National Campaign Daily Intention
May God’s people awaken to the fact that we are our brothers’ keepers.
Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.”—Genesis 4:810 6
“Methinks he doth protest too much ...”
The Bible is filled with passages that speak to our obligation to care for our fellow human beings. From the many commands in the books of Moses enjoining love of family, neighbors and even strangers, to Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan, the in‐junction to care for others is inescapable. In this account, the guilt‐stricken Cain tries to shrug off his obligation to his own kin by dismissing it as an unreasonable duty. A la Shakespeare, though, “methinks he doth protest too much.” Cain’s objection doesn’t stem from his sense of proper boundaries of responsibility, but from his own self‐centered sense of self‐preservation.
Christ said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). This is the standard of divine love. It required God to sacrifice what was most precious to Him for the temporal and eternal well being of all human‐kind (see John 3:16). Though on a much‐reduced scale, he expects us to do the same.
Trying to duck our obligation to others is futile. We can’t get away with simply dismissing others, especially the most vulnerable among us: the pre‐born, the disabled, the sick and the aged. As with Cain, God sees and hears their suffering and will call us to account for what we do – or do not do – for them.

National Campaign News
Overcoming the Darkness
The National campaign reported several stories of how the tide is turning, including the following:
… It isn't often that anyone from Planned Parenthood agrees to publicly debate abortion; but in Lubbock, Texas, a Planned Parenthood representative agreed to take part in a discussion organized by a group of pro-life medical students at Texas Tech. But once a notice of the event was published in the newspaper, the Planned Parenthood spokesperson backed out, reportedly saying he would be unable to participate in anything related to 40 Days for Life.
"The question is," asked Dan in Lubbock, "if abortion is such a good thing, in their view, why isn't it robustly defensible 24/7?" The answer is simple: They cannot argue the facts. There is no defense for abortion …

Coming Events
- A Vigil of Mourning – Tuesday, Oct 13, 6:00 pm
- On the thirteenth of each month, a group gathers on the sidewalk outside the abortion site to remember the lives that will never be lived, the potential never realized because of the tragedy of abortion. Come join them, dressed in mourning, as they pray for God’s Mercy. You are welcome to bring a large votive candle.
- Pro-Life Solidarity Day – Oct 20, All Day
- [Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust] "The Survivors challenge students of all ages to be bold advocates for the 3,500 preborn who are murdered everyday in our country. You have an opportunity to stand with your fellow classmates and an obligation to be a voice for the voiceless. By standing in united solidarity across the world, students everywhere can identify with the preborn children, and our silence will proclaim 'stop killing our generation!' We can and must be warriors for the preborn!" Read the article from Survivors regarding this day long event.

40 Days through Scripture
- Day 15: John 6 – 9 (including: John 6:16-21)
- When it was evening, his disciples went down to the sea, embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading.
When the world is in turmoil around you, remember the words of Christ, “Do not be afraid.” Draw closer to Jesus, read Scripture, imitate His life, live a life of charity, strive to animate the body of Christ in all you do, and you have nothing to fear, if you are living according to His will.

When is a “Fetus” a Baby?: Twice-Born Macie
[The American Vision] … Technology has no morals. Things are not evil in and of themselves (Col. 2:20–23). What people do with the things of this creation is the determining factor. This is certainly true with power (Matt. 10:25; 2 Cor. 1:24) and wealth (1 Tim. 3:3; 6:10; Heb. 13:5). Technological devices do not come with morality tags attached specifying how they should be used. Two men trained as physicians can use their skills to save a life or end a life.
… In societies that are culturally biased against women, the sonogram can lead to eugenics, genocide and murder. In many parts of the Islamic world, for example, the birth of a daughter can bring extreme financial hardship to a family, and the early knowledge of the existence of a female fetus developing inside the womb has led many a couple to either abort the pregnancy or hide knowledge of the pregnancy until birth, whereupon the baby girl was left on some hillside to die of exposure. …
… Technology is a double-edged sword. As history attests, it can be used for both good and evil. For destroying the lives of preborn babies or for healing them. Here’s a story that shows the positive side of advances in fetal surgery techniques that incorporate sonogram imaging. “Just four months into Keri McCartney’s pregnancy, an ultrasound revealed a tumor growing on the baby’s tailbone the size of a grapefruit—nearly as large as the baby herself—that was stealing the baby’s blood and weakening her heart.” In order to remove the tumor, the six-month preborn baby had to be operated on. … Read the Entire Article.

UN Human Rights Council Backs, Obama Admin Opposes, Backdown on Abortion
[LifeNews] The United Nations Human Rights Council has backed, and the administration of pro-abortion President Barack Obama opposed, a measure seen as backing down on abortion. Pat Buckley, who lobbies for the British pro-life group SPUC sees the measure as a positive development. The United Nations has long had a pro-abortion posture and gone as far as pressuring some nations to legalize or expand abortions. However, the Human Rights Council has backed a Russian resolution promoting traditional values that could be a way for the pro-life movement to advance its perspective on abortion. "In a rare break from its long term strategy of attempting to dictate newly-conceived so called 'rights' on everyone - such as the manufactured 'right to abortion' - the UN Human Rights Council has approved a resolution tabled by the Russian Federation," Buckley explained. Full story at LifeNews.com
This article isn’t the best written piece I’ve seen from LifeNews, but the important piece of news is this, for once, the tide may be turning at the UN, where historically, there has been a strong effort to pressure member countries to accept abortion as a “Human Right”. Now that trend is changing, much to the chagrin of the current USA representatives to the UN.

Lines that Divide: The Great Stem Cell Debate
[Center for Bioethics and Culture Network] Last April [the Center for Bioethics and Culture] reminded you that CBC has been working quietly, but diligently, behind the scenes to produce a film that would expose the truth about the worldwide human cloning agenda. Our documentary, Lines that Divide: The Great Stem Cell Debate is finished! It has been shown at theaters, at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. and now on television all over the country!
After completing a project like this it might be tempting to rest on our laurels. But it is becoming more clear to us that our effort to protect humanity is only beginning. Recent changes in federal policies will increase federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. New York state has given the green light to pay young women up to $10,000 for their eggs to do more human cloning and stem cell research. And the Dickey-Wicker amendment, which has been in effect since 1996, prohibiting federal funding of creating OR destroying embryos is set to expire the end of 2009. This film and the work of the CBC is just at the beginning! Read more here.
If we can organize a showing at UNR, they will send us a free copy of this film. Otherwise, it can be obtained by sending them a $100 donation to their excellent work. My preference would be to arrange to have it screened on campus. Would anyone with ties on campus like to step up and make something happen?
