Count of Days One Day Off – oops!

A few days ago I realized that somewhere along the line I goofed and missed incrementing the count of the day (one too many late night updates).   Well, I apologize for the confusion this may have caused for anyone who is better at counting days than I obviously am.   I will continue the updates for an extra day to ensure that we have the opportunity to complete our scripture readings.   So, while this update is for Day 40, the scripture reading will still reflect Day 39 and I am committing to putting out at least one more update to help wrap up the Spring Campaign.   I hope you can bear with me!

Jericho March to Close the Campaign - 3 pm Sun

Wrapping up at 3 pm Sunday, we will be completing our daily march around the block containing the abortion site in Reno.   This series of daily marches culminates on Sunday, 3/28, at 3 pm, the final day of the Spring 2010 40 Days for Life Campaign, with a march 7 times around the block, for a total of 3 ½ miles of praying that abortion comes to an end in Reno.   Please come, pray, march, cheer on those marching, celebrate a successful campaign brought to completion and the beginning of the End of Abortion in Reno!

Wrap-up Rally – 5:30 pm Sun, Across from 5915 Tyrone Rd, Reno

On Sunday we will follow the final Jericho March with a Rally at 5:30 pm.   Please join us for this family friendly event.   Invite the members of your church by posting a copy of our flyer in your church lobby. Our Wrap Up Rally will be held across from the sidewalk at 5915 Tyrone Rd., Reno (map located at www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/westend )

Lobster Celebration 7:30 pm Sun - Boomtown Buffet

At 7:30 Sunday evening, we will be going to the Boomtown Whole Maine Lobster Buffet, where, for $20 per person, we can celebrate the completion of 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, Constant Vigil and Community Outreach.   If you are unable to join us at the rally, you are still welcome to join us at 7:30 pm at the Boomtown Buffet, located on Highway 80 West towards Truckee, CA as you leave Reno.   Park in the first parking lot on your right, near the Casino Entrance that leads to a walkway under the road and the Buffet is ahead to the left as you enter the Casino.

Cars Continue to Stop and State Support of our Effort

Today, while quiet, was a good day to be at the sidewalk.   We have found that the rate of interest by those passing-by is continuing to increase, with the vast majority of the responses we receive being positive and the number of people who actually stop to comment and commend us for our efforts is increasing on a regular basis.   Sometimes it requires a long time for someone to move from curious to supportive to actually being willing to state their support to ultimately joining us in our effort.   Here’s a report from one of the volunteers who stood in prayer at the sidewalk today, in her own words. …

My daughter and I met [another prayer volunteer] at the clinic this morning and we had many honks and thumbs-ups in affirmation.   Only about 3 negative responses. The clinic appeared to be closed, as there was no activity and no music.   One man in a truck drove over to where we were standing in the dirt area and asked if we had something for him to sign (a petition?), but we explained that we were peacefully praying to protest the clinic and abortion.   He wanted to know if we wanted him to throw a brick through the window and we said NO!, we feel that God wants us to operate peacefully.   We told him he could help by praying.   He said he would and thanked us for our efforts.   He also said he was glad to see a young person out with us.

…It's been a good experience for me and I was glad that my teenage daughter was able to be there a few times with me.   It has made an impact on strengthening her faith.   I would like to get more teens out there.   It might help their faith grow and also help to turn some young girls away from the clinic.

It has been suggested by some that our presence at the sidewalk would bring out those who would do violent & illegal acts against the abortion site and therefore we shouldn’t be out there.   This comment has come from those on both sides of the issue.   But as such a simple testimony from the sidewalk shows, those who are frustrated by just how far our nation has gone on the matter of abortion are already angry, and it is by our presence at the sidewalk, preaching the Love of Christ and the willingness to be peaceful, prayerful and lawful that those with more radical responses are tempered and brought around to a healthier perspective.

Another volunteer at the sidewalk today was heartened by the number of volunteers who also came to pray at the quiet side of the road on a Saturday afternoon & evening.   And again, she encountered two cars stopping to state their support for our efforts, one a couple with two children in the back seat who attend Little Flower Church, live nearby and plan on coming to the site on a regular basis to pray, and the other a political candidate for a Carson City local office who intends to invite his Methodist Church to participate.

She had on hand the flyers which we typically hand out to the women who approach the site to abort their children, so she shared this information with these new supporters.   She also had on hand our “Prayer and Fasting Commitment Brochures” which allow others to know more about the 40 Days for Life campaign.   If you are at the sidewalk, even if you don’t have these resources to share, please request if the person commending you for your presence has an email address to which we can send additional information.   If they are willing to provide it, please forward it to Carol Marie at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com so that she can follow-up with them.   Also, always encourage these supporters to return to the sidewalk to join us in prayer and to invite their church to join us in the effort.   We need every possible prayer partner if we are going to win in this effort.   It is also helpful to have extra copies of the “Statement of Peace” on hand, so if they indicate that they plan to return to pray we can have their commitment to our principles signed and on hand.

When you come to the sidewalk at 5915 Tyrone Rd (for directions, go to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/westend ), please bring some of the referrals to local pregnancy resources that we provide to offer to the women who come to the abortion site.   If you haven’t seen this handout, please download a copy from our website.   There is a link to it located on the team page, or you can go to it directly at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/resources .   These resources provide the women with the opportunity to fully explore their choices before they end up at a dead end.

If you need any brochures to assist the women you meet at the sidewalk choose life or to promote the campaign, please contact Carol Marie at 530-412-1573 or come to the Life Chain event on Sunday to request your copies.

Before you go to the sidewalk to pray and/or sidewalk counsel, please sign our Statement of Peace, located at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/statementofpeace .    Those who participate in 40 Days for Life are asked to commit to being peaceful, prayerful and lawful while we are at the sidewalk.

Excessive and Wasteful Water Usage

The sprinkler system in the front of the property at the abortion site has been brought back into functioning condition.   The Truckee Meadows Water Authority closely monitors the use of water, including the water used on landscapes in the area of the abortion site, located at 5915 Tyrone Road.   According to their website, businesses and residences are to follow the same watering schedule, with odd numbered addresses allowed to water only on the following days – Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.   The use of water is controlled based on a series of rules, Rule 2 addresses the Excessive Use of Water and Water Waste.

See http://www.tmh2o.com/docs/Customer_Services/rules/Rule02_20100217.pdf As can be seen in the definitions here, “Excessive” relative to the application of water means an immoderate or unreasonable consumption which results in: water running into any street, road, parking lot, gutter, drainway, … in a steady stream or flow, or collecting in pools or in a depressed area to a depth of one inch or more or … applying … in a manner contrary to any water conservation regulation, policy, rule, condition, directive, or request that has been issued to the Customers of the public water system or that has been given general public notice by the Authority.

The Truckee Meadows Water Authority website states the following:

Report Water Waste in Your Community

Truckee Meadows Water Authority is serious about preventing water waste. You are the eyes of the community so we need your help. If you see water being wasted, please let us know by filling out the form below. A big part of our success in responding to water waste is very specific information concerning the time, day and location.

If you encounter wasteful use of our precious water resources, please go to:

http://tmh20.com//conservation/assigned_day_watering/report_waste to submit a report.   If possible, take photos of what you encounter, especially as it pertains to water flowing on the street and into the storm drain.   Note that failure to provide adequate information is the primary reason that these reports cannot be followed up with corrective action.

Please Remember to Stay on the Sidewalk or Across the Street

Just a quick reminder that we don’t want to be in the street when we come to pray.   Please stay either on the sidewalk or on the dirt across the street when you come to pray.   We also are not allowed to block vehicles entering or exiting the driveway of the abortion site, nor can we block pedestrians on the sidewalk.   Thank you for your continued cooperation.   If you are asked to move by a police officer, please comply immediately and ask for his name and badge number.   We’d like to keep track of any encounters between those who are volunteering at the sidewalk and the Reno Police department, so please email us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or call us at 530-412-1573.

Have You Encountered Disturbing the Peace or a Noise Nuisance?

Have you been to the sidewalk and been subjected to a noise nuisance while there?   Did you know that the City of Reno has a code that specifically addresses disturbing the peace and public nuisances?

Sec. 8.12.020. - Disturbing the peace.

It is unlawful for any person to commit a breach of the peace. Such breach shall consist of:

  1. Fighting or challenging to fight; or
  2. Conduct or words calculated to provoke violence or a violation of the law by the person to whom the conduct or words are addressed; or
  3. Making annoying, lewd, malicious or threatening telephone calls; or
  4. Willfully and unreasonably subjecting a person or neighborhood to any noise which is likely to disturb the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities.

(Code 1966, § 11.12.090; Ord. No. 5047, § 1, 9-28-99; Ord. No. 5387, § 1, 11-5-02)

And further on in the code regarding Nuisances:

Nuisance or nuisance activity. That which is injurious to health, or injurious, indecent and offensive to the senses, or an obstruction to the free use of property so as to interfere with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property, or is against the interest of public morals, decency, safety, peace and order, including, but not limited to, an attractive nuisance, a nuisance per se, criminal activity, the presence of debris, litter, graffiti, garbage, rubble, abandoned, unregistered or junk vehicles or junk appliances, curfew violations, or any other activity, behavior or conduct defined by the council or Nevada Revised Statutes to constitute a public nuisance. Nuisance or nuisance activity includes unreasonably creating, allowing, or engaging in any activity, conduct or use of property that subjects a person or neighborhood to noise which is likely to disturb the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities. [Reference NRS 268; NRS 268.412; 1997]

Sec. 8.22.035. - Nuisances per se defined.

Any of the following conditions are a nuisance per se as constituting conditions which annoy, injure or endanger the safety, health or comfort of any considerable number of persons:

(1)     An unsafe or dangerous building; …

(25)   Any other condition which creates a blight to adjoining property, the neighborhood or the city, or a nuisance, health, safety or fire hazard identified as such under the conditions set forth in the International Fire Code, International Building Code, Uniform Abatement of Dangerous Buildings Code, Washoe County Solid Waste Management Code, or any other Reno Municipal Code or Washoe County Code or the Nevada Revised Statutes.

While we need to be accountable for our own behavior and ensure that we ourselves do not in any way cross over from prayer and an exercise of our Free Speech to being a public nuisance, we should also be protected from those who seek to disturb our peace or use noise as a nuisance towards us.   The Reno Police Department Non-Emergency number is: 775-334-2677.   I recommend you program it into your cell phone.   If you do contact the police for an incident of Disturbing the Peace or a Noise Nuisance, please also contact us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or 530-412-1573 and let us know how your call was handled.   Please get the name of the officer with whom you spoke, as well as their badge number.   If a report was taken (this is what is required for them to follow-up on the matter) be certain to ask for the case number and provide that to us as well.

Video Cameras Recommended

It has been recommended, and I’d like to encourage you to consider this recommendation, that those coming to the sidewalk bring a video camera when you come to pray.   Place the camera in your car, or on a tripod on the sidewalk, to videotape you while you are standing in prayer.   It is prudent that we have a video record of all that occurs at the sidewalk, as we gather peacefully, prayerfully and lawfully.

444 Babies Saved This Campaign

World-wide, there are a reported 444 babies saved during the current 40 Days for Life campaign.   But better than that, since the 40 Days for Life campaigns started, there have been over 2,550 known lives saved.   At the national level, there are several twins known to have been saved, and even one set of triplets who have been spared from abortion.

If you’re not already getting the daily updates from the National 40 Days for Life campaign, go to our website: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe and sign up to receive updates at the top right corner of the page.   In addition to stories from around the country, there is a daily prayer reflection given each day.

Vigil Calendar

Volunteers Needed Sun 7 am – 1:30 pm

We are on the final day of the Spring 2010 campaign.   We have thus far been finishing with a strong presence at the sidewalk, but we could use your help to cover Sunday morning in prayer.   Please, take some of your personal time in a final show of faithfulness to Our Lord as the Spring 2010 campaign comes to a close!

On the weekend, while we aren’t encountering women on their way into the abortion site, we do have the opportunity to have an impact on those who are driving by on Airway or those who walk past.   Join us as we Pray to End Abortion.

Please register the hours when you can come pray at the sidewalk by going to our on-line calendar at:  www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe. The names of those who sign up on the calendar are hidden from all but a small and select group of volunteers who can assist others in registering their hours on the calendar, so you needn’t fear that you might be harassed by anyone opposed to our prayers, nor do you need to fear that posting your hours is a form of boasting that you are being pious in your prayers.  Signing up simply allows us to coordinate our efforts so we can determine where we have holes in our volunteers efforts, allowing us to best use our time while ensuring we maintain a constant prayer covering at the sidewalk.

While we appreciate having you sign-up in advance, you may simply show-up to pray at the sidewalk at any time of the day or night when you are available to join us.   Your prayers have value well beyond anything we can see and we welcome whatever contribution you can make to the effort as we Pray to End Abortion.   If you haven’t already done so, please sign a Statement of Peace, by going to www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace.

40 Days through Scripture

Day 39 – Revelations 8-15 (including: Revelations 11:16-19)
The twenty-four elders who sat on their thrones before God prostrated themselves and worshipped God and said: “We give thanks to you, Lord God almighty, who are and who were. For you have assumed your great power and have established your reign. The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for the dead to be judged, and to recompense your servants, the prophets, and the holy ones and those who fear your name, the small and the great alike, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple.   There were flashes of lightening, rumblings and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.

Join us as we read the New Testament over the course of the 40 Day campaign.

Gaston County Ends Abortion Coverage on Health Plan

[WCNC Charlotte NC, Gastonia, N.C.] – by Beth Shayne - There was no dissent and little discussion among the all-Republican Gaston County Board of Commissioners as they voted to end coverage of elective abortion for county employees.

"I think if we would have known anytime sooner this would have already been taken out," Commissioner Tracy Philbeck said after the meeting. "I think the citizens I represent in Gaston County do not want their taxpaying dollars to be used towards abortion."

The resolution commissioners unanimously approved authorized the county manager to rollback the county health plan's coverage of abortion "to the fullest extent of the law."

That means that abortions would not be covered except in cases where the mother's life was in danger. Gaston County Human Resources Director Pam Peacock told NewsChannel 36 there is no exception for cases of rape or incest, though County Commission Chairman Mickey Price said after the meeting he believed there was such an exception.

"Whatever we can legally do, that's what we want to do," Philbeck said.    To Read the Entire Article

Coming Events

National Pro-Life T-shirt Week - April 27th-May 3rd

NPLTW is organized by American Life League with the intent to increase awareness of the personhood of the child in the womb and the tragedy of abortion.

Primarily, we are concerned with getting people to think of the child as a person from the moment of his or her biological inception. It is much harder to murder a person than it is to "remove a lump of tissues," and it is only when we finally get the nation thinking in those terms that we will be able to restore the right to life of our preborn brothers and sisters.

Just by wearing the T-shirt and being out there in public, you will help to accomplish that goal!

For more information, go to: National Pro-Life T-shirt Week

Crossroads Walkers Coming to Reno - June 5-6

Watch for details of the next Crossroads Walkers as the once again arrive in Reno on their Pro-Life walking trip across the United States.   I anticipate that they will likely once again stop by the First Saturday Rosary while they are in town.   If you haven’t previously met any of the young people who participate in this 12 week excursion, I encourage you to make a point of getting to know them.   I will hopefully have additional details regarding opportunities to meet with them as their visit comes closer.   For more information on the Crossroads walk, go to their website at: http://www.crossroadswalk.org

Local Campaign News

Reno Less One Save & Other Still at Risk

Yesterday (Thurs), we reported that a family with a situation much like Diego’s from the Spring 2009 campaign was put in touch with the resources necessary to spare the developing child’s life.   Sadly, while we had counted this as a save, we believe that it was this mother who was seen entering the abortion site today, along with what we presume to be her sister-in-law. Please pray for this mother, now that she will have the pain of an abortion to deal with, in addition to the challenges to her marriage.

A third situation was also brought to our attention on Wednesday, and it was again written up in yesterday’s update. The mother who indicated that she was being dragged to Reno from out of town has not been heard from, and we fear that she has not been able to save her child.   Please continue to pray for this young family of a mother engaged to the father of her child and a child who is unwanted by this same father all because they failed to wait until marriage, and now he doesn’t want his peers to know they crossed this line. Why does he not realize that God sees all and he is only compounding the first problem by adding onto it with a second far greater problem, even if it is hidden from mere men.

New Prayer Volunteer Shares Story of Near Abortion through Coercion

A new member of our team of prayer volunteers shared the story of her near miss with abortion after she became pregnant with her third child.   Her husband at the time was unwilling to support the idea of their family growing to include another child and he insisted that she immediately abort, but she managed to resist him, despite his position as an attorney, with all the legal advantages that provided him.   In her own words …

When I became unexpectedly pregnant with my third child, my marriage was already in trouble.   My ex husband insisted on an abortion, and I told him that was something I absolutely could not and would not do.   He threatened to get my other two kids away from me, wage a bitter custody battle, and do everything so that I would not see my other two kids again.

The pressure mounted through the first trimester.   I did not get an abortion, and for almost a year was a part of one of the most bitter custody battles imaginable.   My ex kept reminding me it was all because I refused to listen to him and have an abortion.

He did not leave me alone for 23 years.   I got custody of the kids at first, then when I lost a job several years later, he came after them and got them.   When I finally got the courage to move to the same city he was in (I was pretty afraid of him), he did everything he could to make my life a living hell.   He finally disappeared from my life after my kids did what all the attorneys couldn't do: they threatened him with [ending] their relationship with him if he did not back off.

No one should go through this.   No one should be coerced or pressured into an abortion.   It is a form of domestic violence...violence threatened to the life of a living being.

Bravo to her for having the courage and fortitude to stand strong in the face of such a trial.   We trust that God will greatly bless her when she reaches her final destination!

New Participants Continue to Join the Effort Every Day

Even as the Spring 2010 Campaign draws to a close, we continue to have new people join our effort each day.   Today, a young woman who attends RCF came to the sidewalk after seeing us standing in prayer.   She asked us what we were doing and felt strongly that this is something that God wants her to get involved in doing.   After talking with a prayer volunteer on the scene, she was provided with copies of the information we have on hand to offer the women who approach the site, as well as a brochure we use to invite others to join our effort of Prayer and Fasting.   Before the conversation was over, she shared that the reason our effort is so near and dear to her heart is that she has had 4 abortions, and now has no living children.   She gladly took one of our large “I Regret My Abortion” signs and intends to return, hopefully with her pastor and their congregation as well.

Yesterday we saw more of the same, as a couple stopped a prayer volunteer to thank her for her presence at the sidewalk.   The husband indicated that he drives a large construction vehicle past our vigil on a nearly daily basis.   He was struck by the fact that we are conducting a Jericho March as each time he drives past he honks his horn 7 times, just like the 7 times they went around Jericho on the final day.   This couple attends the Christ Spirit Filled Church in Sparks, which is a strongly Pro-Life congregation.   He intends to invite his pastor to join us on the sidewalk in the future.

Each has been encouraged to bring their pastors to our Wrap-up Rally on Sunday at 5:30, when we would welcome them to address our audience.   If you know a pastor who has words of wisdom to speak on the subject of life, we would welcome them to join us as we Celebrate the completion of 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, Constant Vigil and Community Outreach.

National Campaign News

433 Babies Saved This Campaign

World-wide, there are a reported 433 babies saved during the current 40 Days for Life campaign.

Volunteers Needed Sat 7-10 am & 2-7 pm; & Sun 7 am – 1:30 pm

We are in the final few days of our campaign.   We have thus far been finishing with a strong presence at the sidewalk, but we have real holes in the coverage on Saturday and Sunday.   Please, take some of your personal time over the weekend in a final show of faithfulness to Our Lord as the Spring 2010 campaign comes to a close!

Day 38 – Revelations 1-7 (including: Revelations 4:8-11)
The four living creatures, each of them with six wings, were covered with eyes inside and out.   Day and night they do not stop exclaiming: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was, and who is and who is to come.”

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne and worship him, who lives forever and ever.   They throw down their crowns before the throne, exclaiming:

Worthy are you, Lord our God, to receive Glory and honor and power, for you created all things; because “of your will they came to be and were created.”

Join us as we read the New Testament over the course of the 40 Day campaign.

March for Life Europe to Become a Historical and Significant Pro-Life Event

[LifeNews Brussels, Belgium] –  by Bryan Kemper - I am in a small office right around the corner from the European Union Headquarters with a handful of students who are frantically working to organize the first ever March for Life Europe. These students are all volunteers who have dedicated months of their lives to shine the light of truth and life here in Brussels.

I came with a small team from Stand True and Survivors to speak and work to make this March for Life a success. Our team is out on the streets right now with a high school student from Brussels passing out fliers and posters, talking to the youth in parks and train stations. They are walking up to groups of youth anywhere they can find them, sharing the message of life and inviting them to the March.

We started our journey at the Third Annual Student Pro-life Conference in Scotland where we were able to hear amazing pro-life talks and connect with pro-life youth from around the world. We were present to promote the Survivors Pro-life Summer Camp and the Stand True Summer Mission Trip.

We were so amazed by the passion of these young people and their desire to get more active in pro-life work. They asked tons of questions about how to get things started and how to motivate youth in their hometowns. One of the students who stood out to us was a young German woman called Martina. She comes from an area where there are just a handful of active pro-lifers and wants to desperately to see more action at home. We invited Martina to come to Survivors Camp and the Stand True Mission Trip this summer to get trained and equipped for this work. We are excited that Martina will also be joining us here in Brussels on Sunday.

During some of the meal times we sat and talked with large groups of students, encouraging them to continue to take a stand. I had so many amazing conversations with students and received a bunch of invitations to come and speak around Europe.   To Read the Entire Article

Georgia Senate OKs Bill to Stop Race-Based, Sex-Based, or Coerced Abortions

[LifeNews, Atlanta, GA] –  by Steven Ertelt – The Georgia state Senate today approved a bill that would make it illegal to do an abortion when it is done because a baby is a certain race, gender, or because the mother was coerced into having one. Senator Chip Pearson was the sponsor of SB 529, which cleared the chamber on a 33-14 margin.

The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act would apply to abortion "the same standards of nondiscrimination" that govern employment, education, government and housing, its sponsors say.

The bill provides enforcement of the existing law regarding the Women's Right to Know and it gives women who have been coerced into having an abortion they don't want the opportunity to bring suit against abortionists who violate Georgia law.

Catherine Davis, director of minority outreach at Georgia Right to Life, told LifeNews.com the bill is needed because abortions target black women.

"According to the CDC, of the 38 states that report, Georgia is currently leading the nation in abortions in the black community. African-Americans make up 30% of the population and 59% of the abortions," she said.

"In 2008, according to the Georgia Division of Health, 18,901 abortions were performed on black women. SB 529 seeks to protect these women and their children, from making decisions they did not want to make," Davis added.

Dan Becker, the president of Georgia Right to Life, talked about the importance of the legislation.

"No child should be aborted because of his or her race, sex, or color. If it's wrong to discriminate in the workplace, in housing and in education because of race or sex, it should be wrong to discriminate against a child because she was born the wrong sex," he said.    To Read the Entire Article

Two Reno Saves & Another at Still at Risk

Yesterday (Weds), we reported that one High School couple had returned an aborted their child after having talked with one of our sidewalk counselors, but that another couple had received information and appeared willing to give their child life.   We are happy to report that we have received confirmation that this second couple have committed to life, and are moving forward with the necessary plans to properly care for their child.   But even after they had been given information about the alternatives available to them, and even though yesterday afternoon they used the phone number to contact the resource closest to them, they still returned to the clinic this morning to abort their child.   It was only as they stood at the counter completing the final paperwork, that they changed their minds and decided they couldn’t go through with the procedure that would end the life of their child.   Please know that your prayers are what are needed to soften the hearts of those who are confused by the challenges of being pregnant when they hadn’t planned for a child.   Use your prayers to help them appreciate that they have been given an unexpected blessing for which they will one day Thank God, if they only accept this precious gift.   If the opportunity arises, we will give additional details on how we can come together to help this young family.

Thursday has brought us the happy opportunity to save another child from a lonely and painful death through abortion.   For those who remember last year’s happy story of Diego ( see his photo as he looked when his proud parents brought him to the Wrap-up Rally in the Fall of 2009), this is nearly an exact repeat of how that story began when we met them at the abortion site.   For those who don’t recall, the situation is this.   Thursday this week a mother who came to the abortion site in the evening to handle some last minute paperwork in preparation for Friday morning’s abortion is being intimidated into aborting by her husband because the child is not his.   To further exacerbate the situation, the father’s features are sufficiently different than his that it is likely that the child will not look like either him or the mother.   She wants to keep the child, but she needed to know that there was a way to address the problems that she is facing now that this child is on the way.   I have assured her that the baby isn’t the problem.   There are many issues that we need to deal with, but let’s simply take them, one at a time, and we’ll work them out until we have untied the knot that her life is currently in.   She has an appointment to talk with someone in greater depth and she left happy to know that we are there to help her.   Please keep her, her baby, her husband and her family in prayer.   There are many more details, but all we need to know is that God has the whole story and we need to storm heaven asking Him to assist in this situation, just as He helped with Diego’s parents.

A third situation was also brought to our attention on Weds and it was written up in yesterday’s update.   We were able to find a doctor for this mother who is being pressured to abort, and she apparently made it to her appointment on Thursday morning.   We do not know how things proceeded after that, as she has not been taking the calls of the center employees from her home city who helped her or our calls from here in Reno.   Please pray that her fiancé decides that he loves her and their baby enough to stand by them and protect them.   This is another situation that requires our fervent prayers.

421 Babies Saved This Campaign

World-wide, there are a reported 421 babies saved during the current 40 Days for Life campaign.

Volunteers Needed Fri 7-8 am; Sat 7-10 am & 2-7 pm; & Sun 7 am – 1:30 pm

We are in the final few days of our campaign.   We have thus far been finishing with a strong presence at the sidewalk, but we have real holes in the coverage on Saturday and Sunday.   Please, take some of your personal time over the weekend in a final show of faithfulness to Our Lord as the Spring 2010 campaign comes to a close!

On the weekend, while we aren’t encountering women on their way into the abortion site, we do have the opportunity to have an impact on those who are driving by on Airway or those who walk past.   Join us as we Pray to End Abortion.

Please register the hours when you can come pray at the sidewalk by going to our on-line calendar at:  www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe .

If you haven’t already done so, please sign a Statement of Peace, by going to www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace .

When Pretense Masquerades as Virtue

[Chicago Tribune] –  By Kathleen Parker – … Poor Bart Stupak. The man tried to be a hero for the unborn, and then, when all the power of the moment was in his frail human hands, he dropped the baby.

Now, in the wake of his decision to vote "yes" for a health care bill that expands public funding for abortion, he is vilified and will be forever remembered as the guy who Stupaked health care reform and the pro-life movement.

Of all the disappointed activists, Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote.org and creator of StandWithStupak.com, was perhaps the most demonstrative in his support of pro-life Democrats. He even created a video with a remake of the final battle scene from "Braveheart."

A helmeted British Barack Obama says, "Our cavalry will ride them down like grass. … Full attack!" Whereupon, Stupak, eyeglasses incongruously perched on his blue-painted face, commands his pitchfork army, "Steady. … Hold, hold, hold."

Alas, Stupak couldn't hold.

Ultimately, he was weak and overwhelmed by raw political power. History is no stranger to such moments, but this one needs to be understood for what it was. A deception.

The executive order promising that no federal funds will be used for abortion is utterly useless, and everybody knows it. First, the president can revoke it as quickly as he signs it.   To Read the Entire Article

One Lost, One Possibly Saved and Another at Risk

Yesterday we reported on a young High School couple who took a long time to talk with one of our prayer volunteers.   We are sad to report that they were seen this afternoon both entering and then several hours later, obviously post-abortive, leaving the site.   Please keep this young couple in prayer.   The saddest element with these teens is that the young father was doing what he mistakenly believed to be the best thing to protect his young family.   Pray that when he realizes his error that he will also come to know Christ and the forgiveness that can only come through Our Lord Jesus Christ, so that he can quickly learn to live with the reality of what he has chosen for his child and the woman he claims to love.

On Weds, another young High School couple left the abortion site, with the young woman in tears, but obviously not post-abortive.   They also spent a long time talking to our Prayer volunteers, two of whom stepped forward to help them understand the facts of abortion and the reality that we will be there to help.   Please pray for this young couple, that they will follow-through with their commitment to give life to their young child.   The prayer volunteers who talked with them believe that they are prepared to keep their child and they have been offered numbers to call, any time of the day or night.   Please Pray, a life may depend on it.

A third situation was also brought to our attention on Weds.   After reading our website, a mother contacted us, she is engaged to a Muslim man and has found that her Norplant contraception failed, leaving her now 12 weeks pregnant.   Her fiancé has insisted that she must have an abortion as his understanding of the Koran is that it is very clear that being pregnant before being married is not permitted and therefore an abortion is necessary.   (It is our understanding that this is a poor understanding of the Koran, where the prescription is against the relations that have resulted in the conception of this child.   The Koran also condemns abortion.)   She is scheduled to come to Reno from out of town to obtain an abortion on Friday.

She, in the meantime, doesn’t want an abortion; she seriously desires to keep her child.   She also has a history of post-partum medical difficulties, and she fears that this is most likely her last pregnancy (she is already the mother of three children).   She has already tried to find a pro-life doctor in her home town who was willing to help her fiancé appreciate that an abortion could trigger some of the medical issues she encountered previously while delivering, and could result in harm to her health as well as possibly resulting in her not being capable of carrying another child afterwards.   Please pray that through the resources to which we have referred her that a doctor can confirm for her that these fears are well founded in the medical facts of her case and that her fiancé will follow through with his promise to support her in bringing their child to term if provided with evidence of this being true.

If this is not possible, please pray that God gives her the courage to do whatever is necessary to protect her child and to live according to her conscience.

This is the final week of the campaign.   We have thus far been finishing with a strong presence at the sidewalk, but we have real holes in the coverage on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.   Please, come before going to work in the morning, at your lunch hour and again after work, as a final show of faithfulness to Our Lord as the Spring 2010 campaign comes to a close!

Typically the business of selling death is busiest in Reno on Weds through Friday.   Won’t you please commit to pray at the sidewalk for an hour on these days?

On the weekend, while we aren’t encountering women on their way into the abortion site, we do have the opportunity to have an impact on those who are driving by on Airway or those who walk past.   Please come to the sidewalk and assist us in covering the sidewalk with prayer, 7 days per week for 40 Days, as we Pray to End Abortion.

Please register the hours when you can come pray at the sidewalk by going to our on-line calendar at:  www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe .

40 Days through Scripture

Day 36 - I Peter 1 – I John 1 (including:  I Peter 4:12-19)
Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you.   But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.   If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.   But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer.   But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name.   For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, how will it end for those who fail to obey the gospel of God?

“And if the righteous one is barely saved, where will the godless and the sinner appear?” As a result, those who suffer in accord with God’s will hand their souls over to a faithful creator as they do good.

National News

The Aftermath of the ObamaCare Vote

[National Right to Life, Washington DC] –  By Dave Andrusko – You almost have to smile (to keep from crying).   After figuratively parading across the stage, crowing about enactment of ObamaCare yesterday, today quietly and out of sight "President Obama makes good on a promise to anti-abortion Democrats Wednesday, signing an executive order in the afternoon stating that no funds from the health care overhaul may be used to finance abortions," according to the New York Times.

Of course, Obama did nothing of the sort. Pretending that he has is part of the ongoing disinformation campaign intended to sell a measure that is widely distrusted by many Americans, including all pro-life Americans.

Pro-life PACs are not fooled. As you will read at the end of Part One and in Parts Two and Three, they are rescinding their support for formerly pro-life Democrats and/or are promising to work against their re-elections.

You would expect the Times, the pro-abortion newspaper of record, to serve as a megaphone for the malarkey of a pro-abortion Administration and a Congress led by powerful pro-abortion figures such as Senate Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi. What escapes pro-lifers is that some erstwhile pro-life Democrats profess to believe that Obama's executive order makes everything hunky dory. Neither the man--Obama--nor legal precedent in anyway support such a rosy conclusion. In fact, just the opposite.

Obama is joined at the hip to the Abortion Lobby. He is going to vigilantly scan the horizon to ensure that no federal money is smuggled into the hands of Planned Parenthood? Please.

Planned Parenthood surely gets it: "Thanks to supporters like you, we were able to keep the Stupak abortion ban out of the final legislation and President Obama did not include the Stupak language in his Executive Order." [www.ppaction.org/network/hcr10fvng?source=hcr10fv_pphp]

And, of course, if there was anything to it--which there isn't--Obama could revoke the executive order at the drop of a hat. But even a minute and a half's reflection makes it clear that the executive order won't or can't change a thing.

During the weekend debate Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wi.) warned that his fellow members of the House "should not be fooled." He explained, "If an executive order moves the abortion funding in this bill away from where it is now, it will be struck down as unconstitutional because executive orders cannot constitutionally do that."   To Continue Reading

Priests for Life Call to Prayer to End Abortion

Priests for Life invites every Christian to say the referenced prayer each day for an end to abortion.

The prayer emphasizes our personal commitment to speak and act on behalf of the unborn child. Rather than simply asking God to do something, it acknowledges that God wants to accomplish His will through us.

After the prayer is an opportunity to sign up with this campaign, to indicate that you are going to say the prayer each day, and also to pledge other forms of prayer you can offer for an end to abortion.   Sign up here .
