Signs Again Questioned

Even after confirming with the city Code Enforcement office and reviewing the applicable code to confirm that we may in fact have signs resting on the ground (although not affixed to the ground), one of the department’s officers came to the sidewalk today and asked one of our volunteers to remove her signs, both from the ground and from her car.   We will be following up again with this matter in the morning and hope to have this resolved before we go into the weekend.

Immaculate Conception Church Adopts the Sidewalk

Today there were members of the Immaculate Conception Parish, along with volunteers from Valley View Christian Fellowship, St. Alberts, and traveling from as far as Loyalton.   The day was covered with 4 and more prayer volunteers at a time standing in defense of the innocent children being brought to their deaths.   Won’t you join us as we Pray to End Abortion?

Volunteers Needed Fri 7-8am, 5:30-7pm, Sat 7-9am, 12-7pm & Sun all day

On Friday, St. Alberts Parish has adopted the sidewalk.   Do you have a hour that you can give to pray on this typically busy day at the abortion site?

On Saturday and Sunday, we had a volunteer willing to cover the mornings who, due to car troubles, has had to back out of praying at the sidewalk this weekend.   Can you help fill the gap?   This is an especially good time for first time prayer volunteers, as the abortion site is not open on the weekends.   This means you will not need to worry about interacting with the abortion site staff, nor will you find yourself in a quandary as to how to approach women entering the property.   Please, sign up on the Vigil Calendar and help us cover the sidewalk while our volunteer’s car is under repair.

In the meantime, you are welcome to sign-up or simply show-up to pray at the sidewalk at any time of the day or night when you are available to join us.   Your prayers have value well beyond anything we can see and we welcome whatever contribution you can make to the effort as we Pray to End Abortion.

40 Days through Scripture

Day 10: Luke 5-9 (including: Luke 5:33-35)
And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink.”   Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?   But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from the, then they will fast in those days.”

We are living in the days when the bridegroom has been taken away, and where is His absence more apparent that at the sidewalk.   Please consider fasting from something in your life that does not give glory and honor to God for the remainder of these 40 Days, for the intention of the innocent lives being lost on a daily basis at the abortion site, and for the mothers contemplating abortion and the doctor and his staff that they all might appreciate the wrongness of abortion and make another choice for their lives.

Baby Claire Hits the Jackpot!

[National Catholic Register] UPDATE, Feb. 24, 2010 Today’s biggest winners in Las Vegas surprised everybody and are causing quite a bit of excitement. 

“Baby Claire arrived a little early — just a little while ago!” a thrilled Pam Caylor, executive director of First Choice Pregnancy Services, said today. “She and her mommy are doing great!” Claire’s mom, Jamie Stout, had originally planned a late-term abortion but was urged by Caylor and ultrasonographer Marina Cortopassi to reverse Step 1 of the three-step abortion process and carry her daughter to term. “Marina kept trying to get through to me,” Stout said. “She wouldn’t let up. ‘We can work this out,’ she said. ‘You’re going to show your daughter what a strong woman you are.’”

Everybody was a little surprised when Stout went into early labor yesterday evening. When Claire was taking a little time to move during the night, the decision was made to go with a C-section around 8 a.m. this morning. That’s when Claire entered the world in fine shape. She weighed in at 5 pounds 2 ounces, and measured 18.5 inches long. Her Apgar (Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Respiration) assessment for newborns score was a 8-9 out of a possible 10. “It’s all good,” reported a very happy Caylor. “Jamie and baby Claire are going home in two days. It’s amazing.”

Both inspiring mom and baby certainly prove choosing life is the answer. And Caylor and Cortopassi show what never giving up can accomplish. Caylor added, “Thanks for all your prayers.”

Not many people in Las Vegas beat the odds. Last November, one yet-to-be-born baby with the highest odds stacked against her did, thanks to a couple of never-give-up pro-life people and her courageous mom. The dramatic intervention to rescue this baby is only part of the story. The far-reaching lesson the story tells is one that many pro-life workers and even doctors aren’t aware of or are reluctant to admit: Some abortions already under way can be reversed to save the baby.

“The execution had been ordered and started.” So remembers Pam Caylor, executive director of First Choice Pregnancy Services in Las Vegas, about this major rescue of a 20-week-old unborn baby.

Earlier, Caylor had learned from First Choice’s ultrasonographer Marina Cortopassi that neighbor Jamie Stout was considering abortion. Caylor had Cortopassi contact the woman. She was on her way for the abortion. Despite that, Cortopassi drove to the facility, only to find the woman’s father waiting in the car for his daughter inside. They talked. He agreed to save the baby’s life.

Inside, workers had already started the abortion. Because the pregnancy was at 20 weeks, the abortion was a three-day process. Step 1, explained Caylor, was to insert “the laminaria — seaweed dilators placed in the cervix to create a hole big enough for a dead baby to be removed.”

Once outside the facility, “Marina kept trying to get through to me,” recalled Stout. “She wouldn’t let up. ‘We can work this out,’ she said. ‘You’re going to show your daughter what a strong woman you are.”   To Continue Reading

How do you answer when a pro-abortion advocate challenges your pro-life views?   Do you know the most frequently raised arguments used in an attempt to justify abortion?   Life Dynamics has a brochure called “Pro-Life Answers to Pro-Choice Questions” which provides answers to the following questions:

  1. The issue is who decides, the woman or the state. It’s about freedom of choice.
  2. The government has no right to interfere in people’s personal choices.
  3. The government has no right to come into our bedrooms.
  4. No one has the right to tell a woman she has to have a child.
  5. The government should not be involved in the practice of medicine.
  6. The government has an obligation to fund abortions for poor women.
  7. Government should stay out of abortion. Don’t subsidize it and don’t prohibit it.
  8. I’d rather pay $300 for a welfare mom’s abortion than thousands to raise her kid.
  9. I am against abortion but I look at all the issues. Besides, most political offices have nothing to do with abortion.
  10. We should not have litmus tests for politicians and judges.
  11. Abortion is about empowering women.
  12. It’s the woman’s body. It’s her decision.
  13. Abortion is a women’s issue. Men have no right to even be involved.
  14. What others believe about abortion is irrelevant. All that matters is what the woman believes.
  15. The issue is whether we trust women to be their own moral agents.
  16. If abortion is illegal, how will women who miscarry convince the authorities that they didn't actually illegal abortions?
  17. What gives you the right to tell a woman she can’t terminate her pregnancy?
  18. Women must be free to control their reproductive lives.
  19. The Supreme Court settled this once and for all. They said that women have a constitutional right to abortion.
  20. Why should a fetus have more rights than the woman?
  21. I am not for abortion on demand. I support the compromise in Roe v. Wade.
  22. How can a fetus have constitutional rights before it is viable?
  23. How can tissue only a quarter of an inch in diameter have constitutional rights?
  24. The Constitution says that people have to be “born or naturalized in the United States” to have rights. A fetus is not born.
  25. By English Common Law, abortion was legal when our Constitution was written.
  26. There is no consensus for outlawing abortion. Most Americans are pro-choice.
  27. I am pro-life, but I think abortion should be allowed in certain situations.
  28. Why should abortion be illegal if the pregnancy threatens the woman’s life?
  29. How can you tell a woman whose fetus is handicapped that she has to have it?
  30. Why should a woman who was the victim of rape or incest have to bear a child?
  31. If abortion is illegal, what should the penalty be for a woman who has one?
  32. No woman ever wanted an abortion. They only do it when they have good reasons.
  33. Outlawing abortion will impose an unequal burden on poor women. Wealthy women will just go to other countries.
  34. This is the toughest decision a woman will ever make. No one has a right to interfere.
  35. Why shouldn’t a woman whose baby is going to die anyway have an abortion?
  36. I don’t like surgical abortions, but there’s nothing wrong with the abortion pill.
  37. What about a woman who can’t afford another child or isn’t ready to be a mom?
  38. How can you deny women health care?
  39. If abortion is outlawed women will again be killed in back-alley abortions.
  40. Late-term abortions are not done unless the woman’s life is in danger or the baby is already dead or couldn’t survive.
  41. What about a 14-year-old girl who finds herself pregnant?
  42. The answer to abortion is not in making it against the law but in changing hearts. You cannot legislate morality.
  43. You have no right to tell others what to believe. You people are just anti-choice extremists.
  44. I am personally opposed to abortion, but I can’t inflict my beliefs on others.
  45. Someone can be opposed to abortion but still be pro-choice.
  46. This is a religious issue and you have no right to force your beliefs on other people. Keep your Rosaries off my ovaries!
  47. Is it possible for someone to be pro-choice and a Christian?
  48. The Bible does not condemn abortion and Jesus never spoke out against it.
  49. I know abortion is wrong, but I don’t feel the Lord leading me to take a stand on it.
  50. God gave us free will and it is not our place to judge women who have abortions.
  51. Abortion is just one of many issues the church has to be concerned about.
  52. I believe that abortion is wrong, but the solution is prayer.
  53. My job is to save souls, not bodies. Besides, those babies go to heaven anyway.
  54. If a woman isn’t ready for a baby, maybe it’s best that she abort and ask God to bring the child back at a better time.
  55. When a woman miscarries, did God do an abortion on her?
  56. Theologians can’t agree when a soul enters the body.
  57. The fetus is only a potential human life.
  58. No one can prove when life begins. It is up to the woman to decide.
  59. If a baby is not a white, healthy, newborn it stands little chance of being adopted.
  60. There are more abortions than people waiting to adopt. What do we do after these people have gotten a baby?
  61. What about the children who get adopted by people who abuse or neglect them?
  62. What about a woman who says she could not carry a child for nine months and then give it up for adoption?
  63. Why don’t you help people who are already here, like the homeless?
  64. We have a nation of babies having babies.
  65. Millions of children are already starving.
  66. What about overpopulation?
  67. I don’t want to pay for all the social problems created by unwanted children.
  68. To end child abuse, we need to make sure that every child is a wanted child.
  69. Some children are forced to lead terrible lives. Isn’t abortion better than that?
  70. Contraception is the answer to abortion.
  71. Why do the same people who oppose abortion always fight against sex education and birth control?
  72. Why should a woman who is acting responsibly be forced into motherhood just because her birth control failed?
  73. Abortion is safer than childbirth.
  74. Abortion is not used as birth control.
  75. Let’s set aside our differences and look for common ground. We should look for ways to end the need for abortion.
  76. How can people call themselves pro-life and support every war that comes along?
  77. Pro-lifers talk about the sanctity of human life but most support the death penalty.
  78. Why do you oppose fetal tissue research and embryonic stem cell research when so many lives could be saved?
  79. When a pro-lifer’s daughter gets pregnant, they quickly become pro-choice converts.
  80. How can you call yourselves pro-life when your movement is so violent?
  81. How can conservatives justify the government taking away a citizen’s rights?
  82. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare.
  83. The fact that the Ku Klux Klan is pro-life shows just what kind of bigots oppose legal abortion.
  84. What’s the big deal? Abortion is just a simple five-minute procedure.
  85. Outlawing abortion will not end it. Women will always have abortions.
  86. Don’t like abortion? Don’t have one.
  87. Those graphic abortion pictures are not real. They’re stillbirths and miscarriages.
  88. Doctors don’t do abortions for the money. Abortions are about $300 but a doctor can make thousands for a delivery.
  89. Our abortion clinic routinely gets letters from women telling us how grateful they are for the service we provided them.
  90. I’ve known several women who had abortions and they didn’t regret it at all.
  91. Have you pro-lifers ever thought about the possibility that you may be wrong?
  92. I’m pro-choice but I’m uncomfortable with the idea of women having multiple abortions.
