National Campaign Daily Intention

Praise God for His compassion in pardoning our sins and forgiving our transgressions. Give praise that He delights in showing mercy.

Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgressions of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us; and will subdue our iniquities.—Micah 7:18-19

Micah had been sent to declare God’s judgment and call the people of Judah to repentance. The people had become spiritually and ethically corrupt. Prosperity had hardened the rich, the poor were oppressed and the heirs to David’s throne were practicing abominations and idolatry. Is it not easy to see the parallels of God’s people in Micah’s day and God’s people today in America? Through Micah, God corrected His people by demanding justice, not burnt offerings and sacrifice. He told them to love mercy, and to walk humbly with their God. In speaking of the Old Testament stories of God’s people turning from God to sin and idolatry, Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:11, “Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” Many biblical scholars believe God has removed His hedge of protection around our nation in response to our sins of immorality and abortion. Let us cry out in repentance for His mercy once again. And may we honor His faithfulness by doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God

National Campaign News

Your prayers are WORKING!

The National campaign reports on how the campaign is progressing around the country.   Here is an excerpt from today’s update, including an example of how the police have been called by an abortionist in another community.

YOU—and others like you in 212 communities—are praying and fasting for an end to abortion. Is the tide finally turning? I pray that it is! More and more abortion centers seem to be experiencing a decrease in customers. And I have to think the reason is all that intense prayer!

Ann in Toledo, Ohio was surprised when the Center for Choice, the location of Toledo's 40 Days for Life vigil, was closed on Friday, one of the two days each week when abortions are usually scheduled. "It is extremely rare that the center is closed on a Friday unless it's a holiday," she said. "Praise God!"

Kathy in Columbia, Missouri also reports the abortion center where the 40 Days for Life vigil is being held was closed on Saturday. "It is usually open from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm every Saturday," she said, "but no one showed up." The abortionist arrived around 2 o'clock, went inside for five minutes and then left again—and did not seem very pleased when she saw the five people standing in prayerful vigil.

On Thursday, the abortion day in Columbia, eight women arrived for appointments instead of the usual 15 to 20. "We feel this indicates that many are canceling or just not showing up," said Kathy, who notes that the clinic staff is starting to get antsy. As she was leaving the clinic parking lot, the abortionist drove up to Kathy and a priest, who were praying on the sidewalk, and called out, "Didn't the police tell you to stay away from OUR sidewalk?" Kathy politely answered that the sidewalk was public property. The abortionist said people were complaining of harassment when they came in. Kathy responded, "I only give them information when they leave." The abortionist called the police; Kathy called an attorney. A police officer arrived and went inside the clinic to check out the "several complaints" she had received. "Within five minutes the police woman came out said everything was okay and just be careful not to block the sidewalk," Kathy said. "The attorney told me that we had just called their bluff and we won. But the battle continues.

A Challenging Day at the Sidewalk

I’ll let Diane’s words speak for herself, as she says it so well …

Challenging day on the sidewalk.   I had read about the resources available and was thinking as I drove over to the Abortion Mill that I should figure that out to have something to give out should someone want to talk…

Then as we were saying a rosary, a vehicle drove up and a woman (with a man) stopped and "nicely" asked me just how "Abortion Hurts Women."  I had that sign posted on my front windshield.   I was a bit taken back but took a couple steps toward her and explained some of the new research to her… health risks, physical and psychological.   She then went to all the starving children in the world, to overpopulation and how we don't need more… to all the unwanted children… to a woman's right to make her own decisions… I had the poster of the fetus which I pulled out and asked her if she thought this was a child or not… got a statement about it did not having capabilities to think (so therefore wasn't a child?)… she was getting angry.   She admitted she used drugs but it was her right, it didn't involve anyone else. I stayed as calm as I could… my heart was racing.  I told her that with Abortion it did involve someone else… the baby whose life was taken away.  She started to swear at all children in general so I asked her to please leave as children were present… my prayer partner had her granddaughter with her today.  The car sped off.   We really felt tested today.   I thought about how we are called to be "persecuted" as Christians… I guess today we were walking the Christian talk.

One Tuesday we about blew away with gale winds, the next one it rained on us, and today I thought "what a calm and clear day" for a change… and then the "test" arrived!

Are you ready to be tested?   If so, come pray at the sidewalk and see what God has in store for you?   Please, spend an hour or more at the sidewalk tomorrow and send an email telling about your experiences!   Please sign a Statement of Peace on-line and to register for the hours when you’ll be at the sidewalk, go to:  http://www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe.

For those who live closer to Carson City, please consider going to the sidewalk in front of the Tahoe Women’s Care, located on Mica Drive.   To register for your time there, go to: http://www.vigilcalendar.com/carsoncity.   Thank you in advance for your assistance with this effort.   Send your impressions of your time at the sidewalk to renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.

Our website has been undergoing major renovations, due to the assistance of our webmaster, Suzie.   Take at look by going to:   www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe  and don’t miss the Resources section!

Remember, if you have plan to participate as a member of 40 Days for Life, you are asked to follow the law, including those that apply to private property.   Do not enter the property of the abortion site.   If you have not yet signed a Statement of Peace, you can do so now on-line, by going to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace

Wrap-up Rally – Sunday, Nov 1 – 5:00 Shofar, 6:00 Pot Luck Dinner, 7:00 Movie
Mark your calendars for a true celebration, as we honor God for all the graces He has showered upon our campaign, this Fall and since we began this effort in the Fall of 2007.   November 1st is the Catholic All Saints Day feast, the perfect time to join in celebration of all the Saints who have given their lives in service to Our Lord and to Thank Christ for the many graces He has showered on our campaign for the past 40 Days as we have sought to do His will. Ideas being explored as we plan an event you will not want to miss.   River Rock Christian Fellowship, having been recently blessed with a new Church home less than 2 miles from the West End Abortion Site, has graciously offered to allow us to use their facility for a Pot-Luck Dinner and Pro-Life Movie Night.   We will end the 40 Day campaign with the blowing of the shofar at the sidewalk at 5 pm, along with a brief rally of prayer, scripture and sharing, and then we will proceed by car to their church for a pot-luck dinner of Celebration, as we fellowship and share our experiences of the past 40 Days.   Our evening will conclude with a Pro-Life movie.  If you are willing to help, contact us at renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com.   Your assistance and participation are greatly appreciated.   We are looking for help in putting on this event, so please do not be shy, step forward and get involved!

40 Days through Scripture

Day 29 II Corinthians 10 – Galatians 4 (including:  II Corinthians 11:30-33)
If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.   The God and Father of the Lord Jesus knows, he who is blessed forever that I do not lie.   At Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus, in order to seize me, but I was lowered in a basket through a window in the wall and escaped his hands.

National News

A Journey into Dehumanization & the Moral Incoherence of Abortion

[National Right to Life] - "Doing second trimester abortion is clinical care at the boundary between life and death and in the context of political and social controversy, and, likewise, commitment." ~Abortionist Lisa Harris

Over the last few days I have been transfixed by several accounts, each one more eye-opening than the one before, that attempted to do justice (so to speak) to abortionist Lisa Harris' "Second Trimester Abortion Provision: Breaking the Silence and Changing the Discourse." Harris' argument is not merely another tiresome iteration of the pro-abortion dictum that by "claim[ing] abortion"--including its violence--they will "strengthen our movement." As a woman who dismembered huge unborn babies at the very same time she was pregnant, Harris' account offers tragic insights into the human mind, heart, and soul.

The "ideas" for this essay, which appeared in "Reproductive Health Matters," were first presented the "Future of Abortion Conference" held in London in June 2008. Pro-lifers got wind of Harris' argument just recently when Harris posted (I am not kidding) on http://abortioneers.blogspot.com.

Since the entry has since been conveniently excised from the blog, I don't know how much of the original article from "Reproductive Health Matters" was included. Judging by quotes from other sources, it appears Harris, an assistant professor at the University of Michigan, offered more than enough.

No dummy, Harris understands that sawing off hands and arms–especially later in pregnancy–is tough sledding for anyone whose conscience has not been amputated. So Harris' gambit is to first frankly deal with such issues as "personal and psychological considerations" as well as the undeniable violence of abortion (and its seeming incompatibility with what she sees as an essentially non-violent feminist movement). Then she offers "answers" that are not only morally incoherent and circular but also evade the very gut-wrenching red-flags Harris told the reader she would confront.

She accomplishes the latter by trying to create group solidarity by offering to transport them to a kind of Land of Oz for death peddlers, otherwise known as the "middle ground." Needless to say that middle ground is not to distinguish "acceptable" from "unacceptable" abortions, but to explain how "owning" the violence, and the discomfort, and the nightmares makes killing kids at any stage of development not only acceptable but "rewarding."   Read the Rest of this Article On-line

Contraception is Harmful to Women

Contraceptives have long been unhealthy for women, but now, even such pro-choice media outlets as the New York Times are reporting on the fact that even the newer birth control pills have serious health risks  (see: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/26/health/26contracept.html) and condoms, long promoted as a way of reducing the risk of contracting disease, have been found to  increase risky behavior, resulting in an increased risk of exposure (see: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/oct/09101901.html)    As recently as Monday, Oct 19, Cincinnati.com published a piece outlining how women are harmed by the failed contraception / abortion cycle, as well as the poor relationships that use of contraceptives encourages (see: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20091019/EDIT02/910190333/1019/EDIT/Unveiling+the+evils+
