National Campaign Daily Intention

May the mystery of the Incarnation increase our zeal for defending life.
Heavenly Father, you have made the womb of each woman a very special place.
Help us to hold fast to the sanctity of this first home of humanity, remembering the wonderful mystery, that God inhabited the womb of a young woman and came forth as the savior and deliverer of the world.
We ask this in the Name of the one who came forth, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Cincinnati Archbishop Joins in Prayer at 40 Days for Life Vigil
DAYTON, Ohio, March 5, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr, who will replace Cincinnati's Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk upon his retirement later this year, joined with 40 Days for Life vigil keepers in front of the Dayton Women's Health Center abortion clinic yesterday to pray the Rosary.

"God's greatest gift is life and what God gives, only God has the right to take away," the Archbishop said to about 200 people gathered at the abortion facility at 1401 E. Stroop Road. "We have to be concerned with all life, especially the most vulnerable among us. We're praying for the conversion of hearts today."

Among the 200 present at the 40 Days for Life vigil were 50 grade six to eight students from nearby Royalmont Academy. Commenting on Archbishop Schnurr's attendance, principal Tony Ferraro told the Dayton Daily News, "It's tremendous. He's the head of the flock. It certainly affirms (the church leadership's) commitment."

40 Days through Scripture

Day 16: John 10 – 14
Now a man was ill, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. Mary was the one who anointed the Lord with perfumed oil and dried his feet with her hair; it was her brother Lazarus who was ill. So the sisters sent word to him, saying, “Master, the one you love is ill.” When Jesus heard this he said, “This illness is not to end in death, but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
-- John 11:1-4

What glory could God be intending to come from all the abortions that have occurred since 1973? We know that through Christ all things are possible, even bringing abortion to an end. We also know, that in some mysterious way, God always brings a greater good from whatever evil occurs. Let’s allow this tragedy to bring out the best in the Body of Christ, as we come together to Pray to End Abortion, as one body, across all that separates us otherwise.

Orange County Supervisors Terminate Planned Parenthood Funding
[LifeSiteNews.com] - All five members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to cancel a health education contract with the local Planned Parenthood, cutting about $300,000 from the group.

Each supervisor cited an objection to abortion as the motive behind the vote. Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading provider of abortions.

"Not to generalize, but when you contact a law firm that specializes in bankruptcies, they most likely will advise you to file for bankruptcy," Supervisor John Moorlach wrote in an email to constituents.

"If you go to Planned Parenthood, they are most likely to recommend their specialized surgical solution, which they provide and are compensated for, which appears to be a conflict of interest." Read more...

Senate-Backed Stimulus Bill Contains Birth Control Bailout for Planned Parenthood
[LifeNews.com] -- The so-called economic stimulus bill the Senate approved on Tuesday contains a bailout package for Planned Parenthood that will give the abortion giant the ability to make hundreds of millions of dollars selling birth control at an inflated rate. Read more...

A Gift Obama Refused
Behind the Cell Curve - Why Is the President Ignoring a Scientific Gift?
[Washington Post] As he lifted the ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research Monday, President Obama proclaimed that scientific decisions now will be made "on facts, not ideology."

This sounds good, but what if there were other non-ideological facts that Obama seems to be ignoring? One fact is that since Obama began running for president, researchers have made some rather amazing strides in alternative stem cell research. Science and ethics finally fell in love, in other words, and Obama seems to have fallen asleep during the kiss. Either that, or he decided that keeping an old political promise was more important than acknowledging new developments. In the process, he missed an opportunity to prove that he is pro-science but also sensitive to the concerns of taxpayers who don't want to pay for research that requires embryo destruction.

Unfortunately, the stem cell debate has been characterized as a conflict between science (as though science is always right) and religious "kooks" (as though religious folk are never right).
Moreover, as Obama said, the majority of Americans have reached a consensus that we should pursue this research. Polling confirms as much, but most Americans, including most journalists and politicians, aren't fluent in stem cell research. It's complicated. If people "know" anything, it is that embryonic stem cells can cure diseases and that all stem cells come from fertility clinic embryos that will be discarded anyway. Neither belief is entirely true.

In fact, every single one of the successes in treating patients with stem cells thus far -- for spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis, for example -- have involved adult or umbilical cord blood stem cells, not embryonic stem cells. And though federal dollars still won't directly fund embryo destruction, federally funded researchers can obtain embryos privately created only for experimentation. Thus, taxpayers now are incentivizing a market for embryo creation and destruction. Read more

President Obama Also Kills Bush Executive Order for Adult Stem Cell Research
Washington, DC [LifeNews.com] -- President Barack Obama did more on Monday than just force taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research that requires the destruction of human life. He also rescinded an executive order President Bush put into place funding adult stem cells and new research with iPS cells.

Obama also rescinded Executive Order 13435 of June 20, 2007.

President Bush put that order in place in June 2007 when he vetoed a Congressional measure that would have required embryonic stem cell research funding.

Instead of signing the bill, President Bush issued an executive order to press for more research into ways of obtaining embryonic stem cells without harming human life. The order was intended to ultimately fund research into alternatives" to destructive embryonic stem cell research such as altered nuclear transfer (ANT), "regression" (reverting differentiated cells into stem cells), and other methods.

Bush could be said to have been ahead of his time since regression, also known as direct reprogramming, has taken off and the new induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are the talk of the scientific world. Read more...

Stop Pro-Abortion Nominee David Ogden
[Susan B. Anthony List – www.sbalist.org] The Senate is set to vote on President Obama's nomination of David Ogden as the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice this afternoon.

In the past, Mr. Ogden has publicly opposed common sense restrictions on abortion. He doesn't think that parents deserve to know when their daughters head to an abortion clinic. And he has argued against current restrictions that keep your tax dollars out of abortion clinics.
Please call the Senate Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and tell your Senators to vote "No" on David W. Ogden's nomination!

Tell them that Mr. Ogden supports extreme abortion policies that the majority of Americans oppose. Pro-Lifers represent the majority of Americans, not the extremist pro-abortion agenda.
