National Campaign Daily Intention

Pray that God will bless us with His gift of strength as we respond in obedience to His call.

Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.
If you say, "surely we did not know this," does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it?

And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?
-- Proverbs 24:11-12

In this age of technologically advanced communication, ignorance of human rights abuses is no excuse.

We know there are persecuted Christians in China, there is genocide in Darfur, and there are babies aborted and women and families devastated right in our own communities.

"But I can't save them all," you say.

God isn't asking you to. He has equipped each of us with time, talent, and treasure to do what we can when He provides the opportunity.

He has given us His Holy Spirit to empower us as we abide in Him. He is asking us to be on His side in speaking out and protecting those who can't protect themselves.

When we are obedient to His calling to get in on the work He is doing, we will experience intimacy with Him in a whole new way.

Our faith will increase as we see God at work! You have responded to His call during this 40 Days for Life campaign.

Let your efforts be for His pleasure and His purposes.

Pray without ceasing!

International Campaigns
Here is a portion of today’s update from 40 Days for Life National Campaign, as sent by Shawn Carney:

When 40 Days for Life first expanded beyond the borders of the United States, I was eager to hear from participants in other nations.

Abortion does not recognize national borders, but it seems that neither does Christ's call to love and reach those who need it so desperately.

In Ottawa, the 40 Days for Life campaign's blog refers to the Morgentaler Clinic as "ground zero."

Dr. Henry Morgentaler is Canada's most infamous abortionist, and his clinic is not far from Parliament in the nation's capital.

Giovanni says he arrived outside the clinic just before 5 am and began to pray. It wasn't long before an angry young man shouted at him, "I'm sorry your mother didn't get an abortion!" He then screamed, "What you are doing here is crazy!"

"I kept on praying and ignoring him," Giovanni said.

As the man walked away, he shouted one final threat: "If you are still here when I get back I'm coming after you!" The guy never came back.

"I did feel somewhat intimidated by all the insults and angry words hurled at me," Giovanni said. "However, at the same time, I did feel honoured to suffer a little, for love of my unborn brothers and sisters, who silently suffer much worse than this."

Remember that persecution is not suggested by Jesus; it is promised. Great job Giovanni! …

Post-Abortive Woman Counsels Friend of Mom at Sidewalk in Reno
I received the following from Theresa, one of our Reno Vigil Volunteers. She had the opportunity to talk with the friend of one of the mom’s who entered the Reno abortion site.
I just wanted to let you know about an experience I had out at the abortion site this afternoon. Rachel and I were there at 1:00 and sometime after that a girl in her 20's pulled out of the driveway alone in her truck. I held up my "please please ask me why I regret my abortions" sign. She read it and drove off. Within a few minutes she returned and pulled back into the parking read my sign again. I'm not sure how long she was behind the walls, but sometime later she drove back down the driveway and stopped. Her window was rolled down and she said "OK, why do you regret your abortions?"... I honestly cannot quote to you what I said but I told her of my experiences, and that I know I had killed three of my children. She said that she had dropped off a friend to have an abortion and that it was too late, her friend was already in the back of the clinic. She said that she herself had a one year old and would never do it but that she didn't know what to tell her friend. She didn't seem to realize that her friend might regret this decision. I gave her some information on post abortion and some phone numbers and websites, I told her that there were people including myself that want to love on her friend. I also told her that planned parenthood lied to me and told me that it wasn't a baby that it was just a blob of flesh. She nodded. She looked a little sad, and a little surprised at what I was telling her. She left and came back sometime later to pick up her friend. As they were driving off she smiled weakly at me. It was an emotional day over all... one girl left in tears. I can only pray that my sign validated her emotions and maybe more.
I’d like to encourage everyone to bring with them copies of our local resources when you volunteer at the sidewalk, even if you only intend to pray during your time there. The Lord has a funny way of creating opportunities for us to share, which appears to be happening more and more frequently lately. Get you copy from our website: www.40DaysforLife.com/renotahoe/resources.

Mom’s with Children Volunteer at the Sidewalk
In further response to our request for updates, I received this from Mary, a mother of a large family who brings her home schooled children to the sidewalk to pray on a daily basis.

I wanted to relay a few things about our experiences while praying in front of the abortion clinic.
This morning, like all the mornings we have been out there, Millie, her two girls and my family, have experienced numerous honks, good honks, from people who are driving on the road behind us. This honking seems to be increasing as the days of prayer and vigil have gone by. What is amazing to me is many of them are high profile business vehicles. I want to let those who are apprehensive about coming out to pray to please do so. You may see the cars going in and out, which at times can be very disheartening, but the visual affects we have had, and are having on all the people, those going in and out, those driving by, and those who are working in the building are making a difference! People are noticing us, people are stopping to talk, people are being awakened to the fact that that place is there and what it is and does.
This morning we had a man stop and say, "do you really think that that is good for your kids?"
Meaning, do you think you should have your kids outside of such a place praying for the souls of the people going in and out and for those working in there? I looked at him and smiled and nodded YES. It made him stop didn't. It will probably make him think about it too. One of my kids had made a pretty funny sign, which has gotten people to laugh going in and coming out. He took a picture of my littlest, with his mouth wide open, taped it to a piece of poster board and wrote on there, "Hear me mom and dad...I love you." It may make them laugh, but it will also get them thinking, we pray, about the child within the mother.
So while it is hard to see many cars drive in, it's comforting to know that in some small way we are making a difference. For example, we see the same UPS driver every morning and he gives us a non emotional look, but I guarantee he is wondering, when he starts his route, "Are they going to be out there again today?" And I'm sure he talks about us to other drivers and his wife, he has a wedding band on. Thus our message is being spread.

Keep up the good work all you prayer warriors, seen and unseen, it makes a difference!!

40 Days through Scripture

Day 25 Romans 11 – 1 Corinthians 1

We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves; let each of us please our neighbor for the good, for building up. For Christ did not please himself; but as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you fall upon me.” (Ps 69:10) For whatever was written previously was written for our instruction, that by endurance and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pastor Hoye Remanded to Custody at Sentencing Hearing in Oakland
[Life Legal Defense Foundation] - Today the Rev. Walter Hoye of Berkeley, California, was ordered to serve 30 days in county jail by Judge Stuart Hing of the Alameda Superior Court. Rev. Hoye had been found guilty on January 15, 2009, of unlawfully approaching two persons entering an abortion clinic in Oakland. Judge Hing had also ordered him to stay one hundred yards away from the abortion clinic for three years. However, Rev. Hoye refused this term of probation and would not agree to a stay-away order. Therefore, the judge denied the defense motion to stay the sentence pending appeal. Mr. Hoye was taken into custody from the courtroom.. continue

Oakland Bubble Zone Doesn’t Apply to Reno, Carson or elsewhere in NV
In our concern for all that Pastor Hoye is going through on behalf of all who care for the unborn and their mothers, we have wanted to continue to report on the progress of his case. At the same time, it appears that there have been some who have thought that he was arrested based on a law that can be applied here in Reno or Carson City.

The law that was used to prosecute Pastor Hoye is specific to Oakland CA, and is similar, if not identical, to a law in place in the state of Colorado. One of the concerns regarding the application of the law in Walter’s case is that the Colorado law was challenged in the US Supreme Court and “approaching” as it pertains to this law was very specifically defined. Walter, well aware of the Supreme Court determination of how to constitutionally apply limits on free speech, has been cautious to do his sidewalk counseling within these parameters. The judge, on the other hand, does not appear to be familiar with the decisions of the Supreme Court and has applied a different interpretation of what constitutes approaching the clients of the abortion facility.

But either way, there are no Bubble Zone laws in place at our abortion sites. Therefore, we need to follow the Federal Freedom of Access to Clinics Entrances (FACE) law, which requires that we not obstruct anyone entering or exiting an abortion site. We have always asked that all who volunteer for 40 Days for Life follow the law and not obstruct people either on the sidewalk or driveway. We also ask that you not touch the fence fronting the Reno abortion site, as it is on private property. Following these guidelines should ensure that you fall within the laws while you Pray to End Abortion on the public sidewalk.

Harvard Researcher Says Condoms Do Not Decrease AIDS
[National Review OnLine] We have found no consistent associations between condom use and lower HIV-infection rates, which, 25 years into the pandemic, we should be seeing if this intervention was working.”

So notes Edward C. Green, director of the AIDS Prevention Research Project at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, in response to papal press comments en route to Africa this week. Continue Reading …

No Greater Joy
The Pro Life Action League has put together an excellent video that walks you through what it takes to effectively counsel women who come to an abortion facility. In addition to counseling women, they also advise that there be a prayerful presence at the sidewalk, holding up their efforts in prayer. The sidewalk has been likened to the modern day Calvary, where the innocent lose their lives. Take a minute, see what it looks like to go to the sidewalk and encounter "No Greater Joy"

Be Heard Project Defends Conscience Clause
[American Center for Law & Justice] — You have strong convictions, but President Obama says that doesn't matter. He's ready to rescind the Conscience Clause.

The Conscience Clause was implemented by former President George W. Bush to give physicians and nurses the choice to act according to their conscience - to not participate in abortion procedures if it conflicts with their personal convictions. If President Obama makes this damaging move, if he reverses the Conscience Clause, pro-life doctors and nurses will be forced into performing abortion procedures, despite their individual beliefs. On the back, write the following message.
This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion.
It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world. Responsibility Begins at Conception.

Mail the envelopes out March 31st, 2009.

Don't forget to put your name and address on it or they will just pitch them out!

Encourage others to participate. It would be wonderful if we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died [only in the U.S.] before having a chance to live…

It may seem that those who believe abortion is wrong are in a minority. It may seem like we have no voice and it's shameful to even bring it up. Let us show our President and the world that the voices of those of us who do not believe abortion is acceptable are not silent and must be heard.
