Saved Baby Saved Again
Today was a very special day for a very special girl. Last year we learned that a young couple had opted to choose life for their child after seeing signs held by Richard, one of the most faithful volunteers at the sidewalk of the abortion site. They had waited until their daughter, Jules, was 9 months old before coming to the sidewalk in search of Richard to thank him for the role he played in encouraging them to accept their most precious gift.
When they had entered the abortion site to explore their options and view an ultrasound of their child, the young father had a vague belief in God, by the mother had no specific understanding of any divine reality. The ironic thing is that it was seeing the word “God” on one of the signs held by Richard that spoke to their hearts and caused them to commit to choosing life. That first step towards accepting this beautiful gift from God has opened them up to the eternal gift of accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts and into their lives. They now have accepted him as the Lord and Savior of their family. Today, in keeping with this recognition of the Kingship of Christ in their lives, their daughter was adopted into the family of the God.
Just as the Jewish son is brought into the covenant of the family of God on the eighth day at the request of his parents, so this child is being brought into a covenantal relationship with God through the intercession of her parents and she today she was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Praise be to God, she was once saved into this Life and now she is being saved into eternal life.
You too can play a role in saving a child through your prayers. When you come to the sidewalk at 5915 Tyrone Rd (for directions, go to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/westend), please bring some of the referrals to local pregnancy resources that we provide to offer to the women who come to the abortion site. If you haven’t seen this handout, please download a copy from our website. There is a link to it located on the team page, or you can go to it directly at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/resources. These resources provide the women with the opportunity to fully explore their choices before they end up at a dead end.
If you need any brochures to assist the women you meet at the sidewalk choose life or to promote the campaign, please contact Carol Marie at 530-412-1573 or come to the Life Chain event on Sunday to request your copies.
Before you go to the sidewalk to pray and/or sidewalk counsel, please sign our Statement of Peace, located at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/statementofpeace. Those who participate in 40 Days for Life are asked to commit to being peaceful, prayerful and lawful while we are at the sidewalk.
Please Remember to Stay on the Sidewalk or Across the Street
Just a quick reminder that we don’t want to be in the street when we come to pray. Please stay either on the sidewalk or on the dirt across the street when you come to pray. We also are not allowed to block vehicles entering or exiting the driveway of the abortion site, nor can we block pedestrians on the sidewalk. Thank you for your continued cooperation. If you are asked to move by a police officer, please comply immediately and ask for his name and badge number. We’d like to keep track of any encounters between those who are volunteering at the sidewalk and the Reno Police department, so please email us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or call us at 530-412-1573.
Have You Encountered Disturbing the Peace or a Noise Nuisance?
Have you been to the sidewalk and been subjected to a noise nuisance while there? Did you know that the City of Reno has a code that specifically addresses disturbing the peace and public nuisances?
Sec. 8.12.020. - Disturbing the peace.
It is unlawful for any person to commit a breach of the peace. Such breach shall consist of:
- Fighting or challenging to fight; or
- Conduct or words calculated to provoke violence or a violation of the law by the person to whom the conduct or words are addressed; or
- Making annoying, lewd, malicious or threatening telephone calls; or
- Willfully and unreasonably subjecting a person or neighborhood to any noise which is likely to disturb the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities.
(Code 1966, § 11.12.090; Ord. No. 5047, § 1, 9-28-99; Ord. No. 5387, § 1, 11-5-02)
And further on in the code regarding Nuisances:
Nuisance or nuisance activity. That which is injurious to health, or injurious, indecent and offensive to the senses, or an obstruction to the free use of property so as to interfere with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property, or is against the interest of public morals, decency, safety, peace and order, including, but not limited to, an attractive nuisance, a nuisance per se, criminal activity, the presence of debris, litter, graffiti, garbage, rubble, abandoned, unregistered or junk vehicles or junk appliances, curfew violations, or any other activity, behavior or conduct defined by the council or Nevada Revised Statutes to constitute a public nuisance. Nuisance or nuisance activity includes unreasonably creating, allowing, or engaging in any activity, conduct or use of property that subjects a person or neighborhood to noise which is likely to disturb the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities. [Reference NRS 268; NRS 268.412; 1997]
Sec. 8.22.035. - Nuisances per se defined.
Any of the following conditions are a nuisance per se as constituting conditions which annoy, injure or endanger the safety, health or comfort of any considerable number of persons:
(1) An unsafe or dangerous building; …
(25) Any other condition which creates a blight to adjoining property, the neighborhood or the city, or a nuisance, health, safety or fire hazard identified as such under the conditions set forth in the International Fire Code, International Building Code, Uniform Abatement of Dangerous Buildings Code, Washoe County Solid Waste Management Code, or any other Reno Municipal Code or Washoe County Code or the Nevada Revised Statutes.
While we need to be accountable for our own behavior and ensure that we ourselves do not in any way cross over from prayer and an exercise of our Free Speech to being a public nuisance, we should also be protected from those who seek to disturb our peace or use noise as a nuisance towards us. The Reno Police Department Non-Emergency number is: 775-334-2677. I recommend you program it into your cell phone. If you do contact the police for an incident of Disturbing the Peace or a Noise Nuisance, please also contact us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or 530-412-1573 and let us know how your call was handled. Please get the name of the officer with whom you spoke, as well as their badge number. If a report was taken (this is what is required for them to follow-up on the matter) be certain to ask for the case number and provide that to us as well.
Come Join Life Chain
Please Join us this Sunday at the Life Chain Event. We will be standing at South McCarran & South Virginia, holding signs which encourage our community to consider the truth that “Abortion Kills Children.” We will be standing at this crossroads from 2 – 3:30 and all are welcome to participate in this peaceful, prayerful, lawful event. If you believe you’ll be able to join us, you can RSVP through our Facebook Event, located at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=339511168591&index=1
Life Chain started as a gift from God to a small ministry in Yuba City, CA in 1987 and in 2009 over 1700 locations held a Life Chain event. This non-denominational Christian effort is for those who call Jesus Christ Lord, and are willing to declare abortion a grave evil that defames the name and holiness of God (Leviticus 18:21). For more information on Life Chain, call Elizabeth Labat at: 504-296-8670
Please Ask Your Church to Adopt A Day at the Sidewalk
Thus far, our campaign success in maintaining a nearly constant vigil at the sidewalk has been possible because people like you have stepped up and requested that their pastors support Adopt a Day through their church. The vast majority of the churches that have stepped up to this challenge have been Catholic, but this campaign is by no means a Catholic endeavor. The national director of 40 Days for Life is not Catholic, and many of the campaigns around the country are led by non-Catholic Christians. Many of our local regular prayer volunteers are themselves not Catholic and we would like to see our campaign better reflect the entire body of Christ as we Pray to End Abortion. Won’t you please approach your pastor and request that your congregation join on the sidewalk to defend the most innocent and defenseless children be protected from abortion?
What we have found is that those who come to the sidewalk grow in the depth of their relationship to Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Being there where the killings are done also creates a sense of just how serious this issue is and increases the intensity of the prayers that it will soon come to an end. These are the spiritual benefits of participating in this campaign at the frontlines, not to mention the benefits that occur when a mother sees those who love her child enough to come out of their comfort zone to plead for the innocent life. We can’t save every child that is brought to the abortion site, but on occasion, we see the fruit of our labors, through an innocent life saved. Won’t you come to Pray to End Abortion?
Video Cameras Recommended
It has been recommended, and I’d like to encourage you to consider this recommendation, that those coming to the sidewalk bring a video camera when you come to pray. Place the camera in your car, or on a tripod on the sidewalk, to videotape you while you are standing in prayer. It is prudent that we have a video record of all that occurs at the sidewalk, as we gather peacefully, prayerfully and lawfully.

295 Babies Saved!
World-wide, there are a reported 295 babies saved during the current campaign. The incredible thing is that we know from local experience that there are saves that aren’t reported to the sidewalk, sometimes for years afterwards, and sometimes they are never reported to those who come to pray and council the women entering the abortion site. Praise God for all those who are saved from abortion and the women who are spared the trauma! Praise God also for those who have been brought to the healing of Our Lord Jesus Christ through the witness provided at the sidewalk.

Sun – Mar 21 | Bishop Manogue High School | Matt Schambari | (775) 336-6000 |
Bring Adopt-a-Day to your church by contacting us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or by calling Carol Marie at (530) 412-1573. We will schedule your church for a day at the sidewalk.
Volunteers Needed Sun 7-8 am, 11:30-5 pm, 5:30 – 7 pm; Mon 7-8 am & 5-7 pm; & Tues 7-8 am, & 5-7 pm
On the weekends, while we aren’t encountering women on their way into the abortion site, we do have the opportunity to have an impact on those who are driving by on Airway or those who walk past. Please come to the sidewalk and assist us in covering the sidewalk with prayer, 7 days per week for 40 Days, as we Pray to End Abortion.
Which hour during the week can you cover with prayer? We especially need you to stop by the sidewalk before going to work. This would give you the opportunity to be present when the doctor and his staff arrive for their day of work. We would like them to see that we are praying for them as their day begins.
Perhaps you can take an early lunch and come to the sidewalk at 11 am, staying to pray for an hour. Or would you be able to swing by at the end of the work day to pray from 4-7 pm? We like to continue our prayers at the sidewalk even after the doctor and his staff have left for the day. If the weather turns, praying from your car still provides the spiritual benefit to the site, but seeing a prayer volunteer standing in inclement weather has turned more than one person from abortion or from participating in the industry, as they see the strength of our commitment. Help us maintain a constant vigil for 12 hours of the day, from 7 am until 7 pm daily. Please register using our online calendar, so we can be certain that the sidewalk is covered in constant prayer.
The business of selling death is typically busiest in Reno on Weds through Friday. Won’t you please commit to pray at the sidewalk for an hour on these days to assist us in filling the schedule?
Please register the hours when you can come pray at the sidewalk by going to our on-line calendar at: www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe. The names of those who sign up on the calendar are hidden from all but a small and select group of volunteers who can assist others in registering their hours on the calendar, so you needn’t fear that you might be harassed by anyone opposed to our prayers, nor do you need to fear that posting your hours is a form of boasting that you are being pious in your prayers. Signing up simply allows us to coordinate our efforts so we can determine where we have holes in our volunteers efforts, allowing us to best use our time while ensuring we maintain a constant prayer covering at the sidewalk.
You are welcome to sign-up or simply show-up to pray at the sidewalk at any time of the day or night when you are available to join us. Your prayers have value well beyond anything we can see and we welcome whatever contribution you can make to the effort as we Pray to End Abortion. If you haven’t already done so, please sign a Statement of Peace, by going to www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace.
40 Days through Scripture
- Day 26 - 1 Corinthians 2 - 9 (including: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20)
- “Everything is lawful for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful for me,” but I will not let myself be dominated by anything. “Food for the stomach, and the stomach for food,” but God will do away with both the one and the other. The body, however, is not for immorality, but for the Lord and the Lord is for the body; God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take Christ’s members and make them the members of a prostitute? Of course not! [Or] do you not know that anyone who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For “the two,” it says, “will become one flesh.” But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Avoid immorality. Every other body, but the immoral person sins against his own body. Do you know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.
What did the Church Fathers Say?
The first verse, 1 Cor 6:12, was addressed in the 2nd century by Irenaeus of Lyon in his book “Against Heresies”
Irenaeus of Lyons [120-180 AD]
Adversus Haereses (Book IV, Chapter 37)
4. No doubt, if anyone is unwilling to follow the Gospel itself, it is in his power [to reject it], but it is not expedient. For it is in man's power to disobey God, and to forfeit what is good; but [such conduct] brings no small amount of injury and mischief. And on this account Paul says, "All things are lawful to me, but all things are not expedient;" referring both to the liberty of man, in which respect "all things are lawful," God exercising no compulsion in regard to him; and [by the expression] "not expedient" pointing out that we "should not use our liberty as a cloak of maliciousness,. for this is not expedient. And again he says, "Speak ye every man truth with his neighbor." And, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor scurrility, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks." And, honestly as children of the light, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in anger and jealousy. And such were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified in the name of our Lord." If then it were not in our power to do or not to do these things, what reason had the apostle, and much more the Lord Himself, to give us counsel to do some things, and to abstain from others? But because man is possessed of free will from the beginning, and God is possessed of free will, in whose likeness man was created, advice is always given to him to keep fast the good, which thing is done by means of obedience to God.
While our free will provides us the opportunity to do many things, all things are not equal, and following the ways of the Lord leads to our ultimate happiness. And nowhere is this more evident than in matters of sexual purity. We have not grown beyond the reality of this call to holiness. If we, as a culture, were to follow the teachings of Our Lord, there would be no need for a prayerful presence at 5915 Tyrone Rd, for the business located at this address would bear no resemblance to the abortion site that currently operates there. Please pray for a return to sexual purity through-out our society, the solution that will truly bring forth happiness for all involved.

Pregnancy Centers Enjoy Historic Victory in Virginia Legislature
[Christian Newswire, LANSDOWNE, VA] – In just a few short weeks, pregnancy centers in Virginia have witnessed an historic victory in the 2010 state legislature. At the beginning of the session, abortion advocates launched an attack on these faith-based charities. The attacks consisted of an erroneous and biased report and discriminatory and unnecessary regulatory legislation. Less than two months later, not only had the hostile legislation been thrown out by its own sponsors, the entire legislature passed a resolution praising the work of Virginia pregnancy centers.
In the words of the Virginia Family Foundation, "What a difference a few weeks -- and the truth -- makes."
Just one week after the legislation against pregnancy centers was introduced, it was dismissed in both House and Senate subcommittees after legislators heard testimony from pregnancy centers directors, former center clients, medical staff, Care Net, the Family Foundation and Virginia Catholic Conference. A few weeks later, pregnancy centers held a day at the state capitol where staff and volunteers came to further educate legislators about their organizations' work. Thanks to the ongoing support of the Family Foundation and Americans United for Life, a resolution praising pregnancy centers was introduced in March and passed in both the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate this week. Urgent: Health Care Reform Action
[National Committee for a Human Life Amendment] Votes could occur on health care reform legislation at any time in either House or Senate. It is difficult to predict exactly how Congress will proceed or how the abortion funding question and the other issues of essential priority to the bishops will be handled.
It is very important that the language in the House-passed bill preventing abortion funding-the Stupak-Pitts Amendment-be incorporated in its essential features as a part of any final bill.
The USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) has re-issued its health care reform Bulletin Insert/Action Alert (www.usccb.org/healthcare/UPDATED-bulletin-insert.pdf) and NCHLA has updated its Action Alert (www.nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=279). Both alerts urge the same actions with the same messages. Both alerts direct people to NCHLA’s Grassroots Action Center to send e-mails. Please also pass this information on to your contact lists.
