National Campaign Daily Intention

Pray that we become vessels of hope to all around us, especially to those who minister in the pro-life movement.

This meditation, based on a sermon I once heard, is adapted for pro-life concerns:

It's Friday. Jesus is on the cross. He has been killed by his enemies; he is off the scene.

But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!

It's Friday. Abortionists continue their work 3,300 times a day, tearing off the arms and legs of little babies and crushing their heads.

But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!

It's Friday. Pro-abortion groups receive blood money from billionaires who are as deceived as they are.

But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!

It's Friday. Liars attempt to speak for all women and hide the pain of abortion, and ignore the evidence of how it harms women, and call abortion a blessing.

But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!

It's Friday. People of hardened hearts guard the clinics and usher desperate women in to have their abortions, while keeping them from the pro-life people who want to give them hope.

But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!

Hope does not mean that we ignore or minimize the evils around us. It means, rather, that we see the whole picture, which is that evil is conquered because of what happened one Sunday morning.

We are called to proclaim, celebrate, and serve that victory, waiting in joyful hope for Christ's return and the full flowering of the Culture of Life!

Indeed, Sunday's comin'!

PRAYER WORKS!

Sue in Sterling Heights, Michigan reports that she and a friend were praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil.

"A nervous, shy, young woman approached us," Sue said.

"She wanted to thank us for praying to end abortion and to save babies. She said that our prayers had saved a baby of a friend. She did not want to talk long or in any detail, just right to the point."

Sue said the sight of people praying outside the clinic, "offering peaceful witness to the sanctity of life, saved a precious baby. Being meek is not weak!"

Maureen in Providence, Rhode Island tells a similar story. One day, there was only one person at the vigil

-- a lone college student, who simply stood for an hour and prayed. She watched as a young couple, accompanied by an older woman, walked into the Planned Parenthood center.

A while later, the three walked back out, and the older woman came over to talk. "Just so you know," the woman said, "she's my daughter. She's pregnant -- and she's keeping the baby."

Maureen said, "It sounded as if she changed her mind because she saw someone standing out in front of the clinic praying for an end to abortion."

Mike in Riverside, California tells of another silent witness whose presence saved a life.

"A couple drove up from San Diego, and when they got to Planned Parenthood they saw a woman praying and holding an 'I regret my abortion' sign. They drove around the clinic a few times, and then sat in their car for a while. Finally, they decided to go back home and keep their baby."

Before they left they thanked the woman holding the sign for being there -- and then they were gone.

"Our little army may be small," said Mike, "but we are mighty in the Lord!"

St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral Adopts Saturday and Monday

Thanks to the many faithful prayer volunteers covering these days of our vigil!

Monday evening we had the opportunity to continue to develop our positive relationship with the police as one of Reno’s finest visited the vigil and questioned Pam and Joe Ball regarding what they were doing. Carol Marie was called and had the opportunity to speak with Desk Sgt. Jones to explain the nature of our prayer vigil. Once he saw that we are indeed peaceful, prayerful and lawful in all our activities the officer continued on his way.

As a reminder – we do not need a permit for our First Amendment expression of Free Speech. In fact, the city of Reno does NOT issue permits for this purpose as they do not want to be accused of permitting some speech but disallowing other. We may not block the driveway or impede pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk. As long as we conduct ourselves peacefully, prayerfully and lawfully any visit by the police should be a simple courtesy call.

If the police come calling while you are there and require more information than you are ready to provide please call Carol Marie at 530-412-1573.

Volunteers needed!

Volunteers are also needed to make phone calls to past participants to ask them to give an hour at the abortion site again. Please contact Carol Marie at 530-412-1573 or send an email to: renotahoe@40DaysforLife.com

40 Days through Scripture

Day 20: Acts 16 – 20

Then some itinerant Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits, saying “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” When the seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish high priest, tried to do this, the evil spirit said to them in reply, “Jesus I recognized, Paul I know, but who are you?” The person with the evil spirit then sprang at them and subdued them all. He so overpowered them that they fled naked and wounded from that house. When this became known to all Jews and Greeks who lived in Ephesus, fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in great esteem. Many of those who had become believers came forward and openly acknowledged their former practices. Moreover, a large number of those who had practiced magic collected their books and burned them in public. They calculated their value and found it to be fifty thousand silver pieces. Thus did the word of the Lord continue to spread with influence and power.

-- Acts 19:13-20

If our prayers are to have any effect, if we hope to bring the saving power of Jesus Christ to bear on the sidewalk, we must come as his followers, taking care to not call His name as empty words, devoid of the meaning that comes from being in close relationship with Our Lord. Please use this time to strengthen your relationship with Christ through prayer, scripture and giving sacrifices of fasting and almsgiving as we continue through 40 Days for Life. You can also sacrifice your time by coming to pray at the sidewalk, where your Love for Christ can be the witness that will encourage others to also come to know Our Lord and change their lives by leaving their lives of evil behind as they accept the forgiveness available to those who repent.

We need to remember that God, just as he extended salvation from the Jews to the Gentiles, seeks to use us to proclaim His Kingdom to the unbelievers, so that they too can come to receive the forgiveness of their sins, through the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.

Cardinal George Urges Catholics to Tell Administration: Keep Conscience Protections for Health Care Workers

WASHINGTON [ www.usccb.org ] —Cardinal Francis George is urging Catholics in the United States to tell the Obama Administration to retain Health and Human Services regulations governing conscience protections for health care workers.

This is vital to keep the government from “moving our country from democracy to despotism,” said Cardinal George, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He delivered the message via video available on the Web at http://www.usccb.org/conscienceprotection and on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NoCRwMqVzQ

Send a RED Envelope

Red Envelope Day - March 31, 2009

  • Get a red envelope. You can buy them at Kinkos, or at party supply stores.
  • On the front, address it to:
    President Barack Obama
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
    Washington , D.C.
    20500
  • On the back, write the following message.
This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion.
It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world.
    Responsibility Begins at Conception.
  • Mail the envelopes out March 31st, 2009.
  • Don't forget to put your name and address on it or they will just pitch them out!

Encourage others to participate. It would be wonderful if we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died [only in the U.S.] before having a chance to live…

It may seem that those who believe abortion is wrong are in a minority. It may seem like we have no voice and it's shameful to even bring it up. Let us show our President and the world that the voices of those of us who do not believe abortion is acceptable are not silent and must be heard.

Sign-up for Your Hours on the Vigil Calendar

Please, visit the calendar, register and sign-up to join us at the sidewalk. Our Vigil Calendars are located at: www.vigilcalendar.com/renotahoe and www.vigilcalendar.com/carsoncity for Reno and Carson City respectively.

Sign up even if you’re not 100% sure that you can make that particular time.

Noise pollution continues. Bring an iPod (or similar device) or earplugs so that you may concentrate on prayer without the distraction of the foul filth Dr. Stutes continues to spew from his speakers.

Pray whether you are signed up or not. It is most important to pray.
