Pray for High School Teen with Weds AM Appt
Today, several of our prayer volunteers were at the sidewalk when a young couple, in their Senior year of High School parked at the sidewalk and walked into the abortion facility. On their way in, one of our most gentle volunteers approached them, looked lovingly into the young ladies eyes and let her know that she has options, that there are other options available for her. She got a mere shrug from the young mother as she and her boyfriend continued into the site. Shortly after, they walked back out and this time another of our prayer volunteers, who is herself post abortive, approached them as she was about to get into the car. The young woman willingly stood and had a long conversation with our volunteer as she learned more about abortion and the life changing regret that follows such a decision. This young couple stayed, the young man already seated in the driver’s seat, his girl friend, the mother of his child, stood at the open passenger’s door, making no move to get into the car as she conversed with our volunteer.
Sadly, the young man reflects a mistaken understanding of his role to protect his child. He has a strong desire to do the right thing, and he earnestly wants to ensure that his child not go through the pain of rejection that he sees in friends and family members who are in the Foster Care system. He mistakenly believes that a child would be better off suffering the relatively quick pain of an abortion as compared to the long term emotional pain of abandonment that he feels would accompany the child if adopted out. He was also under the illusion that at 8 weeks, which their child is, that the infant 1.) is not yet alive and 2.) was incapable of feeling any of the pain associated with an abortion. He also stated that he didn’t want to see his girlfriend go through the pain of being pregnant for 9 months, as she has already been suffering with morning sickness. These fallacies were corrected with love for those listening, so they might not make an uninformed decision that cannot be undone.
Our prayer volunteer was able to share her own family experience with teen pregnancy, for she was also a Senior in High School when she found herself pregnant and then aborted her son. Her sister, several years later, also became pregnant during her senior year and rather than aborting her child, she lived with a family out of state while she was pregnant, gave her child to an adoptive family and returned to school in time to walk in her graduation ceremony with her peers. She now knows her first daughter, was able to attend her wedding and has a relationship with her first grandchild. The third story from this family on the subject of teen pregnancy relates to our volunteer’s niece, the youngest daughter of her sister, who also found herself pregnant in her High School Sr. year. She made a different choice than either her mother or her aunt. She and her boyfriend, now fiancé, chose to give their child life and raise him together. Of these three women, the only one who is left with regrets and the loss of a child is the one who chose to abort the child she will never meet, our volunteer.
Even though this young mother, met at the sidewalk on Tuesday, is herself adopted, she is uncertain that adoption is the best option for her child, and she feels she is too young to raise a child. She is currently scheduled to return to the facility for an abortion on Wednesday morning. Please pray for this young couple that they will use the resources provided to them, that they will call the Reno Crisis Pregnancy Center or our volunteer who willingly offered to talk to them at any time, even if they choose to abort their child, because if they do abort, they will need the love and support of those who have been there. Your prayers are needed, even if you read this after Wednesday morning, for it is through the grace of God that their child will be spared, and God is outside of time, so please, pray, right now.
Also, if you have the opportunity to help those who buy into the lies sold by the culture of death, it is your responsibility as a Christian to reach out and bring light into the world. Far too many have the mistaken impression that abortion is in some way a loving compassionate choice for a child who’s parents feel unprepared to provide a healthy home. This thinking fails to appreciate the special, sacred nature of being human, that we have been created in the image and likeness of God himself, that God alone gives life and that it must be God alone to take life. Please pray that these fundamental truths be realized by more people every day, so that our culture can return to an appreciation for Life as the first of our Constitutional Rights, without which none of the others matter. This young mother, herself adopted, is nearly done with High School and intends on going to college. She is in a relationship with a young man who appears to love her deeply and she has experienced this love in her life. These experiences of love and growth and her continued potential as she begins to move into her adult life would not exist without life. She would not have the potential to come to know, love and serve Christ if she had been aborted from her mother’s womb.
When you come to the sidewalk at 5915 Tyrone Rd (for directions, go to: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/westend ), please bring some of the referrals to local pregnancy resources that we provide to offer to the women who come to the abortion site. If you haven’t seen this handout, please download a copy from our website. There is a link to it located on the team page, or you can go to it directly at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/resources . These resources provide the women with the opportunity to fully explore their choices before they end up at a dead end.
If you need any brochures to assist the women you meet at the sidewalk choose life or to promote the campaign, please contact Carol Marie at 530-412-1573 or come to the Life Chain event on Sunday to request your copies.
Before you go to the sidewalk to pray and/or sidewalk counsel, please sign our Statement of Peace, located at: www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/statementofpeace . Those who participate in 40 Days for Life are asked to commit to being peaceful, prayerful and lawful while we are at the sidewalk.
Excessive and Wasteful Water Usage
The sprinkler system in the front of the property at the abortion site has been brought back into functioning condition. The Truckee Meadows Water Authority closely monitors the use of water, including the water used on landscapes in the area of the abortion site, located at 5915 Tyrone Road. According to their website, businesses and residences are to follow the same watering schedule, with odd numbered addresses allowed to water only on the following days – Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The use of water is controlled based on a series of rules, Rule 2 addresses the Excessive Use of Water and Water Waste.
See http://www.tmh2o.com/docs/Customer_Services/rules/Rule02_20100217.pdf As can be seen in the definitions here, “Excessive” relative to the application of water means an immoderate or unreasonable consumption which results in: water running into any street, road, parking lot, gutter, drainway, … in a steady stream or flow, or collecting in pools or in a depressed area to a depth of one inch or more or … applying … in a manner contrary to any water conservation regulation, policy, rule, condition, directive, or request that has been issued to the Customers of the public water system or that has been given general public notice by the Authority.
The Truckee Meadows Water Authority website states the following:
Report Water Waste in Your Community
Truckee Meadows Water Authority is serious about preventing water waste. You are the eyes of the community so we need your help. If you see water being wasted, please let us know by filling out the form below. A big part of our success in responding to water waste is very specific information concerning the time, day and location.
If you encounter wasteful use of our precious water resources, please go to:
http://tmh20.com//conservation/assigned_day_watering/report_waste to submit a report. If possible, take photos of what you encounter, especially as it pertains to water flowing on the street and into the storm drain. Note that failure to provide adequate information is the primary reason that these reports cannot be followed up with corrective action.
Please Remember to Stay on the Sidewalk or Across the Street
Just a quick reminder that we don’t want to be in the street when we come to pray. Please stay either on the sidewalk or on the dirt across the street when you come to pray. We also are not allowed to block vehicles entering or exiting the driveway of the abortion site, nor can we block pedestrians on the sidewalk. Thank you for your continued cooperation. If you are asked to move by a police officer, please comply immediately and ask for his name and badge number. We’d like to keep track of any encounters between those who are volunteering at the sidewalk and the Reno Police department, so please email us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or call us at 530-412-1573.
Have You Encountered Disturbing the Peace or a Noise Nuisance?
Have you been to the sidewalk and been subjected to a noise nuisance while there? Did you know that the City of Reno has a code that specifically addresses disturbing the peace and public nuisances?
Sec. 8.12.020. - Disturbing the peace.
It is unlawful for any person to commit a breach of the peace. Such breach shall consist of:
- Fighting or challenging to fight; or
- Conduct or words calculated to provoke violence or a violation of the law by the person to whom the conduct or words are addressed; or
- Making annoying, lewd, malicious or threatening telephone calls; or
- Willfully and unreasonably subjecting a person or neighborhood to any noise which is likely to disturb the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities.
(Code 1966, § 11.12.090; Ord. No. 5047, § 1, 9-28-99; Ord. No. 5387, § 1, 11-5-02)
And further on in the code regarding Nuisances:
Nuisance or nuisance activity. That which is injurious to health, or injurious, indecent and offensive to the senses, or an obstruction to the free use of property so as to interfere with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property, or is against the interest of public morals, decency, safety, peace and order, including, but not limited to, an attractive nuisance, a nuisance per se, criminal activity, the presence of debris, litter, graffiti, garbage, rubble, abandoned, unregistered or junk vehicles or junk appliances, curfew violations, or any other activity, behavior or conduct defined by the council or Nevada Revised Statutes to constitute a public nuisance. Nuisance or nuisance activity includes unreasonably creating, allowing, or engaging in any activity, conduct or use of property that subjects a person or neighborhood to noise which is likely to disturb the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities. [Reference NRS 268; NRS 268.412; 1997]
Sec. 8.22.035. - Nuisances per se defined.
Any of the following conditions are a nuisance per se as constituting conditions which annoy, injure or endanger the safety, health or comfort of any considerable number of persons:
(1) An unsafe or dangerous building; …
(25) Any other condition which creates a blight to adjoining property, the neighborhood or the city, or a nuisance, health, safety or fire hazard identified as such under the conditions set forth in the International Fire Code, International Building Code, Uniform Abatement of Dangerous Buildings Code, Washoe County Solid Waste Management Code, or any other Reno Municipal Code or Washoe County Code or the Nevada Revised Statutes.
While we need to be accountable for our own behavior and ensure that we ourselves do not in any way cross over from prayer and an exercise of our Free Speech to being a public nuisance, we should also be protected from those who seek to disturb our peace or use noise as a nuisance towards us. The Reno Police Department Non-Emergency number is: 775-334-2677. I recommend you program it into your cell phone. If you do contact the police for an incident of Disturbing the Peace or a Noise Nuisance, please also contact us at 40DaysforLifeRenoTahoe@gmail.com or 530-412-1573 and let us know how your call was handled. Please get the name of the officer with whom you spoke, as well as their badge number. If a report was taken (this is what is required for them to follow-up on the matter) be certain to ask for the case number and provide that to us as well.
Video Cameras Recommended
It has been recommended, and I’d like to encourage you to consider this recommendation, that those coming to the sidewalk bring a video camera when you come to pray. Place the camera in your car, or on a tripod on the sidewalk, to videotape you while you are standing in prayer. It is prudent that we have a video record of all that occurs at the sidewalk, as we gather peacefully, prayerfully and lawfully.

395 Babies Saved This Campaign
World-wide, there are a reported 395 babies saved during the current 40 Days for Life campaign. But better than that, since the 40 Days for Life campaigns started, there have been over 2,536 known lives saved. At the national level, there are several twins known to have been saved, and even one set of triplets who have been spared from abortion.

In addition to stories from around the country, there is a daily prayer reflection given each day.
Vigil Calendar
Volunteers Needed Weds 7-8 am & 1-1:3 pm; Thurs 7-8 am & 2-7 pm; & Fri 7-8 am
This is the final week of the campaign. Let’s finish with a strong presence at the sidewalk. Please, come before going to work in the morning, at your lunch hour and again after work, as a final show of faithfulness to Our Lord as the Spring 2010 campaign comes to a close!
Typically the business of selling death is busiest in Reno on Weds through Friday. Won’t you please commit to pray at the sidewalk for an hour on these days?
On the weekend, while we aren’t encountering women on their way into the abortion site, we do have the opportunity to have an impact on those who are driving by on Airway or those who walk past. Please come to the sidewalk and assist us in covering the sidewalk with prayer, 7 days per week for 40 Days, as we Pray to End Abortion.
Please register the hours when you can come pray at the sidewalk by going to our on-line calendar at: www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe. The names of those who sign up on the calendar are hidden from all but a small and select group of volunteers who can assist others in registering their hours on the calendar, so you needn’t fear that you might be harassed by anyone opposed to our prayers, nor do you need to fear that posting your hours is a form of boasting that you are being pious in your prayers. Signing up simply allows us to coordinate our efforts so we can determine where we have holes in our volunteers efforts, allowing us to best use our time while ensuring we maintain a constant prayer covering at the sidewalk.
You are welcome to sign-up or simply show-up to pray at the sidewalk at any time of the day or night when you are available to join us. Your prayers have value well beyond anything we can see and we welcome whatever contribution you can make to the effort as we Pray to End Abortion. If you haven’t already done so, please sign a Statement of Peace, by going to www.40DaysforLife.com/RenoTahoe/StatementofPeace.
40 Days through Scripture
- Day 35 - Hebrews 11 – James 5 (including: Hebrews 12:1-13)
- Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood. You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.” Endure your trials as “discipline”; God treats you as sons. For what “son” is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, are you not sons but bastards. Besides this, we have had our earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not [then] submit all the more to the Father of spirits and live? They disciplined us for a short time as seemed right to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we may share his holiness. At the time, all discipline seems cause not for join but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees. Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed.
Join us as we read the New Testament over the course of the 40 Day campaign.

SCOTUS Passes On Mass. Abortion Clinic Case
[ FOXNews.com, Washington DC] – by: Lee Ross - A Massachusetts law mandating a 35 foot "no speech zone" around abortion clinics will not be given further review by the Supreme Court the justices announced Monday.
The law was upheld by a lower court last year. Opponents contend the law improperly carves out an exception to First Amendment protections. "The statute makes it a crime to stand on the public sidewalk and display signs, distribute leaflets, pray in silence, or converse with willing listeners, even when there are no incoming patients in or near the zone," lawyers for five Massachusetts residents wrote to the high court asking the justices to take the case.
Anyone who violates the 2007 law is subject to a small fine and up to three months in jail but the law's opponents law contend there was no need for the Massachusetts legislature to act. They say there is no record of anyone in Massachusetts who was prosecuted under a previous state law imposing a six foot perimeter. These opponents also object to the language of the statute that makes it specific to abortion clinics rather than all health facilities and the exemptions given to people who have business in the clinics.
In asking the justices to keep out of the case and effectively uphold the law, Massachusetts officials argued the new legislation is necessary to protect public safety and to ensure people have access to abortion clinics. To Continue Reading …
