NationalCampaign Daily Intention

That knowing theshortness of life, all may value it more deeply.

Remember your Creatorbefore the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitchershattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. Then the dust willreturn to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. —Ecclesiastes12:67

God is giver of all life. Short lived or long lived, human livesare lived out in this world. The metaphors for death are many. But theirmeaning is clear and singular: all will die. Even so, death is not the absoluteend. It is not the end of the story. For as certainly as God gave life, atdeath the life or spirit that God gave returns to God. By God, we are created. For God, we live our given days. To God, we return at the end of our earthlydays. And with God, we live through eternity.

Clearly, all along the way, this gracious, loving God is withus. No human life is random or alone. No human life was created withoutpurpose. Not one human life is without destiny. All human lives, acknowledgedor not, are related to God ‐‐ from beginning, to end, throughout eternity. Therefore, in this world, all human lives are to be respected and protected, for their lives are signs of God’s sovereignty.

Nationwide38 Lives Reported as Saved

While Jackie was praying at the 40 Days for Lifevigil in GREENLAND, NEW HAMPSHIRE, a car slowly pulled up in front of theclinic. The driver rolled down the window and said, "I don't know whatyou're doing here; but whatever it is, it's working!" The driver went onto say the abortion center had let employees go because business was off.

All Jackie could say was, "Praise God forvictories!"

The staff at yet another abortion center hasshrunk by at least one. But this wasn't a layoff. This was a clinic nurse whowalked out and quit! Angela of the 40 Days for Life team in GRANITECITY, ILLINOIS said the abortion facility nurse came out and hugged her."Thank you for praying for me," she told Angela. "Your witnesshas been powerful to me. This is my last day! I'm going off to do what realnurses should be doing." With that, she walked to her car and drove away. This is the SECOND abortion worker to quit duringthis 40 Days for Life campaign! And yes, there are amazing stories to share aboutbabies saved from abortion as well. Thus far in this fall 40 Days for Life campaign,we've received reports of 38 mothers who changed their minds and chose life. And of course, those are just the ones we know of!
Here are just a few of those stories:

In HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, Al reported that while people were praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil across from the abortion center, a man came over with asimple message: "Thank you!" His niece had been scheduled for anabortion. But after seeing the group praying, she simply could not go throughwith it.

In WASHINGTON, DC, Dick tells of a young couple who walked into the PlannedParenthood abortion facility. Volunteers at the 40 Days for Life vigil didn't havemuch time to talk with them on their way in. But after an hour or so, they cameback out. "They said they changed their minds about having anabortion."

InPENSACOLA, FLORIDA, there was another situation in which just the sight ofpeople praying outside made a profound impact. Ernie said an SUV had pulled upto the clinic entrance, where the 40 Days for Life vigil was in progress. Thecouple inside just stopped, took another look, and drove away without evergoing in.

The 40 Days for Life team in EL PASO, TEXASreceived a special blessing. Sandra said a woman drove up to the vigil andwanted to talk about the day she decided not to have an abortion. At the time, she saw her pregnancy as something that would just get in the way of herpromising career. But the day of her appointment, people had beenpraying outside the clinic. When she saw that, she stopped and asked herself,"What am I doing here? This is not right!"As she continued her story, the young woman rolleddown her car window, pointed to the child in the car seat and began to cry."Thanks to you all," she said, "I have this beautiful son!"

"You could imagine the feeling," Sandrasaid. "I believe at that moment everybody was crying with her." Thegroup prayed for the mother, her child and for all her family. "We ask Godto continue blessing them and thank Him for this wonderful gift of life."

Prayer DOES work. And sometimes, you don't have tosay a word. Let's keep itup!

Impressionsof the Sidewalk from two First Time Prayer Volunteers

Ireceived two messages from volunteers today, that I thought were worthsharing. The first was from a reader who has been on ourdistribution list since January 2008.She wrote:

While I havepreviously prayed 1st Saturday rosary at the Reno abortion clinic, I have neverbeen out during the 40 Days for Life.I did my first hour Fridaynight at 10pm as part of Immaculate Conception adopted day.I couldsense such evil!   It was powerful to pray there for the end toabortion and the conversion of the doctor.

Thesecond comes from a team member who has been helping quietly behind the scenes, but hasn’t previously been out to pray at the sidewalk. She wroteto say:

This issue hasbeen close to my heart for a long time, but to be honest, participating invigil Friday has put this front and center in my heart now.   I’mstill really busy with work, but this is an obsession now!

Thisis the response I’ve heard time and time again, so to receive two messages in asingle day, each indicating the same thing comes as no surprise.Iwish there was a way I could bottle the experience and send a copy to each ofyou so you could experience it fully right from the comfort of your livingroom, but this is something you’ll simply need to experience foryourself. For some the emotion is a sense of the heaviness of whatgoes on, for others, there is a profound sense of being with God, as we standin union with Him at this dark corner of our region.

Ibelieve that when we go to the sidewalk and Pray to End Abortion we eachare given a special grace so that we can better address the issue ofabortion.Because we are each called to play our own particularrole in this effort, that grace varies from person to person, and thus theexperience also differs. How is God calling you tohelp? What role are you meant to play?

Butplease remember, it is the prayer and fasting which are the most importantcomponents of our campaign. And if you are unable to get to thesidewalk, your prayer and fasting from afar still has infinite value, as theyare received by God, an all powerful, all loving, all merciful Father.

Sendyour impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

SidewalkCovered Monday by St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral

Weare blessed that parishioners from the St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral have signedup to cover the sidewalk with prayer tomorrow, even through the abortion site isnot expected to be open for business. But a sad observation we havenoticed while at the sidewalk is that more women appear to be returning formultiple visits to complete their abortions. This seems to suggestthat Dr. Stutes is doing late term abortions, at least into the 2ndtrimester.Please pray that these mothers learn the facts of fetaldevelopment so that they will appreciate the life that is growing within andrecognize their responsibility to love and protect their innocent unbornbabies.

VigilVolunteers Needed on Tuesday

40 Days through Scripture

Day6: Mark 1 – 6 (including:  Mark 1:16-20
As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simonand his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they werefishermen. Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make youfishers of men.” Then they left their nets and followedhim. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son ofZebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat, mendingtheir nets. Then he called them. So they left theirfather Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.

This is a time when men and women arebeing called to follow our Lord to participate in bringing abortion to anend.I’ve heard that many have been called, and yet few are chosen. Is it because only a few are answering the call? What have you beencalled to do?How have you replied? NewPush for Legal Definition of 'Person' and to Outlaw Abortion

Someabortion foes think the rationale for Roe vs. Wade is vulnerable. They'retrying to amend state constitutions -- including California's -- to definepersonhood from conception.

[Los Angeles Times, September 28, 2009, By Robin Abcarian] – It is one of the enduring questions of religion and science, and lately ofAmerican politics: When does a fertilized egg become a person? Abortion foes, tired of a profusion of laws that limit but donot abolish abortion, are trying to answer the question in a way that they hopecould put an end to legalized abortion. Across the country, they have revived efforts to amend stateconstitutions to declare that personhood -- and all rights accorded humanbeings -- begins at conception.

From Florida to California, abortion foes are gatheringsignatures, pressing state legislators and raising money to put personhoodmeasures on ballots next year. In Louisiana, a class at a Catholic high schoolis lobbying state legislators as part of a civics exercise.

"We have big and small efforts going on in 30 states rightnow," said Keith Mason, co-founder of Colorado-based Personhood USA."Our goal is to activate the population."Read the fullstory at LATimes.com
