ontario Superior Court ruled last Wednesday that obstetricians owe a duty of care to the unborn.

The question about the responsibility of healthcare workers towards the unborn arose after Guelph General Hospital had claimed that there was no such responsibility in August, during a preliminary proceeding to a malpractice case brought by a family who claim that hospital staff were negligent in the birth of their son.

Kevin Liebig, 8, from Rockford, was born with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, a type of brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation, and has since been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. His family, who have fought a seven-year-long legal battle against the hospital and members of its staff, maintain that Kevin's condition is due to the fact that his mother, Susan, was given too much oxytocin during his delivery without adequate monitoring.

The defendants in the case are Guelph General Hospital, Dr. Benjamin Ayandabejo, Dr. Roger Perron, Dr. Donald Huband, and nurses Jean McLean, Laura Lobo, Deb Rendall, and Amy Forsythe Tettman.

The defendants argued that they did not owe a duty of care to Kevin prior to birth, citing two 2008 cases in which Ontario judges had determined that a physician does not have a duty of care to a woman's "future children," whether yet conceived or not, but merely to the woman.

Regarding obstetrics, however, the judge in the current case disagreed. "The duty to both mother and fetus in the maternal-fetal care scenario has been long established in Canadian jurisprudence," stated Justice Wolfram Tausendfreund. Continue reading

Planned Parenthood Lies About Abortion Images

Live Action Films captured on video a Planned Parenthood Clinic worker telling a young girl that the on-line abortion images are not real. The video that originally included these medically verified images has been censored by You Tube, but you can see this modified video, with the abortion images obscured. Watch the video.

Abortion 101

Sidewalk Counseling

Sidewalk counseling is for those who are called to share the Love of Christ with those approaching the abortion site, and offer solutions that don’t consist of killing a child. Sidewalk counseling also includes addressing those who are leaving the abortion site and offering them referrals to Post-abortion counseling so they can move towards healing the wounds that abortion imposes. See our Sidewalk Counseling Workshop on-line at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/VigilVolunteerWorkshop .
