A Story from the Reno Sidewalk: “The sidewalk” needs you…

I can speak from experience, an experience I’m not proud of, but will tell you anyway, in hopes that it will touch hearts… maybe even get a few more people to take a stand for those who can’t speak for themselves.

At the age of 21, I’ve been pregnant five times, but have only two living children. Why? Because I had an abortion. This was not my decision, but that of others, but one that I will live with forever. On July 23, 2007, at the age of 17, my mom drove me to a place of no hope and where many die. That day, I paid someone to end my child’s life. This was the last day of my son’s short life, at the age of 12 weeks gestation.

I met someone new, and became pregnant again. This time, things were different. When my boyfriend drove me to the same place, a single, sad looking man at the sidewalk held a sign with the word GOD. This man, this wonderful man, saved my daughter’s life. And I will thank him forever, until I die, for sparing her life. Had he not been there, I don’t know where I would be, but I can say I would probably not know Jesus. Actually, I would probably still be Athiest, and depressed.

I now have two beautiful children, my boyfriend then is now my husband who loves our children and me, and we are Catholic. All because of one man that stood at “the sidewalk”. My story is rare, and it shouldn’t be. As Christians, we have a duty to God, to save babies and help their mothers. It’s not enough to pray about it, actions speak louder than words. Pray on it, and consider taking a stand.

About 40 Days for Life

40 Days for Life is a Local, National and now International Prayer Campaign

In the Fall of 2007, Reno participated as one of 89 cities in the first ever National 40 Days for Life campaign. Since that time, we have held 8 campaigns and are now heading into our 9th campaign, which will run from February 22 – April 1, 2012. While this effort has strong support among Catholic’s, it is non-denominational, to which all Christians are called to participate. The message of the love of Our Lord Jesus Christ for every scared mother and the child she carries can be seen in the peaceful prayer of our sidewalk volunteers.

We also pray for the conversion of Dr. Damon Stutes, the abortionist in front of whose abortion clinic we have been praying since that first campaign in Reno. This year, Planned Parenthood has opened a new facility in Carson City, directly across from Pioneer High School, where young pregnant teens go to school. A coincidence? I doubt it. Therefore, we have decided that in addition to our Reno campaign to move the Carson City Spring Campaign to the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood where the lies of a “quick solution in the form of a pill or procedure” is sold to unsuspecting girls and women. While they don’t perform surgical abortions at this site, they do provide for chemical abortions and they refer women to locations that will provide the later surgical abortions.

Nationwide, 40 Days for Life has happily seen 20 abortion sites forever close their doors after a campaign has been prayed on their sidewalk. 422 cities have participated and 5045 lives have been spared, that we know about. And we know that many couples never tell us that they have changed their minds, so the number could be significantly higher.

No member of 40 Days for Life has committed a violent act against anyone involved in abortion. As a matter of fact, our campaign is committed to finding a peaceful, prayerful, lawful end to abortion, and we ask that all who participate sign a Statement of Peace committing them to this policy while volunteering with us

Coming Events

Kick-Off Rally – Saturday February 18, 11 am – noon

Our Kick-Off Rally will be held in Reno, on the sidewalk in front of the West End Abortion Site, at 5915 Tyrone Rd. Please come and join us as we Kick-Off the Spring 2012 Reno Tahoe and Carson City campaigns.
